Good you made them fit. The bg looks even better with stars although I wasn't fused, I mean one of my bg's don't have anything in the sky.

Wait, RetroHack closed!? Man, that sucks. I mean, not that those forums were all that busy this year, but it still sucks.

Well, at least their sig generator is working. I'm gonna use it in memoriam of RetroHack.

They look exactly as they were in the first screenshot (with the MGZ background). But I'm not too sure about it; any ideas are welcome! :)

Also 2 small ASM updates: My subi-ring monitor now kills you if you have less than 5 rings. Thanks to MarkeyJester for helping me a lot with it.
And every 50.000 points, you get a extra life. Thanks to Esrael's S1 Japanese disassembly for that (might port more stuff from that disassembly, so watch this space).

    Double post, sorry.

So...SLZ fucked up AGAIN, for the 4th time now. I won't bother reimporting a background, so I just left it with a palette edit. Won't lose my time.

    In other news:
Special stage monitor now requires 50 rings to take you to special stage. If you hit it without 50 rings, you'll get 15 rings, but you won't access the Special Stage in that act, of course.

And...SBZ BG! Yes, it has a new one. I managed to port a good one that uses very few tiles (which means very few BG 8x8 needs to be removed, for weird reasons).

    <div align='center'>[IMG]</div>
    <div align='center'>Yes, I died on purpose.</div>

And no, Act 2 is not fucked, and there are no glitches with cycle palette interfering on the background colors. This could be made by puting a rts on PalCycle_SBZ and removing the 8x8 that used the rotating palettes (which wouldn't be animated, but would show up colors arranged in a strange way).

  9. Yeah, that background is gorgeous. Good stuff!

Ok, remember that options menu? Slight change on it.

The "Spike behaviour s1/s2" thing has been removed. Instead, I've put the option "Game mode".

There are 2 game modes: Medium and Hard

    Medium:

-Ring monitor gives 10 rings. Grey Ring monitor removes 5 rings.
-Special stage monitr needs 25 rings to be used.
    -Sonic runs faster.
-Sonic can do the High Speed dash (the only hability Sonic haves in this hack :V yeah, I removed the spindash).
-Bosses need 7 hits to die (decided to remove this one)
    -Spikes behave like Sonic 2

    Hard:

-Ring monitor gives 5 rings. Grey Ring monitor removes 10 rings.
-Special stage monitor needs 50 rings to be used
-Sonic runs on his normal speed (same as sonic 1)
-Sonic cannot do the High speed dash.
-Bosses need 9 hits to die (seems like a small difference, but it isn't) (decided to remove this one)
    -Spikes Behave like Sonic 1
-Special stage rotates faster than on Sonic 1 (thanks to Icewarrior for idea)
-Power ups lasts shorter than on medium mode (thanks to Icewarrior for idea)
-You need 70 rings on special stage to get a continue (thanks to icewarrior for idea)

I might get some dynamic layouts here... but I don't know if I have such hability...

Please comment and give ideas for both modes!

I'm not sure changing Sonic's speed depending on the difficulty chosen is a good thing. And IMO, I think you should keep the 8 hits to beat bosses in the medium mode (and require 10 hits in hard mode).

    Some ideas I have:
    - Difficulty change the speed at which the special stage turn in round, the higher the difficulty is, the faster the special stage turn in round.
    - Difficulty change the time in which you can stay in water without air (just make it shorter for hard mode)
    - the number of rings required to get continues on special stage is at 70 for hard mode
    - Invincibility given by monitors last shorter in hard mode

Nice ideas! Almost all of them have been implemented.

Anybody who haves more ideas, please feel free to post them

EDIT:And yeah, I decided to remove that different-hitpoints-for-bosses thing. By default, it's now 9.

I'm going to set my views honestly here.

Kudos for the 32X porting, did you use the sonic 1 32X port source provided by drx or did you port it your self? either way I'm actually quite glad someones starting on a 32X hack, however, I would like to point out the fact that, it doesn't work on Gens as it seems to crash at the Sega screen.

Playing on Kega now (no crashing), and making a start the first zone, I noticed the level art wasn't 100% different, the BG looks ok in areas (sky has a nice blend) but the FG doesn't look like it's changed (Appart from the X tile that I'm asuming is SonED 2 related), so I would like to see maybe a bit more of an improvement on the Design side of things. The layout structure is generally ok however could use alot of improvements (what I mean is design wise) the way the chunks sometimes don't look like that go together in areas and somehow look odd, you might wanna consider making either newer chunks to make up for that or maybe relay with more fitting chunks, also certain objects such as walls that are tall that you have to spring over, when you get on the other side, it seems kinda odd to have it that way I guess, but the level is ok in general, not too hard and is fun to play with.

Music now, the PWM's (which they'll have to be now that you have it on 32X =P) sound really nice and very clear and I am quite impressed in that respect, I hear some nice ports appart from the fact that the first act tune seems to fuck up (I.e. the channels seem to de-synchronise), you may want to attend to that, act 2 is stable and sounds almost perfect if it weren't for the slight offsounding part (the retroy PSG sound a like thing) but tis ok and can be ignored, act 3's music, good port and I would've ignored the whole oddness with it (as the megadrive can only use 5 FM with 1 DAC at a time) if it weren't for the fact that you have your hack on the 32X which is more than capable of having it sound perfect lol, again it's just me being pickie, the end of level Michael Jackson (Thriller) tune although it sounds good I don't think it really fits, donno why (Maybe it's just me).

I would like to say however some of your selected music seems to be selected by everyone else, so it's a little too common for say AIZ act 2 music to be in a GHZ act 2 based zone, gets kind of annoying not to put you down or anything (just saying). I notice you have some SCD SFX in their, they sound quite nice and generally well fitting, great work there. the ring SFX on the other hand sounds kinda odd, but that's me being picky again, the checkpoint post SFX I like, sounds similar but unique, the boss music fits generally ok (I can tell obviously by now you like S3D music XD), but there's somethign I "Think" is a bug, the whole playing act 1 music when boss is defeated thing.

the A button performing a ground-dash (YOU MANIC THIEF! LMAO) nah I'm just playing around, nice work on that, simple but effective, I will say that maybe you'd need to fix it up abit though, I mean I got into the habbit of pressing it twice whilst still rolling and appeared to jump, that gets a little annoying. Down ring monitor, nice idea and quite annoying XD. SPEED CAPS (as it was named) are still IN!!? for the love of god please remove lol. The "ring spawn from badniks" thing I think Megamix have kinda trademarked =(, good work at formulating that in though, and the Boss, now I like new bosses and that one was a pain in the arse to defeat, but I would like to point out that I see alot of bosses that become cimilar to that of yours and just a little too similar, either way t'was fun.

Next zone I find a little special in ways, the BG having stars and being at night (Nice touch =D), Again same as first zone, I would like to see some FG work done, it's too similar to the original zones =$, the lava (I'm asuming is still lava) doesn't animate or have a palette cycle to give the effect that it's dangerous, I'd like to see something done about that =P. Layouts like the last zone are odd and strange in areas however the Underground parts are unique-ish if you understand me and are still fun to play on so I wont bother commenting any further there. Purply/pinky lava falls wtf? (I'll say no more) Music: act 1 change please as it feels too much like megamix, act 2 sounds funky, a remix of the original MZ, kinda nice although not really to my taste per se, now I kinda lost all my lives at roundabout that act three times upon replaying it from scratch, and no level select made it harder to get back on track.

also I may be pissing off the SR staff for posting a giant wall of text so I'll stop here, this hack is not one I'm 100% keen on but I do think that with the right direction and production to this hack, it could/may/will be a great hack, so it's not on my really Fav pile but on my Wait and see Pile (the look out for Pile).

All I can say is good luck, and I hope you'll do something about me little er... set of problems stated above lol.

    Wow, great review up there.

    drx's code
That's what you get by using a inaccurate emulator!
    Joking.
I seriously have no idea what the problem would be. Maybe some bad padding? hmmm
I tried everything to fix that X tile. Nothing works.
Hmm...I'll see what I can do. I've been thinking of remaking green hill because the layout is a bit boring (or it could be because I play it every day?).
I must admit, that Angel Island 1 music port is terribly messed on the DAC and a bit on the PSG part. I'll need to change that.
Wow, I completely forgot of fixing the Chaotix ports...*waits to get bricked*
All I did is simply porting sounds from Sonic 3 and editing my rolling sound to sound like the Chaotix one, because I couldn't port it. Not like having sounds like the SCD ones is a bad thing, though. :eng101:
Forgot to fix these stuff when I moved to 32x =x
The lava is like that because I've imported a background, something that always messes up with stuff like the flowers in GHZ, or the lava in MZ.
The falls use the third palette line, which I'm using for the background. Maybe I should remove them from the game (which is a lot easier than fixing them, and I don't really use them much in my layouts).
Yeah, MZ 3 is a very hard zone, mainly because the sub rings monitor placed where it is, if you ask me. While we are here, level select is Up, down, down, left, right.

Thanks a lot for the detailed review, by the way.

    :P

But pretty much most of my thoughts so far would be echoed in Markey's post really.

    EDIT: 100th post D:

Basically what Markeyjester said, I would like to here music other than s3k and s3d. Even I really want to change them in revelations, because so many hacks use them its just plain boring now :(. Its not bad, like to see this improve, and the michael jackson song at the end was awsome.
