Okay, skipping over the question that "sounding like a four-foot hedgehog" doesn't even make sense... wait, no, I'm not skipping that. What the hell is a four-foot hedgehog even supposed to sound like?
This is just my opinion, but I don't think Drummond was that great either. I think it's safe to say in SA1, the voice acting in the entire game is flat out horrible ("watch out, Tails. You're gonna crash. Ahh.") And not only that, but Drummond was really inconsistent with his voices, he's all deep in Adventure, and then he's all high in SA2, and he's a mix of both in Heroes. (although I think he sounded just fine in Heroes) As for the Roger guy, I don't have a problem with him. Sounds a bit deeper than what I'm used to hearing from Sonic, but it's fine with me.
So far the only voice that's impressing me is Eggman's. Maybe we'll finally get some good banter between him and Sonic, but I'm not holding my breath.
I love that cutscene. Sonic's voise is different, but I was expecting that and I'll get used to it eventually. I love the way it was written, though. Sonic comes up, still excited about trashing a giant robot, and Tails is like "They've got shopping here, too?" If the EU demo for Colours is in Australia too, (I'll find out soon enough, it probably is) I want to get it as soon as possible. The two things I was holding my breath about were the voice acting, and the story. Both seem to be fine. As long as they don't mess it up with a generic monster again, then the game will be perfect, by my standards.
The voices are both very good but I agree with the majority that says Sonic's could be a bit higher. It retained a bouncy feel though, and that's as important. Tails' could be a bit higher as well, lacks the cuteness of the japanese voice that I think fits the character. Oh man the moonwalk... I don't like the fourth wall break, but I hardly like those when they're handled like this so... Thanks AUKK. About the DS demo and from what I've seen, it doesn't feel like Rush that much. I might be wrong. Oh this is the icing for the day.
Oh my God... This music... it's amazing. It's earcandy, I particullary have felt in love with this music. And the sound quality of the DS is so neat that, I don't spot any difference in the first part. I will be looking forward for the Wii version.
I was so surprised at how the DS music ended out, I was expecting random audio samples from the style of Rush and was rather disappointed when I realised there was none. D: But the music itself sounds amazing for the DS version, just a shame a PS3 version isn't coming out, I guess I'll just have to wait until I get my NTSC Wii. :/
I forwarded the video to my 9 and 7 year old male and female cousins and they absolutely loved it and thought I was really funny, so on that side mission accomplished.
Wow. The DS music is surprisingly true to the Wii version's. Also, Tails' voice is awesome. HUGE improvement over Amy Palant. Sonic's voice is okay, but after hearing Griffith for 7 years it just doesn't sound right. Like everyone said, it's too deep, and makes him sound older than he is.
I thought that the moonwalk was more 4th wall breaking than the actual 4th wall breaking part of the scene because: 1) it could be a tribute to MJ 2) it could be an homage to good physics from the past (or trolololing the new physics in Sonic 4) 3) Dealpool does it in MvC3
Somehow I doubt they would have come up with the moonwalk as a joke reference to Sonic 4 so soon, but it's not the first time a company has jokingly trashed its own games before. I remember Viewtiful Joe making a jab at Devil May Cry 2 in a far less subtle way than a moonwalk, for example. Actually, I just think it's the animators/writers having fun with the "Sonic skids by a little further than he meant to" idea.
I think Crash Twinsanity did something similar, when Cortex told his minions that their check bounced because Wrath of Cortex didn't do so well (but then again, that game had a lot of 4th wall breaking moments). But yeah, I think it's the latter idea. You gotta love how Yacker and Sonic are in sync with their reaction with Tails' translating. I think it's one of the few times Tails makes himself not look as smart as he is (I think the first time was in Adventure 2 at the Space Colony Ark, but I could be wrong).
Not quite the same thing. That was a case of the new Crash developer riffing on the one they acquired the rights from in the first place. Wrath of Cortex, Twinsanity, and the new-age Crash games we know and loath today are the products of three different developers. As such, it's practically a step away from No More Heroes taking a jab at Duke Nukem Forever.
Man, I want to play the Colours DS demo but I'm not European. How sad. Any idea if the North Americans get it (and if so, when)?
Pretty cool! Also, the gameplay is not only "right-to-win." I like it. I guess I'll have fun with this.
Yes, the voice acting in Sonic Colors is just as bad as I thought it was going to be! Now to be fair, this is their first game, so I'm guessing they're holding themselves back and staying within the same octave in an attempt not to offend any skeptical listeners with any strong emphasis or changing their pitch. I can hear some new, slightly more subtle inflections made by Higgins than I would hear in Sonic games beforehand with Palant, so that's a plus. I think she's still trying to work her voice and find a unique timbre for Tails though, so at times she sounds like some punk rocker chick who's been smoking for ten years trying to force her pitch up to read a bedtime story. It's throaty and constricted. Roger Craig Smith's voice for Sonic sounds like someone punted Dan Green in the nuts. It's deeper than Griffith's, but the tone of it sounds very nerdy and...tinny, if that helps anyone understand. And you guys want Sonic and Tails' voices to be even higher? Jesus Christ, if Sonic sounded like he was fifteen and Tails like he was 8 or 9, I bet you'd be tearing your hair out at the astoundingly high-pitched and piercing voices. So yes, I'd kind of like the voices to remain bad since it's like a running gag now for Sonic games to have bad voice acting, but the nice side of me says that another two or three games from this one and they'll start hitting their stride. Just like Griffith did in Unleashed. Edit: By the way, I also watched that Sonic Colors DS gameplay video. Looks to be the same old same old, but I haven't seen as much from DS' gameplay as I have from the Wii, none of us have. The wisp powers don't look to be as well implemented into the level design, however.
