I know, it's not like there's even a reason to not use it - the only possible reason I can think of is to preserve momentum, and there's a boost button for that.

    Internet.
The double jump, air-boost, and the stomp make a world of difference in making platforming more manageable.

In effect, Sonic 4's all-or-nothing jump mechanic doesn't really even have an advantage. Either you land a full-length jump, or you stop dead. Potential for wonkiness aside, Colors at least lets you fiddle with momentum before having to stop dead, and leaves that last bit as a voluntary option instead of a mandatory aspect of the physics engine.

SIDE NOTE: Typing forum posts with a PS3 controller? It's balls. You guys should try it sometime.

Yeah I used it a lot not to slip from platforms. However I feel a bit pity about being able to boost in air. For some reason I like stomp +boost combo so much.

How differently does this game work (in terms of movement and controls) to Unleashed Wii? Cause Sonic controlled like a brick on ice in that game when on ground, and jumping was simply awful making even the HA feel stiff as a result. Unleashed Wii was ruined by it's bland 3D areas and the terrible movement, and from what I've seen Colours is very much like it. Rather than adjust the jumping behaviour it looks like just they added the double jump, and got around the terrible controls by limiting the amount of 3D gameplay even more. I won't get to play the game until this coming Saturday so this is just what it looks like right now.

Unleashed Wii controlled like shit compared to Unleashed HD, and this controlls a bit better than Unleashed HD.

The game Sterling was describing doesn't seem to bare even the slightest resemblence to the game I've been playing.
His complaints seem to be from another game altogether - they simply do not fit with Sonic Colours. I'm pretty sure this is a joke.

That's not as awesome as what I was hoping, but still, that's a brilliant pic. I'm liking the writing in this game.

Thats pretty neat that they kinda referenced sonic 2006 and implied that they changed the future for the better.

Sonic's traction and general feel is alot more similar to how he was in Unleashed HD. It feels in general, alot more fleshed out. The drift button is also massively improved, being mapped instead to the boost button during specific areas making turning ALOT easier.

This sort of reminds me, only now I realize how much the control system in Colors feels flawless, atleast for the GC controller. Homing attack is severely nerfed and its finally seperated from the boost button making cheap deaths a moot problem. Quick steps feel really natural now that they're only in on-rails segments as well.

I'm really, really loving the game. Its the best Sonic game I've played since S3&K.

Also, I ended up loving The Green Wisp alot more than I expected I would. I mean really, he's fun as hell. Also, dat music.

  14. I heard the game didn't run in Dolphin. Great pic anyway, must remember to use it at some point...

Apparently it does run, but crashes a lot.

The game does run on dolphin but it requires a pretty powerful CPU to get 100% speed.

Basically, go to options > configure > Wii and untick "Use EuRGB60 mode" that makes sure the game gets past the Sega logo every time, the downside is that the screen is much darker than usual.

You can also get it to run with EuRGB60 mode enabled but it takes about 10 to 15 tries to get the game past the Sega logo.

That being said, the game is pretty unstable for now, it tends to go into blackscreens out of nowhere, more so when using certain wisps.

Oh god, what a complete mess (no wonder I didn't get my figure, then) - if mine hasn't arrived next week then I'm gonna give them a call too, to try and find out what the hell is going on; hopefully they'll get sick of everyone phoning them and just send the figures out to shut us up =P

At least the game arrived on time though. And I love it! Played it yesterday evening and completed the story mode in a couple of hours; been working on the red rings today, got around 120 (and one Chaos Emerald) so far. I can't believe how good this game is, to be honest. I love how it's so centred around proper platforming as opposed to "hold boost to win". The Wisps are awesome, the powers they lend to Sonic have been implemented really nicely - I particularly enjoy using the Spikes ability, it's really fun to zip along the walls (and it gives you a spin dash - which I think should have been one of Sonic's core abilities in this game instead of the boost). The story was great - simple and light-hearted, but brilliantly written. I thought the characterisation was spot on, and the new voice actors are amazing. It was nice to see an obvious brotherly relationship between Sonic and Tails, you could tell they really care for one another. The script genuinely made me laugh out loud in parts; in particular, some of the scenes with Robotnik, Orbot and Cubot. I love the Sonic Simulator stages, what an interesting way of obtaining Emeralds! Having some of these stages + - with layouts from Sonic 1's levels   was lovely to see. And classic Badniks - it's about time this happened :D

I seriously hope this game is a sign of things to come, I'd love to see more 3D Sonic games done just like this.

Isn't Jim Sterling the same guy who gave Assassin's Creed 2 a 4.5/10? And didn't AC2 get mostly 9/10s elsewhere? And people take the guy seriously?
