Sonic CD now out for everything except Nintendo consoles

I think around £3.99 would be an attractive price point for people to buy on a whim. There are a lot of people who want a new classic Sonic experience, and then there are the kids who will buy this kind of thing because it's moar sawnik. The DLC being cheaper would be great from a consumer perspective, but there are costs involved in offering DLC and I think that showing SEGA with our wallets that new classic content is the kind of thing we want is a good idea. Plus SEGA needs the money right now XD.

I wouldn't mind if there was a level pack with Final Fever for say 349 MS points, a cheap Knuckles add on for 116, or a combo pack for a slightly cheaper deal.

 

Right, that was the whole point. 5.00 is the doomsdale scenario of Sega being that dumb to overcharge for it. It was a point to illustrate that it doesn't affect the value of the original product. The value of the DLC would be questionable, but not the game itself.

 

...Unless they have enough documents to make the scrapped Round 2 as it was intended to be, I think they should leave any additional levels for a fully original sequel. Which needs to happen.


But yes, DLC for a playable Chaotix-style Knuckles would be awesome in any case.

 

Well, if all else fails, would anyone ever be man enough to do a Knuckles in SCD hack? DLC would be nice, but I'd take a hack if that's all we'll ever get.

Really, I want the bugs fixed more than anything, an option to switch between japanese and US soundtracks in the pause menu, and if Sega's bold enough, Taxman's new stages, and then MAYBE Knuckles.

All in that order of importance.

So long as we at least get the patch and some bug fixes, I will be ultimately satisfied.

 

What I think SEGA needs to do is make a limited edition boxed version, with an art book, fancy packaging and some interviews and whatnot. Sell it for a ridiculous amount of money and then rake it in from the collectors and super fans. It works for Trent Reznor and Radiohead, and I don't see why it wouldn't work for Sonic.

 

And if enough people don't buy this way out there product?

Money lost.

 

I'm all for a DLC with extra levels and bonuses, hell even a bugfix is a step up from SEGA's usual efforts. We have to show our approval of it.

 

Wouldn't the DLC pack be charged around one or two dollars? If it's cheap as hell, more people will buy it.

 

That only depends if it has achievements/trophies as more people are bound to buy it if it does.

 

Achievements are the bane of all existence. Curse the man who decided "LOL CAN'T 100% COMPLETE A GAME UNTIL YOU DO THIS OBSCURE BS OR PLAY ONLINE BEFORE PEOPLE STOP PLAYING ON LINE"

 

Agreed, achievements are basically just ways saying either you have way too much time on your hands, or you suck. And then they say you suck because you don't want to pay for more shit.

 

Do you guys know if this version could be combined with the videos from "Sonic CD DVD"?
I'm pretty sure most of you heard of it. But if not, it's a project that aims for having the videos from Sonic CD in the best quality possible (with the videos being remastered and all that). Looking at how there are vocals missing from the game and the video not being as good as the ones from that DVD, I thought it would be nice to combine the two into one. Especially with looping projects going.
I would gladly link to a download, but I don't know about how legal it would be. It's also on a torrent site, so that also makes it ban-worthy.
Should this go to the hacking forum instead?

 

I would gladly pay $5 for Dessert Dazzle and Final Fever combined. That right there is a winning combination that makes them worth purchasing.

And LOL at Knuckles in CD ruining the canon.

Speaking of remastering though, DID Sega ever actually do any polishing up on the footage?

 

I couldn't find a website for the project. Do share it if you find one, since I only ever had the DVD from Sonic on the Net and that site is long gone (as far as I remember), so now I could only find a torrent for it.

 

It's been mentioned that the movies in Mega and Gems Collection were remade from the original masters... But since those were playing too fast, I guess you'll find overlapped frames all over when trying to synchronize them with the originals.

Specially in a game that involves time travel. =|

 

Knuckles in Sonic CD sounds pretty harmless to me, though I never thought the sprite style contrasted that bad compared to what some fans say.

Alternatively they could make Amy playable, since she's certainly in the original game.

I admit the two new levels might suit better for an original game, but I can't complain to some awesome extras like that, especially since Desert Dazzle looks SO much like the similarly dumped Dust Hill. It would also be interesting to see how they go about making a new level for a previous game, something I don't think has ever been done for a remake before. Who knows, it might encourage them to do it for other remakes (Hidden Palace in Sonic 2 anyone?).

 

The sprites for Knuckles in Sonic 1 Style are in chaotix, pretty easy to get. He just needs a recolor. But I think Tails is enough.

 

There is still a lot of work to do to bring Knuckles into Sonic CD. Even if you take his sprites from Chaotix, there are still a lot of frames missing, like the Special Stage ones, or the 90° slope in Palmtree Panic.

 

Tails had the same issue, and that was solved easily.
