Sonic Jam only allowed you to resume the game from the start of the first act.

Sonic Mega Collection had no save feature beyond Sonic 3's SRAM.

Sonic Genesis also only saved the farthest stage you'd got to.

Not sure about the XBLA and Ultimate Collection games.

Also you left out SMC+ and Gems, which are the ones who actually DO have the savestate feature.

I meant SMC+, yes, and Gems doesn't count considering the relevant games are only in it as "Final Boss Attacks".

Also, don't get pedantic over where the game picks up - the blurb certainly doesn't specify that it'll pick up anywhere other than the beginning of the act, since all it says is you can SAVE anywhere. Jam et al. still count.

I think the point is a savestate system so you can basically go into sleep mode without going into sleep mode.

R4 cards are all right, but its too glitchy with S3K. I'll opt for this, provided it has the reduced price of $20 USD (It should, anyway)

That was one of the better examples of modern Sonic art in my opinion... thanks for ruining it for me! :argh:

However, yes that art is very odd now that you mention it. It would look slightly more sensible like this:

To be honest, I'm feeling pretty ripped off about this. Sure, it's nice to be able to finally get the Genesis games on a portable, but ONLY 4 games? I'm not asking for something like CD or Fighters, but just 4 games? No Ristar? Blue Sphere? Not even Flicky? I know DS cartridges aren't exactly huge when it comes to the amounts of data storage, but they're even trying, are they?

  7. I would defenitely get it anyways just for the nostalgic factor. These 4 games were always my favorite of the Genesis titles, and even though Sonic 1 on GBA got bad reviews, I still got it anyways (and wasn't too impressed at how the GBA handled it... guess Sega really does what Nintendont. :-P although playing it on the DS slightly improved the lagging).

As soon as I heard bout it, I wasn't expecting much from it, but it WOULD be nice if Sega did give the Sonic compilations a whole new spin. For example, maybe they could have done something like a "Complete" sonic game where it combines all 4 of those games into one huge story mode or something, thereby making even tails and knuckles play the sonic 1 stages as a bonus unlock for beating the game. Or better yet, import the chaotix characters to make them secret playable characters in the games (without that annoying ring rubberband attached to them).

This is definitely a complete lack of trying. Considering that the cart is supposed to have videos of stupid shit nobody wanted the first time around, there's definitely plenty of space to spare. DS cards go up to 256MB, which is well and truly enough to host say, every Mega Drive/Game Gear/Master System Sonic game, plus Chaotix. Sonic CD would have to have its music redone to be synthed on the fly, which I imagine everyone here would have a big hissy over, so let's leave that out for now. Of course, manufacturing on 256MB ROMs is a great deal more expense than Sega wants to put out on a compilation, but you could probably fit everything in 64MB with room to spare if you cut the video shit. If I had to guess, I'd probably say this will be a 64MB card, which leaves plenty of space for the fourish games they're including plus a couple of videos and some concept art or something. I'd almost guarantee that the "bonus content" will take up more space on the ROM than the actual games.

  9. Remember this boxart?

There are "bonus features" in classic collection, but the box art doesn't say so, maybe there's more games than Sega's telling us.

At least that was brand new artwork, the artwork on this boxart is copy pasted Sonic channel art with his Santa gear edited off.

Also if you just have Sonic 3 & Knuckles by itself instead of Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles separately. Maybe change Sonic 2 a little so that all three characters are playable on one game.

    It still seems silly.

You can get a generic flash cart and a 1 gigabyte Micro SD card at least $20 cheaper then a DS game itself here (Not accounting for taxes and shipping, with taxes it is probably $14 cheaper, with shipping $7).

Anyway, my point is, if 1 gigabyte Micro SD cards are literally dirt cheap ($7, probably less in mass amounts) then why couldn't a similar medium be used on the DS, even if slower.

I really don't see what the big deal is, the Super Mario Advanced boxarts used reused art and those were pretty decent, I think that the Sonic art on the cover of this game looks fine.

So... Am I the only one with holding judgment on the game until it's released and trying to be optimistic? Just wondering...

Where the hell are you buying your flash cards from, expensive ... shit ... taxing ... land? You can get a quality card for ~AU$15 shipped.

I see bonus features there, and I see it on my copy of this game too.

    Also...

Though, the emulation in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection on PS3 was pretty good.

Emulation on my computer is pretty good too, for FREE, backups of my games from more then 10 years ago!

  18. I meant the DS game Sonic classic collection doesn't have the statements about bonus features on the boxart that was released. Yet it's been confirmed that there will be bonus clips and such. The reason I used mega collection is because people were saying that there were only 4 games, and I wanted to put some light by saying mega collection said it had bonus features and games, and sonic classic has been confirmed as far as bonus material, maybe there are some unlockable games on it.

  19. They prolly stuck all the info bout the game on the BACK of the DS box? Mega Collection (and the + game on xbox & ps2) had pictures and some more info bout what to expect from the game without releasing TOO much info. People thought the extra games were more sonic related (I.E. Knux In SOnic 2, Blue Sphere), but nobody knew they were gonna get Ristar, Flicky, Comix Zone, and The Ooze Not much is being talked about the game anyways, so Sega could just throw in something nice for us last minute before the game is released in March.
