Not that a single (quite possibly hoaxed) magazine cover is any basis to lambast a game on. Just saying you may not have picked the best example in the world.

So far all we've got is Sonic holding a sword.

If it's a SatSR sequel, it could be pretty nice; it seems to different development groups are working on them, so it shouldn't obstruct Unleashed or Chronicles. I'm willing to bet that in the year since the original, that group has had time to work on cleaning up the control issues that made SatSR so frustrating.

Also worthy of note: the Wii MotionPlus addon announced a t E3. It allows for more detailed movement with the Wiimote, including... get ready... sword simulation.
A more controllable Secret Rings with swords could be pretty fun, especially if the upgrade leaks into Party Mode.

I kind of wish this was a spinoff for a Sonic character that had more business playing with swords. Shadow had them in his game. Espio could get away with it, since he already has throwing stars.

Or just make Mighty do it.

...I don't think I've ever seen such a quick reaction of scorn in the Sonic community in all the years I've been around.

And I'm not sure I can blame all of you.

Seriously, how many times can Sega shoot itself in the foot before you eventually die of blood loss?

There are many components to this that concern me greatly if it's legitimate. First...not even a mention of it from E3...unless it was shown behind closed doors with an iron-clad NDA.

Second, if this is on track for a release date near Sonic Unleashed, it's either taking much needed development time away from that, or this new title is getting very little attention at all.

You simply can't have a lot of hope for this either way. It really is pushing a brand (if that's all Sega considers Sonic to be now, just a "brand") beyond its limits.

Man they're really reaching for gimmicks aren't they. Normal Sonic gameplay is NOT AN OPTION OKAY GUYS

I'll reserve judgment. After all this could just be a sequel to Secret Rings except this time he's in medieval times or whatever. We'll see.

You guys act like this is the worst sonic related thing ever...did we all forget shadow and his guns? I rather sonic have a sword then a bunch of guns......accept sonics shitty fate and play the genesis games...

 

The idea was that people were supposed to think SEGA had learned their lesson after the shitstorm they received over Shadow the Hedgehog. It just goes to show you that not only is SEGA not trying to keep their fans, but they are actually going out of their way to alienate them more.

 

I blame the reviewers who said that SatSR was more like the Genesis games than other 3D Sonic games. Remember, Sega likes money, and good reviews help sales. I'm not posting in this thread again till we see more details (or unless someone makes something really funny).

Anyway... I was about to explode when I saw "Sonic and the Black Knight for Wii", then someone told me Unleashed is still being developed.

Though for some reason, that seems far less comforting now... <_<
