Here's a glitch I happened to catch while recording Generations, during Egg Dragoon. Sonic games ain't perfect. Though it does seem like this one's on its way to a bakery, to take all the cakes.
Sonic 06 and now Rise of Lyric are littered with glitches. The glitches are everywhere. Glitches do happen in Unleashed and Generations, but it's rare when they happen. Most of them can only happen on purpose. It seems too easy to stumble upon glitches in Rise of Lyric no matter how unique your first playthrough is. What I'm saying is Sonic Team has made strides in bug-testing their games since the Sonic 06 fiasco. I don't find it fair to compare their games to Rise of Lyric if we're on the topic of testing standards.
Yeah, the cutscene started to play and the audio started looping that same second repeatedly until it ended. Didn't have anything else like that happen for the next hour-ish I played though.
Pointing to better Sonic games and saying "they had glitches too" doesn't validate much. Even if it did, something like the force field nonsense isn't even a glitch, but a design element that was overlooked.
It's incredibly easy to glitch through walls with the Werehog in Unleashed. Restarting the level at certain points in Generations retains some of your water physics. There are various collision-related bugs that should've been caught with a decent amount of testing, and various ways of abusing the way Sonic handles that should not have ever actually been possible. In fact, I was actually thinking all the way back to the classics. The fact that Ice Cap's spike bug was found before Sonic & Knuckles, but not really fixed (it still hurts you if you're invulnerable! After discovering that the spikes hurt you in one situation where they shouldn't, did nobody think that maybe there were other situations? Did nobody look to see what other objects check before hurting Sonic?), and the way the lightning shield deals with the screenwrap (I.e. it doesn't). And don't forget about Robotnik's traps! I like how people are complaining about a comment I made that was entirely sarcastic and not meant to be taken seriously in any way. I also like how you're assuming that I'm saying the modern games are bad (I love the Unleashed trilogy more than every other Sonic game that isn't S3K or SCD). I also like how some are saying I think the game will be bad because it has bugs, or think the game will be good regardless of bugs (I think the game will be mediocre because the entire play style and design of the game reminds me of other games I also consider mediocre). But basically, it was a fucking joke.
Yeah, exactly like in Sonic 2 when you jumped after hitting a signpost having 50 rings and 7 emeralds resulting in freezing your process and forcing you to restart the game from the very beginning or Sonic 3's barrel. I suppose those games are garbage now because of that. I mean Sonic boom having a considerable amount of glitches does not make it any better but for me it's not enough reason to put fingers on it and laugh. You guys just want to jump on the hatewagon too much.
Those problems are scrutinized all the time (at least the barrel), and that doesn't justify the oversight here. Regardless, the game is broken in many more aspects than this; there's a difference between a design problem being the exception and being the rule.
I don't care about the subject matter enough to watch a full playthrouh of the game and prove my point but I'm pretty sure it can be beaten without encountering any major (gamebreaking) problem. I mean from what I've seen so far the game is a passable title made by people who don't care but it's not broken to the state of being unplayable. Feel free to disagree.
The crux of my argument was that most other Sonic games don't have as many glitches as Sonic 06 or early 3D Sonic games in general. The main complaint about Unleashed was the Werehog and the medal collecting. The main complaint about Lost World was the level design and the dodgy controls. Glitches were only a primary complaint with the Adventure era titles and Sonic 06, and now that seems to be the case with Rise of Lyric. As for Genesis era glitches, I won't defend those. It's a good thing those glitches were fixed in later revisions of the Genesis games, but I can only imagine the frustration of those who came across those glitches in the original releases. I feel fortunate not to have come across those glitches as a child, especially that Sonic 2 one with Super Sonic and the signpost. I'm gonna check and see if that was fixed in Sonic Jam. I know it was fixed in Sonic Compilation. EDIT: Good, it was fixed in Sonic Jam. There's also the StealthTax version which wouldn't have glitches like that anyway.
I do get the whole 'jumping on the hate bandwagon' thing - that seems to happen a ridiculous amount in the Sonic community, but come on......after all the hype of 'ex naughty dog veterans' etc and then all these design flaws, glitches, horrible cut scenes, etc etc you can only defend stuff so much. I'm still quite hyped to play this when it gets to the UK but I can already see its NOTHING SPECIAL, which is kinda what I (and many others) was HOPING for. I have not been keen on the 'new look' of the characters etc but I always deep down thought this maybe a game I play and really enjoy even though it's not your typical Sonic game, but that 'hope' is fading away quite quickly.
That was...one of the weirdest unlockables I've ever seen in a Sonic game. That wouldn't have been too bad if it weren't for + - the lousy animations they have for the characters dancing. That, and more danceable music would've been cool. Like if they had a really cool song with them really getting into it, at least it would've shown some actual effort as a reward. But animations are so lifeless and lazy that it just gives the vibe that the developers didn't give a fuck. Still would've been a weird as fuck reward though. Edit- Gotta love how this game is officially released and yet it has no reviews what's so ever. [LINK] [LINK]
Here's a pointless question: why is everyone communicating with telepathy? Because in the 3DS version's cutscenes, everything is conveyed with thought bubbles for some bizarre reason. At this point, it's not really the biggest offense we've found, but...
Spoiler Oh wow, it's the Lego games all over again. Would have been nice if they had done what the Lego games did, use a techno remix of one of the tracks from the series the game is based on (techno Imperial March, techno Danny Elfman Batman theme). Also, are they supposed to be doing the robot, or was it just pure laziness to give them the animations of a Barbie doll?
Spoiler Well, here we go again! In all seriousness, it's clear that the games in one way or another are trainwrecks in their own ways. I might as well just wait for a video of all cutscenes to get posted so I don't have to struggle with it myself to see if the story is salvageable in any way or form. Otherwise unless the cartoon can stay entertaining (the first part of the pilot sucked, but the second part was much better) and show that at least someone cared, I'm ready to say this spin-off tanked.
but, they did. way back in 2010, right when Mario and Mega Man were just starting up that "revival" bandwagon. except, it's Sonic, so
