I really appreciate the feedback! If you know where I could get my hands on the tabs for Tropical Resort's chords, it'd be much appreciated. I'm still pretty new to playing the guitar, but I know someone I can ask help from worst case scenario.

"I don't like the new Sonic model, it's ugly!"

"I don't like the new run animation, it's awkward!"

"I don't like how Modern's boost is nerfed so much"

Ugh you guys just DON'T SHUT UP DO YOU?!

Sorry for being so violent with my speach about that, but honestly people... you giys are all complaining about design choices Dude aas made for him mod as a whole. The purpose of this mod isn't just to have Emerald Coat in Sonic Generations; this mod is to emulate to the best of Dude's ability the Adventure experoence while also staying true to Generations, both astetically and throufh gameplay. If you take that away, you lose the identity of the mod. Every Sonic GAME has its own changes to it that define the game itself. Sonic's new drift in Gens, Adventure's overall art style compared to like CD, Adventure 2, or even 06's, and all that stuff just defines the game itself. Mini mods that appeal to someone's taste just for the hell of it isn't cool. If you don't like something about a game, you shouldn't let it ruin your day. Hell, if these games weren't moddable in the first place you'd have to deal with all of Generations' quirks. So can it!

I think I can speak for Dude in that wall of text as well.

The rest of what you said is all well and good, but I'm gonna have to stop you right there. That model is fugly as all hell, and why make an already great classic model worse for "aesthetics?" Sure, there are some other decisions he's made that I don't like, such as the strange ass italicized font used for the title cards, but as you said it's his game. That classic model crosses the line though.

But no one is letting it ruin their day. They're just removing those aspects of the mod and letting Dude know they're ugly.

Just make them a separate mod that can be stacked, problem solved. I dislike when mods have too much stuff and don't let it play nicely when stacking with others, such as some people distributing some character mods with files they clearly don't need. No complaints from anybody if that's the case, and the ones who like it will still be able to use it.

I'm sorry, but I really wasn't digging Emerald Coast Classic at all as a level. There seem to be too many parts where cheapness is thrown in, like spike pits that are underwater, or suddenly enemies after mass stretches of nothing. Give that level a spit shine because it's pretty half-baked.

The same goes for Act 2. Again, for what's supposed to be the first stage of the game, you once again went overboard with the cheap level design. We're talking nearing DIMPS levels of idiotic trick deaths or poorly sequenced events that just makes me less interested in giving this a go in the future. A shame because this is a technical marvel in looks, but plays like a lump of... you know.

I know your project goal is to capture the feel of the Adventure games, but you may be overgrasping that idea by throwing in poor level design and tedium and presenting it as challenge. One of the things that made Sonic Generations so nice to go through was how laid back the normal stages are, where most didn't even bother trying to low ball you up until about the end of the Dreamcast era (fitting!) and even then, it was done in such a manner that usually you shrug and go, "...I probably deserved that." It wasn't until the extra missions kicked in that they decided to try slapping the player around. You may need to capture some of that essence going forward. I also took the liberty of scrapping the included music tracks and replacing them with their 3DS stage variants. Windy and Ripply fits so much better as a Modern song.

Yes, this is still a work in progress and things will no doubt improve going forward, but I'm just giving you my two cents from what I played.

This. A little harsh, but true. I can see all the effort put into this, and love the visuals but it just don't "feel" right.

Hey, not bad! I think it may need a bit of adjusting, but that's a good sound... maybe I could use your help. :eng101:

PM me to let me know if you want anything recorded. If you want anything, I'll record, and send the raw files so you can master the track properly, rather than just doing a record-over job.

That bass patch has more high end than the acoustic guitar recording :|

  12. I'm curious, what kind of progress has been made outside of what's been shown? Have you started on other levels? I'm not asking for pix, vids, or a download, just a confirmation that this isn't slowing post-demo.

Just wanna toss in my two cents on the Sonic model debacle. Most of you are acting like entitled brats (hopefully you know who you are). This is Dude's mod and he can fashion it however he damn well pleases, and he doesn't have to change anything just because you say it should be so. Am I saying shut your mouths about it? No. But all that's needed is

"I don't like your choice to change the classic model." Or something similar.

Saying it's ugly and discussing how to replace it right here in the thread is really rude and shits all over the hard work Dude did. I mean, if you want to replace it, no one is stopping you. I'm not the biggest fan of it either. But a lot of the behavior shown in this thread is really disappointing to me, and frankly, it's a little embarrassing.

Yes. We're working on the second level right now. It's about 15% done. The next demo will probably come out for the next hacking contest, and we hope to have 3 or 4 levels done by then. Several bugfixes will be in Emerald Coast for the next release, even though that's a long way off. I'm not sure how much I want to keep making classic sonic levels. I don't enjoy them as much as the modern ones. I'm also not as good at designing them. We'll see though. As for a video, we'll probably make a video once the visual model and lighting get started. It really isn't worth showing off yet.

Also, we will not turn SA:Gens into a series of micromods. It's meant to be a complete package. We don't mind if you customize your personal copies (and encourage you to do so, modding is awesome) but please don't redistribute modified copies, we'd like to be known for what we made, not what somebody else hacked together. I know alot of the content in the mod isn't as good as the original game, but this is the best we can do. Seriously. If you want the mod to be higher quality, find us better artists. That being said, I'm glad everyone else has had fun with it. Ideally we're going to put the next release though more playtesting before it comes out, to avoid the hilariously broken speedruns we saw. Props to Paraxade for finding the fastest playthrough.

PM me with specific instances (screenshots and video), instead of sweeping generalizations and I'll see what I can do to make things better. I'm not making things poorly on purpose.

What? There's nothing wrong with criticism. If I came out with a hack right now that played great and had elements that looked like crap, I'd be wrong to take offense to someone telling me that it looks like crap, as long as they say what to do to make it look better. That's all anyone has been doing. Modern Sonic's animation is vastly superior to what Dude started out with, because people told him it looked awkward and bad.

There is nothing wrong with criticism, but the way a handful of people are bringing it up is really distasteful. In my eyes, anyway.

Pretty much this. I want constructive criticism. If criticism is vitriolic or vague, I can't do much with it. If you don't like artwork, do a drawover to show how it could be improved. Take screenshots and videos and provide detailed explanations of your complaints. If you don't give me enough information, I cannot reasonably respond to your criticisms, and if you're just spewing venom, obviously I'll just ignore it.
