Hello everyone! Wanted to post a thread about a quick little project I finished up the current version of and post my results for everyone to see! As everyone knows Sonic CD's Opening and Ending animations were upscaled and remastered by Tanks, Quazza, and Brady. They did a fantastic job fixing the sources they were given and these are hands down the best versions of these animations from Studio Juno/Toei! I did have some minor problems (probably out of their control) with the upscales and it mainly came down to lack of audio options and the color correction was a tad to blue skewed for my taste so I did my best to color correct and sync extra audio tracks to these new upscales for everyone to enjoy! What was my process? For the video I color corrected the video shot by shot using Sony Vegas making sure all the whites were balanced and then applying a color correction which I think worked out pretty well. I didn't want to make the colors too vibrant or punchy, but I also wanted to go for hues and colors that closer matched the Sonic CD animations on the Sega CD and on the animation cels. Would love to hear what you guys think of the results! For the audio I decided to include as many audio options as I could find. There are a few I am missing and probably will make another version in the future to include, but ATM these are what I thought of. Opening: You Can Do Anything (Toot Toot Sonic Warrior) Sonic Boom - Opening Theme (Sourced from the Sonic Boom Collector's Edition CD) Sonic Boom - Opening Theme [Instrumental] (There is no current version of a clean instrumental out there, but I created one using iZotope RX8 Audio Editor ad the results are very clean) Good/Bad Ending: Cosmic Eternity - This first track is very interesting as I did my own audio mix to try and restore sound effects from the SegaCD version and create a audio sync that imo is better suited for the animation Cosmic Eternity (This second track is just the normal mix from Origins if people didn't like the mix I made) Sonic Boom - Closing Theme Sonic Boom - Closing Theme [Instrumental] (Sourced from the Sonic CD D.A. Garden) Where can I download or watch these? I am uploading them to YouTube with links for downloads on each upload. I would love for everyone to check them out and give their thoughts! UPDATE 6/26/2022: New audio tracks and updated audio mixes! JPN/EUR Good Ending/Bad Ending - Updated higher quality sfx and music Opening Animation JPN/EUR - Added a new audio track! The audio track added is the original MegaCD mix of You Can Do Anything which hasn't been featured in any of the Sonic CD releases since it's original MegaCD release! More info here: https://tcrf.net/Proto:Sonic_the_Hedgehog_CD_(Sega_CD)/Ver0.02#Sound Huge thanks to Nuclear for recreating the Good Ending screen synth! Originally what I used was a game rip from the MegaCD version, but thanks to Nuclear it has be recreated using the original Roland D-550 and is now in Stereo! Cool! Nice quality. But Collison chaos,Metalic madness, and Metal Sonic racing cutscenes seems too fast
I really really like the visuals, nice and crisp and Sonic has a rich blue instead of the washed out blue we're used to seeing, and it just looks more vibrant in general, but what's the reasoning cosmic calamity playing the moment the cutscene starts instead of when Sonic poses in your mix? It's a little unfitting. Also, the race scene seems to be playing a little bit too fast compared to normal, which is just odd. Otherwise, great work!
The three vids are already uploaded. You can watch/download them from the Google Drive link in the vid they posted here.
I never quite liked the pacing the previous versions had. Music didn't quite sync with the video and it has been mixed in different ways so many times already I decided to just do my own mix. I did leave the Origins Mix as a separate audio track if you want that and I knew there would be people who wouldn't like my mix very much. I will be making an updated version sooner or later tho so stay tuned "I never quite liked the pacing the previous versions had.
