Now all we need are fixed physics and Sonic's running animation from those Generation hacks having Modern Sonic in the classic stages. :v:
I wasn't sure if I should remove the "shiny" shading textures from the bosses, in the end I kept those shading textures and lowered their gamma for the machines (the darker those textures are, the lighter the shading looks, using the default PC shading textures in the iPad textures makes the boss look way too dark), and for Eggman I replaced the 3 shades of grey from his shading texture to just a single shade of grey. For the first 3 bosses I lowered the gamma of the shading texture to 0.75, for the Mad Gear boss I also lowered the gamma of that texture to 0.75 and lowered the brightness of the machine texture by 50 (the iPad texture looks way too bright in-game), and for the final boss I lowered the gamma of the shading texture to 0.60. Results of the changes, comparison pictures between default PC textures and the edited pictures. These are lazily taken comparison pictures though, the PC version pictures might look a little bit blurry since they were already compressed to jpeg, even though it was set to quality 100. Once I'm fully done with these edits, I'll make proper comparison pictures between the default PC version and the edited iPad textures, and upload the textures to mediafire.
Since the iPad version used the same texture as the PC version for the green Orbinaut, I tried editing the red Orbinaut iPad texture, and this is the result: Which ones you guys think looks better for the Orbinauts, default PC textures (left) or iPad based textures (right)
You can't see the red Orbinaut's pupils in the iPad version... What do you guys think looks better in those textures, exactly?
My final modded texture pack: http://www.mediafire.com/?bnaja8pnb2q6a8w EDIT: Made some really small modifications to Sonic and the green Orbinaut, new pack with the modifications: http://www.mediafire.com/?u3zk664sikqvfky Comparison pictures, first is the default texture, second is the modded texture: Sonic and Super Sonic (these are the same as the gamma edited textures I posted before): Moto Bug - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/MotoBug-2.jpg Chopper - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/Chopper-2.jpg Buzzer - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/Buzzer-2.jpg Newtron (this one is using the default PC texture, the iPad texture looks too bright) - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/Newtron-2.jpg Newtron Rocket form - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/NewtronRocket-2.jpg First Boss - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/Boss01-2.jpg Crawl - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/Crawl-2.jpg Batbot (like Newtron, this one is also using the default PC texture, since the lamp looks better than in the iPad texture) - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/Batbot-2.jpg Second Boss - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/Boss02-2.jpg Burrobot - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/Burrobot-1.jpg Bubbles - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/Bubbles-2.jpg Orbinauts - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/Orbinaut-1.jpg Jaws - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/Jaws-1.jpg Third Boss - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/Boss03-1.jpg Shellcracker - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/Shellcracker-1.jpg Asteron - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/Asteron-1.jpg Slicer - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/Slicer-1.jpg Fourth Boss - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/Boss04-1.jpg Small Egg Capsules - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/EggCapSmall-1.jpg Big Egg Capsule - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/EggCapBig-1.jpg Final Boss - http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc8/ezodagrom/Sonic%204%20Texture%20Mod/FinalBoss-1.jpg
Tried to find a way to unpack and repack a CSB file, but with no success, so I tried something else, tried to mess with the SND_FX.CSB file with an HEX editor, and surprisingly some parts were in clear text, and so I managed to switch the spin dash and rolling sound effects: http://www.mediafire.com/?up3bnxq0jomgrpy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PXhXxG-85k
If I'm not mistaken, it was done before on the XBox 360 version, but I don't think anyone has bothered to do this on the PC version until now.
Wow! I just spent over an hour trying to unpack, find, and replace those two sfx files for the PC version so the spin dash had the correct sound, and just when I was about to give up I decided to go on retro, then BAM! someone found and posted a solution like literally 4 minutes prior to me seeing it! It's actually quite funny because when I saw the reply I yelled, "WOOOOW!!!!!!!!," and my parents (who were sleeping) ran into my room to see if I was okay! :v: Thank You!
Correct. Erendani fixed the SFX on the Partner.net build. Including a few physic changes among other things.
I tried to mess around with the game files too. Removed the homing attack red target and sound (but not the feature). Yes, this means no more BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP sound all around with a bunch of red targets on top of all things. This is quite pleasant to play now. http://www.mediafire.com/?ib8h7e9cqzyvenv The sound CSB file already includes the edits from ezodagrom about the spin dash (in case you are wondering). I tried to swap some animations too. While it's quite easy to do, I fail to fully assign the (superior) spin dash animation to the jump. The spin dash and jump animations are about the same. They have only 3 small differences: The spin dash uses a scaled down Sonic. The spin dash has a blue ball special effect on top of it, surrounding Sonic. The spin dash animation speed is controlled by code (it seems), and is usually much faster than the jump normal animation speed. The blue ball special effect won't play on the jump animation (it does on others), and it seems to be impossible to speed it up. You can always replace the uncurling animation with the spin dash. It works, but it's weird and you still get hit by Bubbles...
A really small modification to the textures I've posted before for Sonic/Super Sonic and the green Orbinaut. I kinda felt like something was a little bit off about Sonic, but I didn't know what. Made a little modification to the eyes, the white part of the eyes is whiter/less grey now (the difference is really small). About the green Orbinaut, only changed the spikes: http://www.mediafire.com/?i1p8l08pse62ccr
I believe this was the general for Sonic 4 "modding". my apoligies if this isn't and I bumped an old topic. Anyways, I found a neat skin mod: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCvIpNeneWU Some one got the Generations model semi-working. pretty cool if you ask me, I wouldn't mind this being blown up into a full blown classic skin mod.
I know physics will always be out of the question, but a skin mod like this + a few altercations to the level to make it less DIMPS (Take out some bubbles chains and speed pads) would make a suitable Sonic 4 for me at least. I knew I recognized that Special Stage music from somewhere. :p
