Dreadknux gives us some more information! http://www.sonicstadium.org/games/sonic-colours/ He says a LOT more coming tomorrow and updated through the day, but he shows us the Marching Band Egg Pawn, as well confirming Catterkiller, Chomper from Sonic 1, and Spiny from Sonic 2 are also returning. Also a quote from Orbot, which he says work better in context but decided to tease. "I think that's the wrong chip... At least he's much more exotic now." Also he sas double checking they did change Orbots voice to something more high-class.
That's a possibility, but it's also possible that you'll simply be swept backward by the current. Note the absence of the "bottomless pit" icon. And it also looks really shallow.
I don't know, I'm guessing that the water between the platforms will simply push you in the direction of the waterfall. With all of the good decisions apparently being made, I'm just having trouble picturing that part being insta-death.
It's amazing to think that Colors can not only be purely nostalgic, but also new and forward-moving. If Sonic 4 comes out after this, it'll have quite an act to follow. Then again, they're different games. One's a Genesis all-2D throwback, and another is a sequel to Unleashed with the Werehog replaced by a series of Wisps and the 2D levels maximized. Also the former's episodic, so hopefully that'll work in its favor. So, yeah. Urge to preorder rising...
The bottomless pit icon doesn't show up WHENEVER there's a bottomless pit. Just when you're going fast, or there's a high risk of falling into it. Honestly I just see it as a cheap way to not just put something to slow you down, but at least it's better than nothing. Edit: And sonic 4 won't have an act to follow because its an entirely different type of game with a different style on the downloadable market. They're nearly different genres.
Regardless of whether or not the water in that shot is instant death, I'm glad to see a 3D section that's purely platforming. Sections like the spinning platforms in Chun-nan were tragically under-utilized in Unleashed's Day Stages, I feel.
With all these classic badniks comming out of retirement, 3 things popped into mind. 1: if Sonic 4 has them too, were these the models used to create their prerendered sprites? 2: doesn't anybody plan on ripping the badnik models out of the game? and 3: Is Ian ready to bring them back from the Casino? (All classic badniks were last seen in Casino Night in the comic)
1: Definitely not. The badniks have a different design in this game than they do in Sonic 4, from what I've noticed. 2: It will happen, most likely. It usually does. 3: I don't think I can answer this question. But seriously, even if there aren't actual 3D areas underwater and it's purely sidescrolling, I will be a happy camper. Edit: Shit, I forgot to mention the whole thing about the pre-rendered sprites. Yeah, they're not pre-rendered sprites, as other people pointed out.
Shit, you beat me to it. Well, at least I can point out the misspelling of "their", "coming", and "popped" instead. I wish it was November... It's slowly creeping up on me, but it's getting harder to wait with all this new shit revealed.
This new level has got to be my favorite by far. I just LOVE the look and the whole idea of it being in a dome. And apparently it's a huge level... I just HOPE there's some big underwater 3D area. That would be so amazing, I can't even describe. I've been wanting to try a 3D water level as sonic for so long, and it would be so cool to try here. Unfortunately, I think SOME water will be there just for running other, and be instant death if drop down. That's the only thing I'm worried about. But the fact that they made a full water level (just for one level too!) really says a lot to me. The new powerup looks like it should just be a switch, but I could see the challenge in getting it to a certain area and pressing it. I'll be honest, this game really looks innovative, and I think that's great. Sonic hasn't had any good innovative gimmicks recently, but these powerups are very creative.
To quote Dreadknux: <!--quoteo(post=202700:date=20 September 2010 - 08:07 AM:name=Dreadknux)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Dreadknux @ 20 September 2010 - 08:07 AM) </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->I don't recall any 3D areas underwater unfortunately (might be wrong - occupying myself with several things here and can't really remember) but most of the stages in that 'Zone' will feature vast 2D underwater areas. They are quite literally huge. Speaking of which, there are several stages that are very impressive in terms of level depth. You try using the Drill move in Tropical Resort Act... 3 (?). You just go down.... and down.... and down... and down...[/QUOTE]
The amount of levels in this sounds really impressive, even if some of them aren't exactly the longest Sonic stages yet. I mean, 7 zones with 5-7 acts each is pretty damn big, this has got to be the longest Sonic game yet in terms of how many legitimate stages there are in the game. I can't wait to hear more tomorrow, I'm absolutely stoked to try this out come November.
On a more serious note, Sonic Colors is officially becoming the first 3D Sonic game I've liked since Sonic Adventure, this game is exceeding what I dreamed a 3D Sonic to be. Don't let me down SEGA. The fact I never played Unleashed makes this even more anticipating. Nice that SEGAs actually pimping out classic badniks for this game, rather than just reusing them. + - Go home Sonic 4 Ep 1, you just got beat by your own associates.
Don't forget, besides the 7 stages with 5-7 acts each and potential final zone, we also have the Sonic Simulator that has 7 more worlds with 3 acts each. Yes, the numbers are impressive. Also I am SO glad they dropped the mission idea for pure stages. Acts is such a much better idea than missions to begin with. We're looking at a MINIMUM of 59 stages. Likely more since that assumes the six other stages have 5 acts each and the final zone (likely the rainbow star) only has one act.
Yeah, it's not like sonic 4 badniks had new moves or anything... ohwaiththeydo. I'm tired of these comparisons between sonic 4 and colors. They're so different. Sonic colors is a full budget game and you're comparing it to a downloadable title. It's a bit ridiculous at times. Edit: And I think the people talking about how many stages there are will ultimately be disappointed when they find out 70% of them are less than 30 seconds.
I know some acts will be 30 seconds, but I also know several previews have brought up over 20 hours of pure gameplay, including Dread most recently who said out of the near final build of the first five stages in the game, there were over 20 hours of pure gameplay.
I won't be disappointed, for one. I prefer a good 3D Sonic game that's short over a longer Sonic game that's complete shit like 06 (and most of what made that long was loading times and cutscenes, plus the incredibly annoying mach speed areas). So even if the game is short, which it apparently isn't, I would not mind at all.
