    I'd already read that, but missed the part about pre-recorded audio. So that explains why the pitch changes instead of the speed when you get speed shoes then, right? At least if anything, some of the samples come out sounding better.

    I think if they put all the old 2d classics (Master system and genisis) as well as all the 3d (except maybe unleashed and 06) outings would certainly be worth the price.
    Definitely a collection I'd want.

    The 3DS'll probably be able to handle decent ports (not emulation!) of these games, but I doubt SEGA will ever release them in a collection when they could port them separately to 360, PS3, and maybe even Wii, and charge more for them.

    Those of you stuck with a DSTT (like me) will probably be interested to learn that the latest compatibility fixes will allow SCC to work on your card (after what seems like an age of waiting for updates).


    The latest cheats database includes plenty of codes for it as well, including the level select/debug mode hacks.


    With the cheats on, I discovered how it's possible to get into Sonic 3/S3K's Competition mode with a bit of trickery. Just 'unlock' the level select by pressing L+R+SELECT on the title screen, make sure 1-Player is highlighted, press Y+Start, then immediately back out to the title screen (press B). If done correctly, the cursor/highlighter should now be on Competition, which has conveniently showed up. (Pressing Y+Start at this point should also take you to the level select.)

    Only problem? It appears that - far from just taking the menu option out - they seemed content to butcher Competition mode quite significantly. The player/course select music has been replaced with S3's Act 1 Boss music. All the unique music from each level has been replaced with the Sonic 3 title theme (even in S3K!), and this change extends also to the sound test (see, or rather hear, for yourself). In addition, each level seems to have drawn a bit glitchy-like, with the graphics and the character's path going out-of-sync (I think that's the correct term, again, play it for yourself to understand).

    I'd like to test this out on the dumped roms through JenesisDS, but I'd imagine there's no way of hacking your way into the level select/debug mode through that method as of yet.

    Err... a port is far better for a console to handle than emulated, all consoles on earth can handle "ports" because they are made for that console, duh. And, a collection like this will never hit xD.

    I know that. I said what I said because there's no way the 3DS'll be able to handle emulation, so SEGA'd be pretty much FORCED to do a port, if they wanted to release DC-era games on the system.

    It's just an emulation glitch, nothing else. JenesisDS exhibits the same behavior with a clean Sonic 3 ROM.

    This makes sense - seeing as all the audio is being streamed as WAVs they aren't gonna include files for stuff that's never gonna be used ingame - but placeholders would naturally be put in to stop the game blowing up in the highly unlikely event the tunes without WAVs were played - that you managed to figure out a way of doing. =P S3's title makes sense as it's likely the first track of the WAV files.

    On a different note, has anyone got any of the games in this collection to run decently under DS emulators? DeSmuME, iDeaS and No$GBA all exhibit major slowdown problems for me. My P4 3Ghz PC is from late 2005 so it can't be *that* old surely.
     
  18. In my dreams there will be a patch which will allow the 2-Player modes to be played wireless on 2 DS's via Wifi.

    Even better would be to have those modes Online on Nintendo Wifi Connection to fight other people.
