This is insane, for what it's worth. No single videogame is worth spending 500 dollars on.

I don't know if that's true. Especially since SEGA has likely seen there would definitely be a market for this game if it did leave any exclusivity contracts.

On the other hand, it'd be a little backhanded but I could almost see them taking the bones of this game and making a "new" one that's immediately on other platforms even while this one stays exclusive. Failing that hopefully they put the rest of the stuff elsewhere.

I'd say wait until there's more than a few seconds of chopped up gameplay clips before losing your mind over this one. It will also never not entertain me that there's this small enclave of Blaze the Cat fans wondering why she isn't playable in every single Sonic game released.
There are a lot better things to spend $500 on. Like a carton of eggs, or filling up half of your gas tank.

I would spend $500 on Sonic Spinball #SpinballSweep

I would spend $500 on a prototype of the unreleased Sonic Spinball PC version to just hear the MIDI version version of the options menu music. #SpinballSweep

Not where I want to be.
Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
Other games have been ported from the service, so there's that.

And if the game never gets ported, don't fret. Once it's delisted, you'll lose access to it after two weeks :eng99:

Seeing as how we've got nothing to go on besides the trailer, please expect this thread to be non-stop "oh that looks cool, but Apple" and "that looks cool, also lolol Apple-induced butthurt" for the foreseeable future.

What do you know, if you go to https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sonic-dream-team/id1609094795 you can actually see more screenshots and more importantly substantially more gameplay footage!
    I recorded the new gameplay

The game looks like it's Adventure fan's dream came true (gameplay-wise) with some boosting thrown in the mix. And I'm all for it!
Also the pink ball is clearly gonna be an important part of the game. Still no clue what it does though (Sonic is shown throwing it in the trailer but that's it)

    Game description
Since Shadow wasn't in the trailer, I'm 90% sure he's gonna be an unlockable character. And if we get unlockable characters, I really hope Blaze will get into the game :ohdear:

That looks just as substantiative as the gameplay trailer to me.

Really, man? You can actually see more than 2 seconds of uninterrupted gameplay footage and way more of the level design was shown

Uh, yea, really. I got the gist of the little bit of extra footage from the trailer. It's not that deep.

I do wonder if there'll be unlockable characters though. It's a "mobile" game so I suppose that's a given.

  11. Saw that a few hours when I was looking up the price of Apple Arcade to calculate my future expenses. I assumed it had been shared already since my little brother said he’d seen it and he doesn’t really follow Sonic stuff.

As for the $500, you guys are taking that a bit too seriously. Even if I did spend $10 a year for 2 months for the next 50 years, that’s only effectively $190 in current dollars (using a 4% discount rate on a PV calculation). That is a bit high, but if a game lasts me for 50 years, that’s not that crazy.

The THPS style ramps, seamlessly running up the walls, the open nature of the level design with some levels extending vertically instead of just a giant flat sand box. This goes way beyond "Adventure" gameplay. This is what I wanted Frontiers to be like. The geometry is a little simple and fisher price like, but at least it's a lot more consistent and things like floating platforms and rails actually fit with the whimsy design.

Obligatory long winded section about how Apple is bad, subscriptions are bad, things the choir already knows, yadda yadda.

While it LOOKS good, I still need to actually play it to see if it FEELS good. Very good impression so far though. Hardlight kinda nice.

I'm a bit less optimistic. The halfpipes remind me of MK8 and I feel like I'd get bored of them quickly. Everything else will depend on level design, and I need a lot more than 5 seconds of footage to make a call on if the game is going to be worth remembering to cancel my trial for.

Apple subscriptions aside, it's interesting to think that this'll (sort of) be Cream's first proper 3D outing. Most other recurring characters have gotten to run around the Z axis on their own at least once. I wonder what her moveset'll look like. (Or any of them, really, since Amy's never been too consistent and they seemed determined to give Tails projectiles.) Maybe some day we'll see the Chaotix get their turn. :V

Also, since people are bringing it up... Is this the first 3D Sonic not involving hoverboards to have quarter-pipes that actually get used as quarter-pipes? Because if it is, I'm kinda surprised it took them this long.

Depends on your definition of "used as quarterpipes" I guess? Pretty sure SA2 had some.

I think he means to do trick without a hoverboard. That happened before though in Sonic Rush Special stages but never in a mainline 3D Sonic game.
I kinda see why. The only reason to use them is getting points or score but also the player loses time doing them instead of just running forward. This game however seems to have some kind of focus on points so I guess that's why they're there

Not necessarily tricks, but specifically launching off of them vertically and falling back down onto them skater-style, rather than simply using them as a ramp and steering wherever you please (or as a shape to do a wall-run on). It seems like an obvious type of terrain to mix with Sonic's style of movement. (Though maybe getting that sort of thing right would be asking a little much of Sonic Team...)

I am really interested to see Hardlight's take on an actual Sonic game. I think they actually did a really good job with the Dash games despite their limitations so I think it's fitting that they get their shot at an actual Sonic game for once. And it looks like they've made something really cool.

It's kind of funny that when mac users complain about things being Windows-only, no one cares, but when the reverse is true, everyone gets mad.
Sure, Microsoft has the marketshare for games, but (M*) macs are actually really, really good for productivity applications (audio, video) and are no longer pushovers like they were a few years ago. If anything, I wish they'd go back and port Windows-only games to macOS.
