Sonic CD (2011) Post-Release Bugs/Fixes/Suggestions

Discussion in 'General Sonic Discussion' started by ICEknight, Dec 15, 2011.

  1. I would not be opposed to seeing Red Star Rings retroactively added to older Sonic games, Taxman-made or not. Maybe if Sonic CD DLC ever actually happens they could be added via that.

I never had the chance to play SegaSonic (never got the emulator to work properly..), so for me, port-wise, that game would be ideal. I still have Knuckles' Chaotix for my 32X, just like back in the day, but also wouldn't be opposed to a port of that (I've played emulated versions of it and its crap compared to the game on actual hardware), seeing as not many got to play a decent version of it.

Seeing a new game for the Retro Engine, Sonic or otherwise? Make it happen

Knuckles Chaotix with custom levels for some sonic only game play would be nice.
Imagine it being like Sonic CD , but instead of time period travel, have some time of day travel lol .

Some zones showcased it was possible, look at Techno Tower zone.
If I remember correctly layouts for techno tower were the same or nearly the same for each act,
only just changing or adding some details or new paths here and there.

The background may have been set up for some realtime morphing, the mushrooms seen in each act which progressively morphed shape.
I bet they could be used in a realtime animation sequence as part of a realtime day progression system.

Animated backgrounds that were done on another 32X game, Tempo, shows that the it was possible on 32x hardware.
It also looks like there was some realtime pallet cycling for entire zones.
Amazing Arena zone was a very nice showcase of that.

I'm not sure if retro engine could pull all that off without additional features being added in,
Anyhow, thats something id like to see.

OK, I'm going to pull on the reins here and note this topic is about Sonic CD, not half a billion suggestion titles. Ease it up a bit. =P

I'm sure the last thing he wants is a billion different asinine requests that he will most likely not fulfill. Keep it to Sonic CD.

Nothing that concerns this place in the least.
I, for one, would love it if Knuckles, Desert Dazzle, and Final Fever were to make their way into Sonic CD as downloadable content. I don't know about anyone else, but Knuckles' exclusion from the game was the one thing that I found to be truly disappointing about this remake, since I happen to prefer him over Tails. Not that I have anything against Tails, I just thought it would have been a much better idea to include them both. I'm also agreement that a ports of SegaSonic the Hedgehog and Knuckles' Chaotix should be done, but it'll probably be quicker and easier to get the Sonic CD downloadable content out of the way first.

I'm told that the Windows Phone version is coming out this week.

What happened that it was held up for almost a full year?

Yeah, it's coming out on the Wed 14th I believe. As for why so late, it was a combination of different factors really. Priorities can shift, blah blah, etc etc. But hey it's finally coming!

I will say this though, I'm glad Microsoft finally came to their senses and supported C/C++ in Windows Phone 8. Too bad it was after I went to all the trouble of doing a "one off" rewrite of the Retro-Engine just to work on Win Phone 7 C# :v:

    Interesting.

Hopefully I can get a Windows Phone soon. Do you know how much it's supposed to be?

I don't, but the iOS and Android versions are US 4.99 so it's probably going to match. All WinPhone apps let you try before you buy if you're on the fence though.

  12. Any word on a patch for Sonic CD or is that pretty much in limbo status now along with DLC for Sonic Generations. Not that I'm complaining, it is a brilliant ...port/rebuild? of the game but would be nice to know if the few bugs here and there will ever be ironed out.

Which version are we talking about here? The Android version has already been patched, iOS will be coming soon (along with iPhone 5 screen size), and forthcoming Win Phone matches the current Android patch.

The console/steam versions, to be honest are out of my jurisdiction. Unless I get contracted do further work on those, it's not my job since Blit were always meant to do them from the start, I only stepped in so the consoles could have the same features as the mobile edition (remember how SCD XBLA had a mysterious emulated prototype that was replaced with this one?). And like you say, these aren't game breaking issues (although to extreme Sonic CD fans they might argue they are). But in terms of functionality, there's nothing to hard lock the game, wipe your saves or do anything malicious.

But I guess you could take comfort in the fact I will always have the "latest and greatest" versions of the scripts/engine code so theoretically, there's all sorts of update possibilities (not that I'd like to be chained to Sonic CD 2011 for all eternity :P ).

Yeah, you still have Retro Sonic XG to finish! :v:

  15. Yeah I was talking about the PSN and Steam version, thanks for answering though, I know how frustrating it is to deal with other parties and have someone else overlooking the entire thing and decided if you can and can not do the work, etc. Anyway, best of luck in whatever you decide to do next, if it's anything Classic Sonic related you can be sure a lot of us here will be buying it!

Sonic CD for WinPhone came out on the 9th according to the store. It's $4.99, so the same as iOS/Android. I picked it up, just as good as the iOS version. Plays great on my shiny new Lumia 810! Thank you Taxman :)

Then the Windows App Store lied to me :(
Also it was the featured app yesterday (main screen of the app store had a Sonic CD background, and a dedicated section to the game)

I saw the game got a new update today on Android, along with a lovely GET A SEGA ID NOW screen on boot up.

    Skippable, of course.
