I'm curious how this will end up playing, where it can be played, and if it can be played with a controller.
    Guess we'll know soon enough.

I can't see it being yet another Dash-type game when there's four already, with the latest one being only a few months old.

If I had to guess, this is gonna be some kind of greedy, turn-based gacha abomination.

Probably best to not think it's anything so far outside the box. I'm not sure how you could look at that stage screenshot and think "turn-based", gacha mechanics or no (frankly it wouldn't be a break with tradition given how predatory the other mobile games are). It looks to me like the standard runner games, but you can swipe further and run on walls sometimes. And also I guess it's in Null Space?

Looks pretty good. Hopefully it doesn't stay exclusive.

It's not even the first Apple Arcade exclusive Sonic game

that and the appeal of that service is that it contains complete experiences with no microtransaction shit, they are pretty much premium Mobile games, so in that sense, this is good news

i will finally take advantage of my free trial

This is very curious! Looks a LOT more ambitious then I was expecting.
Sucks it is Apple Arcade exclusive but I get it. Interested to see more.

(...Level aesthetics remind me of a more interesting colorful takes on the Cyber Space aesthetics from Frontiers)

This is a lot less "I hate Apple" and much more "please let all Modern Sonic games from now on look this colorful yet not overcrowded also let me play with a reasonably big cast from the get-go and let that cast include Rouge and Cream also why are we first seeing this approach in a spin off"

This has radicalized me into anti-capitalist violence. There is simply no point in allowing the perpetrators to live comfortably.

Apple Exclusive... I'd say "whyyyyyy?", but I know the answer.

I've never owned an Apple device and I'm not gonna start now. Just gotta hope it's exclusivity is limited. I'd actually be pretty excited if it was something I'd actually be able to play without buying into Apple's Walled Garden Ecosystem nonsense...

I was expecting just a more fleshed out Dash or Speed Battle but like nope, this is just... a new 3D Sonic game! That's great! It's great that Hardlight wanted and is allowed to do this! This new direction keeps boding well.

Now if only they can fix the wacky business decisions like Apple exclusivity. I'm damn sure Sega doesn't think that it should only be Apple exclusive. All other Apple Arcade games I can think of have SOME console counterpart, so fingers crossed this is ported.

It seems the exclusivity deal normally lasts for three years and SEGA seems to not have the habit of porting them after the deal expires. Second-hand source here.

    So good luck for us.

  19. For what it's worth, the three year exclusivity is entirely dependent on the deal. I've seen some that are one year, two years. Never heard of a three year, but I don't doubt that it exists.

Also the deals that Apple sign for exclusive games tend to be the kind of deals that entirely finance the development of the game, so this game would likely not exist without that deal.

Anywho, time to pick up an M2 or M3 mac mini, I guess.

Anyway, I don't think there's a general timeframe for Apple Arcade exclusivity. Shantae and the Seven Sirens was an Apple Arcade exclusive initially but was on other platforms within eight months, while Air Twister (Yu Suzuki's latest game) was only Apple Arcade exclusive for a year.

As far as I can tell, Sega-produced Apple Arcade "exclusives" just tend to be simplified versions of existing games (e.g. Sonic Racing was budget TSR, Samba de Amigo: Party-Go-Go was budget Party Central), so this looks like the first wholly original game they're making for the thing. So who knows. Maybe it'll end up on other platforms eventually.
