So today, I ported the whole damn thing over to AS (thank god that's over with, and I can now use lovely pluses and minuses and macros and god knows how much more stuff) and changed a few bits of crappy Nemesis compression to awesome Kosinski compression. Erm, long story short, all that enabled me to revamp the title screen and character select, so they now appear on the character-icon-tile-background which scrolls up-right, and when you press start at the title screen, the title screen will scroll upwards off the screen, and the character select will scroll in from the bottom to replace it. Also, if you wait a bit at the character selection screen, you'll see some text scrolling along the bottom, including the current build number (which is incremented by a 3-line VB program, yay). I decided to start at build 1000, because I have no idea how many previous builds were made =P

Next on the list is three splash screens, including that awesome Sonic Retro one.

Then it's back to work on Big Sonic, I.e. back to fixing whatever stupid bug is crapping up my mappings editor.

Once that's done, I'll be carrying on with the other stuff on the to-do list on the wiki page. Beta 5 gets closer. :3

This looks like good stuff and I can't wait for it to come along.

Yeah, I know it sounds like something out of someone that can't come up with words...which is pretty much the case, but it's true. :P

Heh, I have to agree, this sounds awesome! I can't wait for the next beta...
By the way, are you going to fix it so that shields don't break savestates? While some may not use savestates, it would still be nice...

That was already fixed ages ago when I made it so that SRAM is cached in RAM and saved when you complete an act. :P

Yeah, I forgot to change a few pointers... but this was too funny to not post

I'm the developer =P, and also sorry but it's Glowing Bridge Zone :(

Expect to see lots of Retro references, though!

  11. Just out of curiosity, couldn't you have just used rotsprite to scale the sprites up?

    I've never heard of rotsprite...

    Anyway, updates!

No, that isn't a hoax :P Big Sonic is in the game, but so far it's only graphical and collision hasn't been modified yet.

Super Big Sonic. As you can see, I need to remove what were the invincibility stars, because there's no space for them when you're big.

Yeah, not all the sprites work yet. Walking, running, rolling and spindash work, and possibly some others, but definitely not the clear pose.

Robotnik should be scared... because someone fatter than him now exists :P

Same story as with the invincibility stars here, only they apply to rings instead. I'll just disable big/mini characters in special stages, because it's silly having anything other than normal size there.

I guess that's useful, but it seems to work on images, rather than sprites+mappings+DPLCs.

I've got Big Sonic's collisions working decently now, but it seems to inconsistently fuck up loops, "run up the wall" curves, S-bends and parts in LZ where there are 16-pixel-high walls. Looks like I have a lot of work to do...

  15. You could try just removing the S-bends and small areas in Labyrinth Zone, and eventually fix the loops and curves.

Looks nice. Did you manually create a set of art and mappings for these? I think a custom art loading and mappings loading algorithm could do well here.

Why don't you make it so that only Small Sonic can do the S-Bends, while expanding LZ.

Yeah, I think I will just make it so that Big Sonic can't even enter S-bends... also, you mean Normal Sonic, because there is also a Mini Sonic to be added =P

    (same goes for all characters)

Not sure what you meant by "expanding" LZ, but I can easily ditch the 16-pixel-high walls. =P

Yeah, I've been working on my nameless SonMapEd-ish program and using that to scale up the sprites and then optimize the mappings. I'd release it, but it's WAY too glitchy at the moment (hence messed up standing, clear, etc sprites right now).

If by that you meant to scale it up in software, there's two reasons I don't want to do that:

    1. I already asked Puto if it would be feasible, and he replied that it would be very, very slow. SATSEE is already quite laggy, and I'd rather not risk slowing it down any more.
    2. I may eventually want to redraw the big sprites so they won't be blocky.

I have no clue what you mean by "expanding LZ", but I like your other idea. So you would be forced to transform back to Regular Sonic to get through certain sections, or even turn to Mini Sonic. Something like this happened also in Super Mario Land 2, where you needed to be small to get to the secret level in Turtle Zone. I think this is a good idea. Secrets hidden where Big/Regular Sonic can't reach them. Plz do.
