Knuckles DLC would mess up canon. Sonic don't meet Knuckles until part 3 came out. Even then they weren't on the same side right away.

Knuckles in Sonic 2 messes up canon. I meant purely as a playable character.

(Although hey, he could always visit the little planet when it returns at some point)

Nothing that concerns this place in the least.
I remember Sega saying sometime ago that Sonic CD took place sometime after Sonic 3 & Knuckles, since they've been trying to pass it off as "prequel" to the Sonic 4 saga. Plus, Knuckles in Sonic 2 had no story whatsoever, so I'm sure having him as a playable character in Sonic CD wouldn't mess up the continuity.

  5. Dude. That's awesome. Would it be stupid of me to start up a Facebook group asking for a true Classic Sonic experience, starting with Sonic CD DLC? It'd be a lot like that Mega man Legends 3 group-- they just recently got 100k likes.

If anyone here on Retro has any interest in helping me to get this going by liking and spreading the page, let me know. I'll make it even if it only gives us 1% of a chance of seeing this content (and maybe more in the future?) released.

Hell, I'd be down for this. More Sonic CD? What's not to love?

    And my bow?

(In all seriousness, if the group gets enough people, could we use it to pass the plea directly to Ken? What's the best way to get people to contact him about this? I would like to see Taxman here get the chance to do more work, not to mention finish what he's begun. Also, honestly, while I want the group to support a classic sonic game built with his engine, I don't want it to turn into an anti-S4 bashing clusterf*ck either.)

    NO.

They simply said that Sonic CD is a prequel to Sonic 4 the same way that Sonic 1, 2, 3&K are, and it is not specified when it takes place. I'm jumping on this right now because I don't want people to repeat it thinking it's true.

  10. Not at all. The group I run, at least, will discourage that. We should be appreciative of what they're doing with Sonic 4 (and be even more thankful for Sonic Generations), since they are providing us with 2D Sonic, even if it doesn't fit our vision of a perfect Sonic game. I should be able to get cracking on the group tomorrow evening. Gotta think of a clever name, since 100,000 For Bringing Back Mega Man Legends was such an awesome name and directive.

It probably won't accomplish anything, but the great thing is that it doesn't hurt to try it out.

Count me in for wanting those levels as DLC also, please.

  12. Sonic CD DLC, hell, I'm up for that, I'd even buy it on all the platforms I own the game on. Only one thing concerns me, the music, how would that be done? Unless there's left over music hidden away at SEGA for these levels.

I'd like to see this happen. The addition of Knuckles would be fairly easy to implement and an extra selling point for the DLC level pack.

I know its hard to reform a company from within, but it'd be nice to show Sega there is a reason to continue to update games after release. I would be for Knuckles DLC, and further, I think that boss idea is a unique take on the final bosses compared to what is usually at the end of the game (IE: Super Sonic all the freaking time).

Additionally, I will take the time to rate Sonic CD when I can get internet to my Xbox later today. I didn't realize the rating was so poor, despite the fact it is a superb remake.

I'll start by saying I would really love something like this.
However, this is only feasible with Steam. I seem to remember you have to pay a lot to release an update for a XBLA title, and probably for PSN too, and I'm not sure if it's worth the price in the long run. Maybe someone could add a bit more. Even Taxman said:

I would pay for this as DLC providing it has Knuckles and the ability to go super with all the characters as well. Oh and I would love to play different teams like Sonic and Tails, Sonic and Knuckles or have all three and switch them on the fly like in Sonic 2 Heroes. I'm sure it would cause a massive nerdgasm in the Sonic fanbase to play the trio together through Sonic CD.

Given how long it's been since Sonic CD (2011) has been released, I think additional DLC would do more harm than good. $5 is an excellent price point, and as it stands, really I'd rather have all the issues fixed than the additional content. While the addition of Tails is cool, I'd rather have more content with the material thats already there without having to pay for money. Having the ability to play as Tails or have different time zones to play through in Time Attack would be great. As nice as a whole new level would be, I'd rather see that in a new Sonic game instead of one whole level. Given how much Sega would charge for the additional content, in my opinion, would ruin the value of the game.

  19. ... how does it ruin the value of the game? It's an optional upsell. You think the product as it is is a tremendous value for 5.00. Adding Knuckles and more levels for 5.00 shouldn't affect your perception of the main product.

-TWO- levels (One stage and one just for a boss,) for $5 and adding a character the game wasn't designed for? No. That Sega All Stars add-on for $8 is bad enough. One level and one character. That's plenty of cash I can use for an entirely different game.

$5 is such a sweet spot that I bought the game for at least 6 people, and for myself on 3 platforms. (Android version was $2 at the time) $10 is not quite the same kind of value.
