Porting it to 360 and PS3 would be perfect if they time it for Sonic's 20th, havent had a fun anniversary game for 10 years lol

That would be a cool idea, but I don't really like the idea of a remake as the 20th anniversary game.

The pattern of anniversary games so far has been bad, good, bad (IMO) so hopefully the next one will follow (and put an end to) this pattern.

That last point never seems to get in the way of other games going non-exclusive some indeterminate length of time after initial release... mainly because by that time, nobody even remembers the goddamn trailers.

Overhauling the visuals would definitely be necessary—and expensive. Which is obviously why the condition would be "if the game sells enough copies to make it worth our time." Were I to hazard a guess, the possible preparation to port the game to HD consoles could very well be a multi-purpose thing; they may simply have made it so that they can more easily port the engine across consoles, so that future titles can be both Wii and HD without having to make two entirely different games, even if Colors itself isn't necessarily going to benefit from that.

A remake for Sonic's anniversary would be a cool idea, but only if it's not the only big thing that hits for his anniversary. It could, for example, make a nice companion-package, something for people to pick up in the months before/after the release of the main attraction.

Since the only next-gen console I have is the Wii, I'm actually kinda glad that Colors is Wii exclusive. The Wii version of Unleashed is just so horrible (in my opinion, don't attack me), and the amount of work they did was overall really lazy (and the amount of content on the Wii version was limited by the PS2's disc storage space, that was also really ridiculous).

My point is, I think Wii owners deserve a decent main-stream Sonic title. Sonic Unleashed on Wii doesn't cut it (again, this is just my opinion).

They'd better make a similar title for 360 and PS3, at least before they start experimenting again... Or have they finally learned? :ssh:

Wii owners should feel lucky. Their "port" of Sonic 2006 was much, much better than the 360/PS3 version.

Secret Rings is a spinoff... I said main-stream. I haven't touched my copy of Secret Rings in years, but it was fun while it lasted (Unleashed wasn't).

    What?

EDIT: Apparently you were referring to SatSR. That game was decent for the era where almost all Wii games were big tech demos.

Secret Rings was still a horribly flawed game, it just looked so much better in comparison to '06 that it seemed better than it was to a lot of people.

Not where I want to be.
Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
I can second this. I was all excited about Secret Rings until recently, when I played it at a local store.

Not that great of a game, really.

The gameplay of Secret Rings was OK, but I just didn't like the very concept of the Storybook series. Dropping Sonic into iconic stories? In my opinion, that concept is just stupid. There's so much potential in Sonic's world alone, why bother making a mockery of Arabian Nights?

To be honest, I've seen videos of Sonic 06 on Youtube and I think it looks interesting. That was probably the last Sonic game mainstream Sonic game with a non-kiddy theme, and if I ever do get to play it, I will respect the fact that it was unfinished, after all, what was so bad about Sonic Adventure 3?

But I'm really glad we have Sonic Colors. Does anyone else agree with me that the Wii version of Unleashed is just pure fail? No Mazuri, no Empire city, no adventure fields. I wonder if it was because of laziness, or the disc space of the PS2. My main point was that Wii-owners should deserve a proper Sonic title. In a way, Sonic Colors is kinda like the PS3/360 version of Unleashed, but on Wii, and they decided to take out the Werehog for the heck of it (which is a good thing).

EDIT: Just so you guys know, I don't have a PS3/360, and that's part of why I was really disappointed with Sonic Unleashed.

The fact that it was "unfinished" deserves no goddamn respect. You don't let problems like that game has get past the engine phase and no deadline excuses how shite certain aspects of the game are. I've played games that got screwed over by deadlines before, and none of them have sucked as hard as '06.

Besides, having a "non-kiddy theme" makes no difference when the execution sucks ass.

I could've enjoyed SatSR / SatBK considerably more if not for the crass book-insertion motif.
(And the chitty controls, but that's another story)

That and the night stages were generally samey despite their long size. The concept had the potential to be good (case in point the Egg Dragoon boss fight which is one of the best in the game) but the fact they relied more on the basic gimmick than melding it with a good variety of level innovations meant it got old quick. Colors at least sounds like it is trying to correct this mistake with the Wisps.

That said I heard that to compensate the night stages in the PS2/Wii versions are slightly more innovative and tolerable. Arguably if you combined the better points of each version you'd have a good game.

True, usually a game that is unfinished can at least shine despite it's unfinished quality (eg. Sonic Adventure 1) it is merely frustration that it could have been a lot better. A lot of Next Gen seemed bad in concept rather than just it not being given the time.

The 'non kiddy' aspect was actually what I hated about it, mainly because the series is renowned for trying to appeal to adult themes in the most forced and pretentious manner possible. That and it is still kiddy and cheesy at heart, just with guns and angst (Shadow and Next Gen still had a corniness and juvenile feel to it because the writers were still at heart with that style and were trying to make something they didn't understand). Colors and Unleashed are more childish but at least implement that style well and in a manner that fits the universe and characters. Unleashed at least felt like a product the staff had a passion for. Colors, which looks very similar in style, will hopefully be the same.

Man, it's great to see such praise for the game. It feels like Sonic's homecoming, doesn't it? If this keeps up, the series will reattain the respect it once held with the gaming public.

So Jun Senoue is the soundtrack lead for this game? I'm moderately surprised that he's gone away from the hard rock stuff, but ecstatic that the Sonic Colors soundtrack is made by him. Jun Senoue has always someone I've put in my top video game composers, and I was scared that he'd lost his touch after uncharacteristically bad Sonic 4's was. My excitement has increased.

Yeah, I'm really glad I haven't sold my Wii. Now I'll actually start using it for something besides GameCube games and Brawl!

Just from seeing the gameplay videos I can already tell I'm going to be putting many hours into this game.
