Well the 3DS game is just very EHHHH. I probably would have liked it a bit more if I could use the d-pad to move.
A couple of let's players who try too hard to be funny got the game early and put the first half-hour online. Warning: awful commentary: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSaxZHPZo38
I wish they would focus on two sonic games at one time. Have one team make modern games like boom, and have another team try to recreate the classics, or better yet lets have Sonic Generations 2. I would love to see levels like Ice Cap and Death Egg zone remade. Everyone loved Generations, why didn't they continue to go down that route?
I really wish people doing LPs would stop trying to be Game Grumps clones. It isn't even because I want to hear the game, but forcing humor is the best way to instantly be considered annoying. Just let it come natural. It's a damned Sonic game, the humor will arise from its own mediocrity. Case in point: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xrS5NEBKjU Well aware of the irony of linking this.
I'm actually going to stick up for the LPs chatter / attempts as humor over the video. The actual gameplay (all aspects of it) looked as interesting as filing your taxes, so their nonsensical commentary was enough to keep me watching the entire thing without skipping ahead. Speaking of which, my thoughts remain unchanged about the game-it just looks really boring and switches from a pale imitation of Sonic to a pale imitation of better action-adventure platformers. Story seems interesting at the very least, and the cutscene dialogue and delivery between characters are fun to watch. Really liked that Metal Sonic's role got upgraded to second-in-command of Eggman's fleet of robots-I think that alone has given him more justice than essentially every Sonic game since his introduction in CD. Unfortunate however that the constant in-game chatter and the insipid music are still present despite the PR's reassurance that both would be fixed in the final product.
It doesn't look all that bad, but obviously it's not actual Sonic, and it's geared towards younger folks. I'll stick to the normal series :v:
I have a feeling Sonic Boom will only be worth experiencing when all the cutscenes are glued together to form a mini-movie. I can't see anything about the gameplay being enjoyable at all. Is Richard Jacques behind the soundtrack? What happened? He's usually not so... dull.
He's on both. And yep, dull. Just like all those great minds at Sanzaru and BRB, it all went to pot when they touched a Sonic game.
Where'd you hear he was on both BB? Not doubting you I'm just curious. I just haven't kept up with Boom news as much as other games.
I think IA've found a difference in design between Boom Metal and Mainstream Metal- the former has pink eyes like some of the badniks in Colours/Generations, not red. Not really relevant to anything, just wanted to write it down cause a while back people were saying the two were identical.
Amy's voice acting is a bit different than in the show. Guess her VA just got better around the time they started doing voice work for the show.
Bob Rafei confirms it's Richard Jacques at 7:40 here. Amy's VA is much better in the show, probably due to the direction and how the lines are recorded. For the show, all the cast are in the room at once and reading it like a play almost. It might be a bit more traditional for the game where everyone comes in comes in one by one and reads their lines all in one go.
I was actually really liking the cutscenes from Part 1. I liked the banter, and the drama didn't take itself too seriously. Also like how everyone was ganging up on Sonic for unlocking the door.
Too bad the loading times are still pretty long, even if there's not so many of them. This game just looks flat out bad. I know that people have been saying it's just a run-of-the-mill kids platformer based on a cartoon, which is definitely is, but that's bad in my books. It doesn't look like any fun at all. Bad, lazy, cheap design all over. Spoiler I can't wait for my pre-order to arrive.
