    You tell me.

    Worst of all, Dude posted on Moddb almost two or three weeks ago, saying that there would be a tech demo avaliable, even before the Hacking Contest. ;--;

My fingers are like... Itching... Wanting to play the game.

I'm really sorry about the delay, I just want this thing to be as good as I can make it before I let it out. I've done plenty of half-ass releases in the past and I don't want this to be one of them.

Chill, broseph. We know you're giving your best in here. We're just anxious for it, that's all. But you probably know the better for your project, I'm sure of that.

Oh and I forgot to mention, we're looking for a texture artist. Contact me with examples if you're interested.

Looks pretty Decent. I mean, there isn't much to look at either. That black on the sand looks a bit weird and the palmtree should be placed a few inches down.

I could help with textures or so if I had more time in my hands, sorry. :S

The black on the sand is a work-in-progress material for blending. It'll look good later, it's just that Generations works with the Vertex color channel for doing blending(Full black=one texture, Full white=other texture).

I thought on that after I posted, just wasn't sure. Thought it would be a lighting glitch or something. Mostly because of the shape of it which looks pretty weird and very unnatural and the fact that I couldn't imagine what kind of other material could be used in there besides perhaps grass (which I don't get why hasn't been placed yet, since there is a grass material avaliable in the scene itself).

    But thaks for clarifying.

Not where I want to be.
Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
A good start, though I find Emerald Coast horrifically boring to look at from a side on perspective. Maybe you could do something to spruce it up?

I like that you've gone to the trouble of making a Classic version of Azure Blue World, unlike Jun who did little more than re-record the original. That layout is simply awesome too. Again better than the 3DS version.

I have to admit, I feel like the beginning of the track is extremely grating. I feel like the synth the track starts out with doesn't really fit with the rest of the track, like they're in a different key or something (I don't know, I'm no music guy). I really like what you're doing with level design! But I concur with what AerosolSP said, there's not much visually going on. I think some more foreground and background elements (additional rock formations, palm trees, bushes, etc.) would really help. But I'm sure you're working on the level design first, which is definitely looking good :)

  15. The starting point of Emerald Coast looked like a vacation resort. Why not add things in the background like people in hang-gliders and speedboats or whatever? Also, I really liked the little Green Hill shoutout you put in the background at one point.

I was going to comment on the same thing when I saw the video on Saturday, but I decided it wouldn't be very nice. :-)

Honestly, when I heard it, it sounded like he just took ASK's MIDI of the song and played it with a crappy soundfont. While that particular MIDI is good overall, the pitch bends he tried to replicate at the beginning completely ruin that part. Even though the rest of the song isn't as good, I prefer the beginning from Mårten Brüggemann's MIDI because even though it's less accurate it sounds better without the pitch bends.
I think the only way to make that part sound good is to either re-do it, or use a clip of that section of the song from the generations version, isolate the frequency of the guitar to try and filter out the rest then overlay genesis drums over it. I really liked some of the actual classic mixes from the game, where they still used actual recorded instruments mixed with some of the old samples and synth stuff. I hope the current track is temporary, but at least it sounded like it was. If you need some assistance in that regard, I could probably suggest some people who might be interested.

I've heard a number of complaints about the opening, and I can definitely see where it could sound grating. Honestly, I had to redo large parts of the intro anyway - plus bits and pieces of the rest - because the midi was just flat-out wrong in a number of spots (you guessed right, it is based on ASK's midi, but with a number of changes including a totally rewritten drum track). I do plan on revisiting the mix and polishing up some things, likely adding an actual guitar track (I would've done so from the start, but my guitar->PC interface has not arrived yet).

Also, there's plenty of non-Genesis sounds in the mix - drums, strings, synths, stacks. I think a combination of YouTube and low audio volume are causing some of that to be missed; here's the original track.

I really like this idea. I second it. Having people in hang-gliders would add a nice touch to the stage. Not too sure about the difficulty of speedboats unless you animate water behind it or something.

Classic Sonic starting out at the Station Square pool area would be really cool, that'd probably just require unnecessary amounts of effort though. I do agree with the resort ideas though, maybe take some nods from the Bay area of OutRun to give it some more life?

Adding Seagulls would be pretty sweet. The sounds of gulls was present in the original level, accuracy-wise you could add them in if there is a way.

An emerald hill tribute like the cork-screw in an isolated section and some emerald hill zone billboards would be amazing!
