Man it's so funny and sad at the same time. I watched part 1 of GG playthrough and now can only lay back in my chair and watch this disaster happening.
You know what, this episode wasn't that bad. Loved the Hamburger Helper joke. Between Boom and Tropical Freeze, I might actually be willing to tolerate these guys again. Still don't like how they corrupt every fandom they touch into constantly referencing them, but w/e. Now if only they weren't afraid of going over the old Youtube time limit. Seriously.
As much as I disagree with Arin regarding his 'all 3D Sonic games are bad' comment (which he then quickly contradicts by explaining that Lost World wasn't bad) I honestly can't agree with him more regarding this game. New demographic or not this game should not passed QA. Even with Youtube's shitty quality it's easy to see the frame drops and the awkward cut between sequences that make the 'world' feel horridly segmented into set pieces. I mean for Christ's sake, ProJared pointed out the horrendous frame rate months ago as I'm sure many players of the game have, and you're telling me a group of paid professionals failed to notice this flaw? Not only the framerate and disjointed feel of the levels, but there's no polish to this at all from what I've seen: Take the speed section for example, when Knuckles and Amy join Sonic and Tails there's just a hideously awkward moment where Sonic and Tails seem to be running in place despite the animations running at the same speed as when the duo was running full pelt. This had the opportunity to be an enjoyable and solid co-op platforming adventure, not a good Sonic game by any means regardless of how many fucking rings you put in the levels, but a good generic game nonetheless, and they fucked it. So not only has this game split the fan bance once again, (seriously, the number of partitions are becoming ridiculous) but they've already managed to bastardise a new branch of the franchise that they've spent the last 6 or so months pushing down our throats. Good game Sonic Team and Big Red Button, good game. EDIT: Oh god that drowning sound cheered me right up, thank you Retro.
I'm kinda sad about this. $20 million (assuming that's the total budget for just the Wii U game) could have done amazing things in the right hands. As long as you don't blow it on licensed property, celebrities or over-inflated marketing, that kind of cash could let you hire a pretty stellar team of developers. Makes you wonder what exactly went wrong and who dropped the ball.
I suspect the majority of money is being put into the cartoon and the games are merely tie-ins, as happens.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B2OI_5pCYAA0UnU.png:orig HOW CAN YOU FUCK UP SO BADLY THAT PEOPLE CAN IMPROVE THE GRAPHICS BY A GLITCH
I'm assuming that was done for a reason though. Presumably the framerate takes a hit with the higher graphics settings, or something.
The framerate is already wonky enough without these better looking settings, wow. Why did they make this in CryEngine again?
Considering all I've heard about the framerate normally sucking ass, I'm curious if upping the graphics makes the game just outright crash or something.
Arin said the game was being stretched from a 720 resolution to a 1080 resolution. If he's right, I'll wait until someone on here confirms that before considering it fact, does the glitch cancel whatever's stretching the game?
I think this game somehow got worse since I played it at PAX. I have no idea how that's possible. Either way I'm glad it did, because the fallout is hilarious.
I doubt this glitch would change the resolution the game natively renders at. My best guess is that the game either triggered or failed to disable settings reserved for cutscenes or something. It sort of reminds me of that whole Watch_Dogs E3 settings debacle, except... y'know, more retarded. :v:
This is normal for Wii U games. There are only a couple of Wii U games that actually run at 1080p: Wind Waker HD and Smash Bros Wii U. The rest are all 720p or lower.
Starting to feel like I have to play the game out of morbid curiosity though I might just hold hope for this to get patched in.
