I just played this on my Lite, and damn is it laggy! I mean really .

Oh, and I've been playing the Sonic series in 1:1 on my DS, and so the scaling's kinda hard on my eyes.

It runs just fine in No$GBA 2.6a, but I have a core 2 duo 2.6GHz.

DS emulation isn't exactly efficient at this point. The processor makes a HUGE difference (especially given it is entirely software-rendered, even in 3D). Even on my machine, a number of games (such as Sonic Rush) don't run quite at fullspeed.

Wait, playing an emulator in an emulator? Why?

Wouldn't it be so cool to use a PC to emulate a DS that is playing a GBA that is emulating a Master System?

DS(I) cannot emulate the GBA without special hardware (Google the iPlayer flashcart) and the DS(I) cannot play a GBA game in DS mode, it must boot into GBA mode where it pretty much is a Gameboy Advance (but play only Advance games). BUT you can have a PC emulate a PSP which can emulate a GBA wich can emulate a Master System. :v:

A virtual machine within a virtual machine, I think you mean :P
And that virtual machine could be within a virtual machine.

OK: So a Macintosh emulating a Windows 7 machine that is in XP Compatability Mode that is emulating using No$GBA that, with the iPlayer, is emulating a GBA that is using PocketSMS to emulate a Sega Master System.

THAT is what I've been thinking would be cool for a while now

Meh, might as well share some more thoughts on this collection

Firstly, the lagg seemingly disappears when you put on headphones. Maybe it's the consistency of the music. I used my dad's Senhizers to listen to these, by the way, along with my Apple earbuds, to give a comparison. I found the music to be THE highest quality WAVs I've listened to so far.

Here's some notes I took on the game

No$GBA can't emulate the iPlayer. It only emulates straight-up DS hardware, not any peripherals of any sort.

I'll have to try that headphone trick. Does it also help with the jittery floor in S3K special stages?

All the games are loaded with things like this. The custom camera in Sonic Classic Collection is quite impressive, unnecessary vertical scaling aside. Sure, it has its oddities, but it's clear that they designed case-by-case exceptions throughout, which itself is a credit I'm surprised more people hadn't noticed.

And maybe it's just me, but I actually like the S3/S3K file select screen BETTER in SCC than in the original, because of the cool scrolling effect that they added (albiet probably to fix a bug that JenesisDS had in this screen).

Well, the S3K Special Stage music is kinda mesmerizing to me, so I notice it less. But Sonic 2's special stages are just terible!

Oh, and I never noticed the extra scrolling effect in file select before! It's cool!

Add'd thing: The ring sound that you get when you press the bottom screen, people say it slows down the game, it doesn't for me, on actual hardware, on a Lite.

Switching b/t Sonic and D-pad icon constantly WILL mess up the BG momentarily.

I can't think of a way in which these could be related, so I assume that "seemingly" means just that, a perception only?

Might be power of suggestion, but I noticed it too after trying it. Lag didn't completely disappear, but it seemed significantly reduced.

  13. You know, it could be the DS Speakers that cause this.

Maybe they are trying to output the sound clearly, and thus are causing the game some lag due to power to the speaker.

Putting on headphones would cancel this out of the equation, thus making the game run smoother, me thinks.

Or I could be making up crap to sound smart, who knows. :P

I love Sonic Classic Collection. It's the best way to play Sonic 3 & Knuckles on the go. The emulation is not perfect but it isn't horrible either, and the scaling is not game breaking. Overall, a nice collection!

Actually, having a hacked psp with picodrive is the best way to play sonic 3 and knuckles on the go. Or a netbook after that. But yeah, the best legitimate way I guess.

wow, the workaround they used for LRZact2's boss looks terrible. Oh, and the lag thing is almost certantly power of suggestion.

The speedup shoes only work for one track. You get invincibilty, speedup music is gone, you remain fast.

Sonic 1, for some reason, is the choppiest game in the entire collection. Now what if Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis was a port of Sonic 2? 0_o.

Has anybody tried changing the WAV's inside the game up to see what would happen? A sound replacement project would be way-past cool.

Were the ROMs ripped from this game posted anywhere?

The ROMs were dumped, but they had a lockout code or something that doesn't allow them to be played elsewhere, I think.

    All the bitches.

I fixed them within 15 minutes. They were simple to fix. If Scarred Sun or Tweaker allows I'll post the patched roms.

Whatever they did, the games still work just fine in JenesisDS as well. Meaning that it's probably more along the lines of abusing an inaccuracy in JenesisDS's emulation.

Yes it is, it's the way JenisisDS reads some opcodes. Instead of A* or F* it's 6*, so they took advantage of it.
