I can hear the gears of sequel development slowly but surely grinding to a halt with each new announcement.

Let the tv show go on for a while, though, I like what I've seen.

So every behind the scenes video ever? Cause that's every behind the scenes video ever: the developers talking about how much they put into it without saying how it is actually made. So by your logic, every game ever is very likely to suck. :v:

I like when they said that switching between characters with unique abilities in a Sonic game was a brand new thing.

I mean, that doesn't remind me of a game that came out in 2003 or anything.

Butbutbut this time it's four characters that all act on their own. So different.

New moves. Same superpower of teamwork. Sonic Boom - Don't you think it's time for a change of pace?

    Eggman sure does!

But man, I played this game at the Sonic Boom event and it was just so ...meh. It's 100% playable, runs smooth, graphics are decent... but it just lacks any spark or charm and it doesn't flow like a platformer should.

There are no exciting gimmicks are cool set pieces, it's just really long, blocky, bland levels. It has some neat ideas, but none of them are taken far enough to be interesting.

I hope little kids eat it up, though, because SEGA is dumping big time dollas into this, and it'd be horrible for them if this were to fail.

    I know if I were 7 or 8 I'd be stoked.

Not where I want to be.
Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
I don't usually see this many behind the scenes videos for upcoming games. And the ones I do see don't ever seem so...desperate.

Forgot to post about this. While I was at NYCC I had the chance to play the 3DS version since the Wii U version was taken at that moment. Wow, talk about boring. The game is just, bleh. I don't know why, it just didn't click with me. It was slow, monotonous, and just not very fun. I wouldn't recommend someone play the 3DS version. It also didn't help that the guy playing the Wii U version was right next to me and kept saying "Oh man, after this, I will never mess with Amy." Or something to that degree. He kept repeating it, but I didn't have the heart to tell him to stop since I assumed he was just having fun and I didn't want to be a kill joy.

I disagree completely. If this ends up being as bad (or at least as mediocre) as it looks like it might be, it needs to fail so SEGA will move on to trying something else.

I mean when you think about it, this is a kids game. It's the equivalent of any game based off a TV show (although unlike many of those this at least looks like the foundation is solid, even if the whole thing is just a meh fest). While its a tad odd that it's a game based off a show based off a game, that's what we're looking at. Just have to try and remember that this is a spin off, and that ye ol tan arm sonic still exists and they're working on something.

At least it's better than what happened with crash bandicoot and spyro.

Yeah. I've been saying for a while that Boom looks like a very typical licensed kids TV show kind of game. Rudimentary platforming, excess amounts of button mash combat and characters who won't shut up are three staples of the genre. It's clearly been designed as that sort of game with Sonic characters slapped on top more than it is anything else.

The only thing I worry about is Boom being such a huge thing for SEGA. Of course in early days like this they'll have to focus on it squarely over the regular Sonic brand in order for it to have a chance of success, but I'm not so sure about things long term. I'll believe that regular SEGA Sonic is still properly a thing when I see it. Hopefully there's a big, normal Sonic game in development. Until we see anything of it though, I'm sceptical.

It really is pretty much like one of those platformers based on TV shows or movies for PS2 and Gamecube like Spongebob: Battle for Bikini Bottom, The Incredibles or even some somewhat more recent games like Epic Mickey. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, Big Red Button does have people who worked on those kinds of games, particularly the first two examples I just named. I do still think that this makes it one of the more interesting Sonic games in a weird way. Also it helps that I actually like those kinds of platformers.

There are a bunch of new Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric screenshots here: http://www.sonicstadium.org/2014/10/new-sonic-boom-screenshots-vehicleweapon-info/

Reveals stuff like weapons (and by weapons I mean trumpets and cartoon hands that slap enemies) and a submarine section.

They really need to go back to the roots, back to using sprites, back to looking at what worked and learn through past failures.

    Things they need to do:
-Add more abilities for each character that represents their animal race
    -Special abilities. Hacking, Spikes, Digging

Tails: Intellect. Can hack computers, badniks to do things. Can be used in other layouts to discover secret areas containing classical powerups.
Can use his tail to swat enemies, can sprint and tackle enemies down.

Can gather metal from fallen enemies to build himself things that can aid him, and aid in the classic gameplay without overpowering the classical spinning platforming genre.

Sonic: Speed. Can create a tornado to propel himself, can shoot spikes, can kick an enemy into other enemies, use his velocity to go jump into other areas
Knuckles: Power. Can smash into hard boulders, and can dig underground to find alternative areas.

    -More paths, multiple bosses.
Think like Star Fox 64. You took a hidden path, you go to a different route to fight different bosses.

-Fishlens effect, game less intensive than Sonic Xtreme and more like a 2d with 3d element sprite game.

-Not helping you on how to do things, all about figuring it out.

-Having a manual in the game to read it

Story Concept #1: Set after Sonic & Knuckles, be simple. Eggman stumbles upon a crystal with enormous powers, that compare to the chaos emeralds. They are called Harmony Crystals, and they meant to be used for good. Eggman uses this for evil, and they are used for the wrong purpose. He aims to harness this jewels power to not only take over the world, but the universe. Sonic and his friends need to go collect the rest of the Harmony Crystals and put a stop to Eggman's evil ambitions before it's too late.

Needs to not force you to do puzzles, meant to be free flowing and giving you choices.

Have a level section that requires you to hack a robot to get inside the next area, and you don't want to do it? Go the other way

Special Stage should involve the bi-plane, set after you get 50 rings and exit the lamp-post. Should play an animation where Tails flies in, Sonic looks up and gets on it, fades to white and plays the jingle:

Background should be like that of the level, with ufo's. Aim is to destroy UFO's in air, avoid the electronic ufo's. Collect rings and hit capsules for powerups. It's a mix between Sonic CD and Sonic 2.

No other characters, mention of Amy and Amy in mini-game. Unlockable easter eggs like funny pictures, etc is good.

    More ideas to come.

They can make this game avaliable through every system. It has to be pixels, and I know it's a bitch, but come on, they can use technology to create pixels and they can tweak it.

Super Sonic's plenty fun, just his themes piss me off to no other (Yet while it would have fit perfectly in Generations it was oddly omitted).

Hell after all these years even my Dad remembers that Super Sonic theme from Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Du Dudu dudu dudoo DUdudududu dududududoooo

And don't get me started about how I wish the series was. I was hoping Generations would lead Sonic into a golden age, with half the games being in the modern style and half being in the classic style. But instead we have Sonic Lost World and Sonic: Battle for Bikini Bottom. There is a topic for this btw it's the "What do you want Sonic to be" topic. So I digress. This game...

It's looking like, depending on the reviews that is, I'll either wait for the game to be $20 and pick it up one day when I'm bored (I wanted to do that with Sonic 06 one day, but somehow that game is still $20. I'd pay no more than $5 for that abortion), or it'll join the likes of Sonic and the Black Knight and I'll never play it.

You mean the invincibility theme, Dark Sonic?

Not always. Super Sonic's theme in Sonic 3 is just the invincibility theme on loop, but a lot of other games Super Sonic has his own theme outside of invincibility (especially the modern games that don't have invincibility power ups any more). Regardless, the invincibility theme last a couple seconds. Super Sonic's theme, whatever it is, goes on loop for as long as you don't run out of rings, so many times it's for the rest of the level.

Oh lol that, well same thing. It was on memory because of all the time as Super Sonic. If it was just invincibility I doubt he'd remember.

Hi there. Resident expert of fandoms, memes, trivia, and linguistics here. And this is my boy Sherman.

At this point there are probably more Sonic, Littlest Pet Shop, and Care Bears fans than Pound Puppies fans, if deviantART is anything to go by, let alone the differences in gaps between shows and/or games. In comparison to these aforementioned fandoms, the only meme with any lasting power was "Secret, but fun", from the mouth of John DiMaggio (as sheepdog Niblet), whom had graced our ears with "Bite my shiny metal ass!" during his tenure as Bender Bending Rodriguez on Futurama.

As far as referencing ... a certain programme concerning equines of pastels and technicolors, or a male character, whether a genius or not, enjoying something girly, they've been beaten to the punch by such series as Bob's Burgers (season 4, episode 17, "The Equestranauts", originally broadcast on 13 April 2014 on Fox), Teen Titans Go! (season 2, episode 8a, "Friendship", originally broadcast on 2 October 2014 on Cartoon Network), The Simpsons ("Simpsons did it!"), Hot in Cleveland, Mad, The Colbert Report, Tosh.0, and even the aforementioned Pound Puppies (season 2, episode 10, "No Dogs Allowed", originally broadcast on 1 September 2012 on The Hub).

Those sound like pretty standard sitcom.plots, which isn't necessarily automatically a bad thing. It depends on how they do it. + - As for the Amy fanfic episode, that sounds like it may be the Sonic Boom equivalent to MLP's "Daring Don't", insofar as it talks about the fans of their respective series   , though some might hope that it turns out like + - Tina's friend-fiction from.Bob's Burgers   .

"All of the characters go to various alternate dimensions" is a standard sitcom plot? :v:

    Also just updated that post.
