Look at this map. 2R takes place under ground.

 

That is absolutely amazing, I’m glad Mr. Ohshima has been so kind to contribute a name to one of the last great secrets of the classic series.

 

That depth do be looking kinda dubious

 

The real dubious depths was the R2 we made along the way!

 

What comes to mind first when I think about underground levels in Sonic series is Under Ground Zone from Sonic 2 (8-bit).
There, he fights the Antlion (at about 2:12):

Well, back to Dubious Depths and the Antlion:



Dr. Eggman used some kind of a vehicle with one wheel in that level.

 

There is some concern of the legitimacy of this as others have tried to be dubious with the alleged name of this zone before, are you able to provide more context to his response such as what you asked him initially, or if he is willing an interview of sorts?

 

For those who doubt this info: look, I don't have any intention to present fake stuff. I asked politely, then got a response. I don't usually share screenshots of private messages, but thought that message is worthy to share. What can I do to confirm the information? Ask Ohshima to make a tweet about it?

 

It would be helpful. While you may have the best of intentions and may not be lying, "dude trust me" doesn't exactly sit well with everyone.

 

Well, I reminded mister Ohshima about Sonic CD's upcoming 30th anniversary. It is a wonderful game, we know so much about it, but some things remain a mystery. So I asked about original level names, deleted level, also sent him "Little Planet" map. He replied in a few days - so here is his response.

 

I think it's a cool name!
But is there a chance you can like, take a smart phone and make a video recording of your Twitter PM's as proof?

PimpUigi, it's you! I really enjoyed playing your Sonic CD Restored Version! As for authenticity of the message - that's a good idea. I'll try to make a recording or ask N. Ohshima to make a tweet.

 

I believe you. But please include a link to the messages. That's how you will gain trust and respect widely. Otherwise, you inevitably plant the seeds of doubt with some.

Something I also see not touched on is how the song Sonic Stream contains what appears to be a remix of Little Planet and people theorize it’s a good future remix.

 

I'm aware, but the word "depths" is usually used for deep underwater areas, not underground tunnels:

By that logic the name Dust Hill must belong to a desert level...

Also a red flag is the lack of checkmark by Oshima's name in that "screen cap"

 

It doesn't show the checkmark on the mobile app for me, and I have the latest version (literally just installed just to check).

 

Last I checked deserts are made of sand, not dust
