Incidentally, somebody else also dumped the roms (link in description) but his dumps don't match the Spindash.org ones checksum-wise. Is it an effect of general ram dumping, as in bits of it could change depending on the session?

Would it be alright if I post a big buglist in the Wiki that includes some bugs that only somebody like me would actually notice?

Even if you can't post them there, I'd love it if you posted them here.

True, but it doesn't look as if *all* the A* and F* opcodes were changed back to 6*. So they still don't run on emulators "out of the box". Not that this worries me since I know how to fix it anyway.

And the possibility of injecting other roms into this? "Sonic Retro Collection" =P

If someone feels like cracking the container format on a bad version of JensisDS then sure. But I see no reason why it would be worth doing. when it's worse than the emulator it's based off, and wouldn't be emulating the games music.

Considering how they actually removed the ability to play ingame music and the music and sound effects are now in separate files on the rom, I would doubt you can play injected roms with sound. JenesisDS runs smoother anyways though, so I don't think it matters much.

At least it means none of SEGA's shitty sound emulation. I hate the high pitch that plays when you roll in any of the recent rere(re)releases.

It seems to sound even worse than usual, judging from the Youtube videos I've watched...

Ok, so little bug/odditie list. In random order. more will be added over time.

-Frameskip means that any two-frame animations like water tops or Sonic 2 shields often don't animate

-Launch Base Zone music loops back to start a little bit early

-Sonic's jump in Sonic 2 has a 'pop' sound at the start

-Sonic and Knuckle's boss music is from Sonic 3

-Launch Base Zone's Act 1 to 2 transition looks weird due to stair-step animation being used, to avoid it not working at all

    -Same in Lava Reef Zone

-When Knuckles goes through water pipes in Launch Base Zone Act 2, sometimes he'll appear completely outside the pipes.

-When you get a 1-Up, the track resets after the jingle ends. This same thing happens in the iPod Classic port.

-If you get a 1-Up or a Continue during the score tally, the music will be interrupted, then restarted after the score tally. Works in both end of a level or end of special stage.

-Not really a bug, but did you notice the '© 2009' on the title screen? Makes you wonder how long this was sitting on the floor, waiting to be released.

    -more to be added later.

The restarting (and, with Speed Shoes, speed/pitch-shifted) music is due to the fact that the sound is not emulated (too CPU-intensive), but instead streamed from files on the game card.

I was already unlikely to get this (playing the games on my computer is fine for me, and I get sick of that quickly too, to be honest), but reading about the implementation is just further reason not to.

Well it was announced December 09, odds are it was already done long before and they were just making sure it was spaced out from other DS releases.

Also, that frameskip problem is kind of a stupid problem for Sega to just let by. They really couldn't get a genesis game running full frames? not even a port?

Edit: Oh wait I totally forgot, the DS doesn't have blast processing :P

I think it's a rather good achievement that the DS can emulate the megadrive, personally. least it's not another sonic genesis "remake" :P

I've played Sonic Classic Collection on the DS. It's actually not bad. The emulation isn't perfect, partly due to the screen size, and when you hit a speed-up box, the music goes higher pitched instead of faster (???), but they've done well to avoid limitations of the smaller screen, by having the camera intelligently spring left and right if the player is near a boundary, giving a slight advantage of view, without hindering the gameplay. Not brilliant, but not bad at all. I'll still stick with my iPod versions though.

Hopefully, I'm not the only one to have noticed this... but the controls for S3&K state "use Tails to airlift Sonic out of danger." Um... there's no multiplayer component, and no way for me to use a "second controller..." So how in God's name can I make Tails airlift Sonic out of danger? Did they just put it in the contrlos section and then go "Whoops! We forgot to do that! Haha, oh well!"

    Merg....

To elaborate on my post in #913: Because the music (like all sound) is streamed from file, not generated on-the-fly, the only way to speed it up is to play the file at a higher sampling rate, which also causes a pitch-shift.

    Trapped in my own thoughts.
Two stageplays, a screenplay, and an album
Hydrocity Act 1 boss: you don't actually twist around the thing when the boss does that bubbly swirly thing. You go left and right, with the correct animation, but always in front of it.

I'm not sure if that always happens. There just appears to be some pretty random layering issues. I've made perfectly normal runs of Launch Base sometimes, and other times I'll be in front of everything all the time.
