After scouring the wiki, Google, illicit ISO-hosting websites and the like, I figure I just have to ask the forum for more info on this. I have 3 copies of Sonic Adventure for Dreamcast. One of them doesn't work because I played it too much, so we won't worry about that one. The other two I have look identical to each other when you're just looking at the discs; no "Not For Resale" or "Limited Edition" or anything. But they have one difference between them that I can't understand: the title screen. On the older copy, it is just a static Sonic Adventure logo and the "Press Start Button" text. On the newer copy, the title screen has the logo and the background has an animated "ripple" effect. Beyond this, I can't find a single difference in the gameplay. No apparent bug fixes, differences in object placement...nothing. Even my save files are compatible with both versions. (These are both legitimate, retail, not-burned copies.)

The only info that I have found that might relate to this comes from some cheat websites. If you Google "Sonic Adventure 1.1," you'll find that there are separate GameShark codes available for 1.0 and 1.1 versions of the game. I was pretty surprised to find that these revisions aren't documented on the Sonic Adventure page in the wiki. I have no idea if my copies of the game are the 1.0 and 1.1 referred to by these sites (lost my DC GameShark a long time ago, so can't test the codes). Do any of you have any info on why I have two different title screens, or what sets 1.0 apart from 1.1?

I went through numerous copies of Sonic Adventure myself and notice this difference (my first time using CD games). I think sometime in 2000 I notice a difference with the Title screen. Actually 1.0 codes work with the animated title screen one and 1.1 codes don't.

Have you noticed ANY other differences between them? Seems strange they would go through the trouble of arbitrarily changing the title screen if they weren't making some other changes as well.

Switching the Dreamcast to Japanese also shows a small difference. In the static versions it saids something under the logo and the animated version it doesn't.

I wouldn't want to be the person who labels things "1.0" and "1.1"... doesn't seem right to me.

There's at least three different versions of Sonic Adventure

-The original Japanese version (which would be the "real" 1.0)
-The US (and presumably EU) copy, which contains bugfixes and tweaks
-Sonic Adventure International, which contains more of the above

and if what you're saying is true, there could be revisions in between. Removing the neon cowgirl in Casinopolis was one of the major changes between the JP and US release, and later revisions have more language options.

I'm aware of all of these, but all of my copies are US region, and the discs/cases/manuals/etc. are all identical. I know the Japanese had some exclusive bugs like Amy using the Burger Man to get into Casinopolis, but that nor any other JP-exclusive bugs are present in either copy. None of them are "International," "Limited Edition," or anything like that. The only difference I can tell is the title screen.

Some differences with the original japanese and NA/PAL versions:

-I noticed that Sonic's feet have this blur animation when going full speed, but it's removed in the US version.
-Voice acting actually matches the mouth animations.

That's really all I can remember. I know the neon cowgirl is already mentioned and the title/menu differences.

IIRC looking at the bottom side of the disc on the inner ring you should be able to spot which version it is. I used to have 1.1 and was unable to preform some of the glitches I was able to do on my friends 1.0 copy.

Donnyku, did the 1.0 and 1.1 version have the different title screens like I mentioned?

    Welp, this.
The camera handles differently in the International/non-first press release. Significant improvement.

Beyond that and the cowgirl I can't think of any other differences off the top of my head. Been a while since I played the JP original.

Once again :v: I'm not talking about International, Limited Edition, or anything like that. These are just two otherwise identical North American copies of Sonic Adventure for DC, the only apparent difference being the title screen. I still just find it mind-blowing that there is literally no mention/reference/acknowledgement anywhere in the wiki about a U.S. version of Sonic Adventure with a non-ripply title screen.

There is a difference on the disk. The ones with the animated title screen have this number in the inner-most ring: %51000-A 29B20O

The one with a static title screen seems to have smaller numbers that are harder to read: A5 1S 91000 B IFPIL433

Also in the static screen version it saids (can't really verify this because the GD-ROM is scratched to hell) when the Dreamcast system language is set to Japanese and the game is first loaded without a VMU file selected... Something like 'International' under the logo.

The SEGA Allstars Edition uses the animated title screen as well. But the two other versions mentioned above have no difference in packaging other than what I discovered on the inner ring with the numbers that are stumped on the disc.

Is that seriously the only difference? No bug fixes or content differences? They just decided one day that the title screen was too plain and so they added a ripple effect to the disc master?

I'm going home this weekend so I'll check them out again.

The only to tell if there differences beyond the title screen is to have accurite dumps of both GD-ROMs and so methad to compared them bit for bit. Which is probally inefficent due to 1.2 GB size.

Crappy video but watch the whole way through to hear the suggestive moan-like sound that it emits when you jump against it.

That would have been cool if that was lefted it in, actually. Given that a Casino is often a mature place for adults only to gamble anyway, so it fits in.

By any chance, would the future revisions of the game happen to still have that audio clip of the "moan" in the Sound Test?

Voice samples were never available in the sound test, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't still in the game (the "50 rings for Super Sonic" voice clip was never taken out in any revision, after all).

Never knew one of the revisions changed the title screen to non animated as I've never seen it, odd choice.

*edit* oh wait the animated title is 1.1? I bought my copy launch day so I guess all the EU copies are 1.1?
