The japanese for "to read" and "to hear" are entirely different. Not even the same base radicals in the kanji. I doubt it's a translation error.
Not sure if this has been posted or not but: there is a Nintendo DS demo for the PAL version of the Nintendo Channel. I plan on playing this as soon as I finish this backup of my NAND.

It wouldn't be a translation error, anyway. The writers are American, remember? Unless there's some extra "u" in the word "hear" across the pond, I don't think there would be any issues... EDIT: That tagline just made my day.
Woah, Sonic's voice is pretty deep. Finally dropped his balls =P, but I like it. Tails new voice is 10 times better than the previous actors, hands down. But, I think Rodger Craig acted Sonic's voice best when he said the lines "Keep an eye out for Dr.Eggman now" and "Lets kick up some speed!" at that Alton Towers Park.
Sonic is definitely going to take some getting used to, and this is coming from someone who was one of the first to hear his voice via Alton Towers. =P Tails isn't bad at all, and the scene in general is great. Finally got round to placing my Wii preorder - looks like other UK preorder bonuses aren't happening, and I'm not paying like £27 more just for that blue Sonic Colours controller, neat as it is (Argos has the figurines. Also, I looked up a retailer that was selling the AU order for the price). I completely missed the moonwalk until it was mentioned, though. =P My one issue with the scene actually is the lip sync - I dunno if this was a bodge between the JP and EN speech, but it seems way off - like SA1 standards of way off.
just listened to te scene and thank god! What I like about his Sonic is what Jason got wrong, he isn't mimicing Ryan and he can act. Roger has a character voice, the way he delivers his lines is how Sonic should say the lines. I am happy by this and it makes me want to see the story in it's full.
I was curious about that too. Why the heck is it so far off? The writing was done state-side. Were the cutscenes rendered in Japan and then sent here for the dialogue? Because I agree, lip-synching is miserable.
There's a question which I believe Dreadknux could clarify for us: was this recorded from an actual review copy, or is it from the version he reviewed earlier, with two of the zones locked-out? If it's from the latter, it could be unfinished. If it's from the former, it's most likely final-product stuff.
Like what a few people have said, I think we're in that 'jarring' stage. After having Griffith for about what, seven years? Of course it's gonna take a little getting used to. Give it a couple of games, it'll feel right at home. I still have confidence in Craig, just because of the fact that I know he has the range to tweak it if need be. That said, I like it. It's pretty easy to listen to, and doesn't seem like he's trying too hard. Tails' voice, vast improvement, though that's not very difficult to achieve. I like it too though, pretty fitting. Overall, I think we can expect good things from the new VA crew. I suppose I'll leave it at that, until we see more cutscenes.
Then consider me a fruitcup. My God, is Roger even trying? It sounds like he just read the script. He doesn't sound AT ALL like a 4ft hedgehog. Its nice not to hear that stupid mono-tone that Griff had, but this is just ridiculously stupid. Sega, you had it right the first time.... Idiots.
Okay besides the voice actor stuff, I was surprised that only one person mentioned that the demo for the DS version came out on the Nintendo Channel in Europe. I heard that someone was going to release a rom of the demo soon, but I don't know who said it or where it's going to appear. Someone should (secretly) keep us informed! Also check this out: I so can't wait to get my hands on the .SDAT from this game. Then SSEQ -> MIDI will occur and remixing will commence. :P
I highly doubt it was from a review copy. I have no basis for this assumption, but I think somebody asked Dreadknux for a cutscene vid, and he said that it'd be up to Sega. After a whole lot of pleading with Sega, they allow Dreadknux to record that specific cutscene. tl;dr: I think it's from Dreadknux's copy
I just hear "save them, save them," over and over again. For the grammar nazis that are still upset, that's prolly how it should look on text and how it sounds in voice. A younger part of me hopes that they keep the desync so that I can laugh at it like I did in Sonic Adventure. I had jokes for years with that game, and then more when DX didn't fix it.
Bit late to the party, but I'm really loving the new voices. Kate Higgins is the first Tails video game voice actor that didn't make me want to rip out my ears. very good acting indeed. Roger Craig Smith is quite different than the previous actors, but it's a good change. Especially since this is his first game. He should improve as time goes on. A very good change, I like it a lot.
