Sonic and the Black Knight

I'm still sure though, that the opening cinematics will involve some rather awkward knight-in-training (well this part not so sure; depends on how lighthearted they want the game to be) struggling/arguing to get Sonic to actually pick up and use the damn thing.

 

I've been thinking about it since the magazine picture. But then I remembered it was Shadow the Hedgehog and promptly punished myself for thinking of the game.

 

That was only in the first level, and I think he was specifically referring to guns, because it was placed right before a crate with a gun in it.

Jesus I was waiting for an epic song like this since Sonic Heroes (the best I got was I Am All Of Me, and it wasn't near as epic as the Adventure songs)
The other nearly epic songs were all made by another band/singer (Un-Gravitify, His World, etc)

 

I really don't like the guitar lick that introduces the song, though.

I prefer this version, even if it's crappy MIDI leads. The violin where Gioeli is supposed to sing sounds much better.

Everytime I think of this game, an old discussion with a friend of mine comes to my mind.

A pair of years ago a VG magazine reported a rumor of a Sonic RPG (way before Sonic Chronicles was announced) and, while my friend was playing with Sonic Adventure 2 Battle at my home, I was reading it. The thing went like this:

Me: "Hey, you know. Seems Sega is doing a Sonic RPG, kinda like what happened to Mario some time ago"
Friend: "Yeah, why not. When Sonic will wield swords! Hahahahahahahahahahahaha"

And then we both laughted, for some time, bitching with this concept.



I suddenly don't find this fun anymore.

 

About how long has Sonic and the Black Knight been in the works now?
Even with the odd concept, if they did this right it could be good, but it hardly seems like they have had the time to work on it very long, Seeing as Secret Rings was out at the end (?) of 2006. Unless they started non-stop work on this right when Secret Rings came out, but I don't think that is the case.

The box looks cool and all, but I'm beginning to wish they'd try something different than just slap 3D Sonic in the middle with bright, colorful background. This is really almost identical to the Sonic Next box. Whatever happened to that awesome painting that won the contest? They should totally go with that style from now on - heck, I'd hire the artist to do all of the promo/boxart for the game. Would probably cost a lot less and look a lot nicer. It would also fit really well, conisdering this is supposed to be one of the "storybook" games.

 

Still nothing keeping this game from being another horrible, disgusting failure. I hope the rumor about the two styles of Sonic games facing off is true, because I desperately want the Unleashed style to win. I don't know how you can get much lower than those Unleashed reviews, though... and the linear gameplay this game will inevitably deliver is bound to get better results from the press, as Secret Rings did.

I feel like the fanbase is separated into two distinct parts—the casual fans who just want to run in a straight line, and the fans who want actual substance to their levels. I'm hoping the latter wins, because if I see any more gimmicky games like this, I'm going to cry.
