Just a head's up for anyone going to DVR the show. From what I understand, if you DVR a show you have 24 hours to watch it for it to count for ratings. Episode set: https://docs.google.com/document/d/13nFFvW_f9gQNTcn3q9iQmO_yD0Q0xZjDEG2IVrF6yAE/edit?pli=1
Someone just watching a show on their own has no real impact on ratings. If you have an impact, you would know about it. Nielsen ratings randomly selects households from all over to be considered part of their random survey (which can come in different forms) and if you're not part of their survey group it doesn't matter if you watch the show or not. I had a Nielsen monitoring box hooked up to my TV for about 4 years, it was a pain it the ass because anytime I wanted to hook a new game system up to my TV or change anything with my TV equipment setup, I had to call them out for an appointment so they could hook their monitoring equipment into it. I finally got out of the program by moving, since if you move they don't want you anymore because their sample sources are targeted specifically to geographic areas.
Welp, who watched it. What are we looking at here. Is it a winner or is it Sonic Underground levels of cringe.
First half was just "okay" and pretty much the previews gave that all away. Second half was WAAAY better than the first though.
General opinion over on SSMB is overwhelmingly positive. Everyone seems to love it. I thought the first episode (Sidekick) was okay. Like, it was a thing. Not bad, not good. Way too rushed for an 11 minute episode and not entertaining to me. The second episode (Eggman becomes Sonic's roommate) was much better. It didn't ever make me laugh out loud, but it was entertaining.
First episode was mediocre. Just kinda felt like it just came and went. Second episode was great though, far better written and Eggman being a dick to Sonic and Tails is great to watch. Also: Tailored trends are off.
I've recorded and uploaded it to youtube, in very low quality, for those who can't watch Cartoon network ( like myself, I recorded it from an streaming I found online). At least it will calm your urges until a better rip comes online.
Not much, probably. But if it helps people who aren't living on USA and can't watch cartoon network, it's fine to me.
I'm one of the ones that caught the show when it aired, though I missed Eggman singing and bitchslapping Sonic 'cause the stream kept buffering. Luckily I managed to catch those parts through a streamrip someone on #retro uploaded afterwards. It definitely has a modern AoSTH vibe, which is good, 'cause I enjoyed AoSTH despite its silliness.
Okay, while it isn't the best thing I've watched, I laughed. So I'll keep watching. Sticks is still doing absolutely nothing for me, but I surprisingly really like Amy. First time for everything, I suppose.
My full thoughts will be running on the front page later as part of a round table with with Retro and Bits staff. But here's the abridged version: -First half sucked, watched Japanese wrestling instead because of how bored I was -Second half was better. Eggman stole the show hard, but this was always expected. He's basically the best character in the series for quite a while now (six years!) -Mike's singing Eggman voiced was the only thing that made me laugh out loud. Other things made me smirk, but that's about it. -I really liked the voice actors, but their written lines need work. They all feel forgotten compared to Eggman. -It was stupid that for the big conflict point of the episode, Knuckles, Amy, and Sticks just kind of stood around. They feel very useless right now. This will likely change. -Sticks isn't funny, but that's expected as the requisite "lolsorandum" character. Her voice was fine though. Maybe kids will like her more? -This IS a kids cartoon, so I'm not expecting top-grade humor and writing, but would like to see the others shine too. Hell, my only real complaint? Crush 40's Sonic Boom isn't the show's main theme. Granted, the main theme is barely 10 seconds long because of Cartoon Network wants more ad space time than intro time.
Not counting the OVA (which is amazing), this is probably my favorite animation based on Sonic. It was amusing, has a bit of that Sonic Colors humor to it. There are problems though: Sticks. The entire character so far, both in this and in the comic from what I saw so far. Knuckles is kind of stupid, but I liked him in Sidekick. Overall, it's mildly amusing, worth a weekly watch anyway. The 3DS demo though... I don't think I've been this disappointed in a Sonic game ever. I'm the kind of guy who loved even Sonic 06 (besides the ending), but this game... it doesn't really feel like Sonic. The first stage was a complete mess, the worm stage could go for a flash on the official website. The racing stage wasn't that bad, I guess. it was too slow and due to the engine being weird, didn't felt as good as Sonic Rivals 1-2. I have a feeling I'm going to regret this purchase once I make it.
Sticks didn't say much but she was enjoyable. Dunno why we couldn't get her with Blaze instead of Marine
I can. Marine has a horrible reputation among the fans. Someone mentioned her at Boom 2012 (the one in San Diego) and the crowd booed at her name. She's not even at ironic love like Big The Cat gets. She's not worth bringing back. Yes, even after her comic adaptation with Shadow that drew the infamous Shadow face. EDIT: Oh, I see, misread. They may be holding off on Blaze for some reason or another. A shame, out of all the new friends that joined since the Genesis games, Blaze is easily the best of them, far and away. They should bring her in more.
It's pretty good, actually! Other than Sticks being the most one-dimensional character I've ever seen, I enjoyed both episodes for what they were worth. Also
I basically agree with everyone here. First half wasn't that great but second half was much better. I actually chuckled a few times during the second half. I think the show will turn out alright once it finds it's footing. Definitely interested in watching more to see where it goes. I was not expecting it to do that, I thought I'd watch those first two and be done. So, hopefully it gives us some good moments in the future.
I actually liked first half better. It had better plot and more funny moments. Also Sticks was barely in it.
I actually didn't mind Stick at all. I thought that she would be incredibly annoying, but she actually wasn't that bad.
