This looks ace, get Taxman on a $20-$30 console re-release of the classic trilogy (Including S3&K) and I'd buy it.

SONIC MEGA COLLECTION PLUS EXTREME ELECTRIC BOOGALOO EDITION

Better toss in Sonic CD and an immense amount of unlockables and goodies to pad it out, because this would be the billionth compilation ever released.

(which I would totally buy, by the way.) :v:

I'm actually suprised to see everybody demand the Genesis originals to be replaced by cutting edge, widescreen HD Retro Engine remakes without contesting the accuracy of the game engine itself. Don't get me wrong, from all the footage I've seen of the game, it looks downright perfect, but neither me nor anyone else here has actually played the game, and the Sonic fangaming community has a track record of producing pretty damn close and yet disappointingly off adaptations of the game which has become etched in our minds. I have full faith in this project, but I was also expecting at least one person to show a little skepticism!

...So is a 3DS download version COMPLETELY out of the question? :flunked:

So in a sense you saying the likes of the Sonic Nexus engine, S2HD engine and Mercury's new engine that we have all played are disappointing? I know you wouldn't think that about those but it doesn't half sound like it with your post. Personally the track record of producing pretty damn close and yet disappointingly off adaptations of the game is mainly down to most using that crap MMF2 engine. The community will always have a bad track record when they use a crap engine in the first place.

I hope that when you complete the game with all time stones/good futures, you can play again from the beginning, with the game defaulting to good futures rather than bad.

  9. Actually I played it. It's pretty dead on, you'd never believe it was a remake on a new engine.

This may be kind of a dumb question, but will this remake support the 4:3 aspect ratio? I don't own a single widescreen. (In fact, I still use CRTs)

  11. I'd imagine so.

The engine has been shown off a couple times in the past with basically spot on physics... specifically referring to an old Sonic Nexus demo and also this one demo with an original stage with the ratcheting lift gimmick from Mushroom Hill and a funky flame throwing arm launching robot monkey boss. It's hard to imagine it going backwards from there, it was basically perfect and had a huge amount of reverse engineering put into the work. It even uses the same style of collision masks as the original games for the most part.

So what's the size limit on 3DS eShop titles? I would imagine if it's too big for the Wii, it'd probably be too big for the 3DS.

Why? The Wii is handicapped due to its ridiculously small internal memory, but the 3DS only allows titles to be saved to an SD Card (save for DSiWare due to retroactive compatibility), which means theoretically there should be no upper limit that the game must meet, at least certainly not in the ballpark of < 100 MB, like the Wii is gimped with.

Compress the redbook audio, and it's likely highly possible to get the game down to just a few hundred megs. The bigger issue is probably adapting the program code to the platform, and adding some stereoscopic goodness.

Right on. I keep forgetting that SD card is there. I should use it for something useful...maybe put more music on this thing.

Despite the hurdles, as a consumer I demand for a WiiWare release of this game. Is it possible to you and Sega, Taxman?

Gameloft's Lets Golf 3D on the 3DS eshop is 1,526 blocks, which apparently converts to exactly 195MB. So I'd imagine the limit to be at least 200MB if not larger (obviously the 40MB Wii limit is not relevant here). That should be plenty of space for Sonic CD (which I believe is about 180MB for the original Japanese version), not sure about including the second soundtrack though, but it's enough for the original Japanese version in its entirety. I can't see a reason why 3DS couldn't handle it completely, bit surprised they didn't announce it for it. Should be plenty powerful enough too.

I'd imagine the game MIGHT be possible on the Wii, but I'm guessing the soundtrack would have to be redone midi style similar to how I hear Sonic 4 was on WiiWare.

    Jack shit.
Well we'll know how big the game is once it comes out next month. Then we can have concrete proof.

It's physically impossible to include either digital soundtrack within WiiWare's size limit. Would you still want the game then?

I realized this upon reading Granville's post about the <40MB limit. =(

    *Sigh* Nintendo.
