What we are trying to say is take your time on this one.
When it's this close to the finish line, no reason not to go all the way with it before putting it out there! No doubt it will be worth the wait.
I'd much prefer the delay for polish, part of what held back my enjoyment of Classic 1 were the glitches. This looks excellent, it deserves that extra level of polish delay or otherwise.
Yeah, we've waited years for this without a fuss, so we can stand to wait a little while longer.
I'm okay with waiting a little longer.
Also, if anyone is wanting to know more of a reason behind the delay. This is why

At the moment its technically unlimited bar your internet connection and hardware. I'll likely have to artificially cap it at some number where the degradation of gameplay becomes too much.
There are a lot of other new "issues" that are rising up from this. I'll list a few below just for example
Special Stages are impossible as the stage rotates around the player. I'll likely have to either ax co-op special stages in initial release or figure out something else.
Electric shield presents a problem. Who do the rings gravitate towards when two players have it at the same time on screen.
One-time use objects. Not that many, but they do exist.
Disconnects. I currently have it that if you don't join initially, you don't get in. If you get booted out or decide to leave, the coop game ends.
Score/Items. Do all players get invincibility? Do all players get points when badniks are hit?
Super forms are basically a no. I COULD do them, but not enough time if I want this game out this year.
Save files. Do I allow a player to join the game or a stand alone. Currently its a stand alone new game. A major rework to the engine would have to happen to get the game to allow players to join mid level. It's not impossible, but its not easy.
Sounds like you just made yourself a SAGE 2021 goal.

Ya like Sonic Mania must take that into account for its multi-player, I'm sure there's a way to figure this out.
I've not been around here for a long time and I had no idea this was still in production, but having watched that video a couple of pages back, seriously impressive work. Really loving the zone themes you've put together. Whether they use recycled art in places or not, they look fresh and very well put together. Really looking forward to giving this a try when it's ready.
if the delay is simply multiplayer you can release multiplayer later as part of the sonic clasic 2 pluss expansion. atm i am more intrested in the solo campaign.
I'm 100% fine with a 2021 release. You have worked on this for so long that I want you be completely satisfied with the results of your hard work. I think aiming for a SAGE 2021 release would give this game the most exposure in the community.
I'm not interested about multiplayer, but you know I'd be up for some beta testing of the 1P mode(s) if you want.
I'll personally wait for the multiplayer to be finished.
