That's actually a really good attempt at Sonic 1's style. Knuckles' left leg (our right) looks a bit odd, though.

That sprite actually looks pretty awesome. A sheet like that would likely look great in a S1 project.

I guess the sprite work really depends, since some may see using the originals a showing of authenticity, but others may like refined ones for stylistic fit.

I suppose they alternatively could try Amy... *hint* *hint*

Part of Team Megamix, but haven't done any actual work in ages.
Regular S3 Knuckles looked just fine in Sonic 2. Really, you're overselling the 'clashing' thing. The styles really aren't that different.

  4. I agree, though I will admit that is an excellent job at finetuning Knuckles to a Sonic 1 style. I love Sonic 1's look, so I'm delighted to see this sprite.

Admitedly I never seen that big a contrast with Knuckles in Sonic 2, though it helps the stylistic changes are inconstant (eg. Sonic 2 Tails in Sonic 3) and most of the characters have a highly unique style from each other anyway.

I always thought Knuckles clashed terribly with Sonic 2 when I played it like that as a kid.

While I do like the modified sprite for Knuckles I think the dreadlocks look off. I always figured the ones near the back of his head whole be further front

It looks fine to me. As stated before, the styles aren't *radically* different, though I can see how a few of the features can be seen as weird or off.

Nothing that concerns this place in the least.
Seeing how well Knuckles' Sonic 3 sprite worked out for Sonic 2, as well as several Sonic 1 ROM hacks, I think it would work just as well in Sonic CD. Not that the Chaotix sprites are bad, but I would still very much prefer the former, and this is coming from a diehard Knuckles' Chaotix fan. Two other alternatives to this would be to use Sonic 3 & Knuckles sprites for the regular Zones, and the Chaotix sprites for the Special Stages (as shown here), or players can be given an option to choose which sprite set that would prefer, kind of like what was done for the spindash choices.

I can't see that sprite as anything other than Sonic 3 Knuckles with Sonic's face grafted on it, which I think is an inherent problem in trying to match the style. Just using Sonic 3's sprite (which, while not being consistent with Sonic CD, would be consistent with the other "Knuckles In" game) would be fine.

Hey guys, here's what Knuckles' sprites for Sonic CD going to look like since you been talking about him being a DLC, along with a few others as SCD 2011 Character select poses.

    Oi vey...

Agruing over the sprite won't matter as much as someone's ability to code it into a romhack. I'd prefer an actual DLC release by taxman, but at this point it's hard to know if we'll even ever receive a patch for glitches, let alone full DLC.

At this point, is there anyone who can take the existing sprites and just start hacking Knux into the game so we get a feel for how he'd play? Or is this something I could only count on Stealth/Taxman to pull off?

Didn't stealth make a proof of concept hack where knuckles was in the first level of Sonic CD?

Yeah, he made the Sonic CD style sprang up Knuckles sprites for Sonic Megamix. I just credited him when I ripped those sprites from the hack.

It's shameful a nice port has more glitches than the original one :(

  15. Agreed. I very much like this.

How far has Sonic CD's ASM development got compared to the Genesis games. If it's not much more complex I might try character hacking in the future (though I won't make promises just yet).

I suppose with Knuckles there is at least a fair amount of progress done sprite wise.

I believe sonic cd is strange in that every stage file is like a seperate game. They each have the sprite files and engine do in order to effectively hack scd, you'd have to edit every act and time zone to put in a new character

Crap. Is editing the game harder as a result, or does just more time consuming? Copying things over and over to different files will be an annoyance but it can be done so long as the ASM is clear enough.
