Looks like the fanboys will not be happy, then. Too bad for them! Must be cool being wrong and pushed aside. And for people going on about Episode I being remade: how about they just do not do that and make another game instead? What a waste of time it would be to remake a bad game from 2010 with barely any original content.
Simply put, there are not enough thanks in the world to thank us at Retro. However, the supposed similarities of Sonic 4.2 to Sonic Fan Remix might support what Balough says there. Maybe.
This is a good point, but it might not be the worst thing in the world to remake something cheesy into something good. However I'd rather have 2 more new levels then all of Episode 1 again. Never mind I withdraw my request.
Hmm.... They got a bigger budget, maybe this game will be better then the first! I'm now officially "cautiously optimistic" about Episode 2. Now all they need to do is prove their new physics engine is good, and I'll be happy! Although, I didn't know that episode 1 had "massive sales." Judging by how many people hated it, I thought it was a flop in sales. I must have been wrong.
Oh. I need to stop taking Sonic Retro's opinion for the general population's opinion. To be honest, I thought it was an OK game, it was a fun waste of time. But that's all it was, a waste of time. I'm surprised it sold that well.
Sonic 4 Ep 1 wasn't made for us. It was made for those people who played the genesis games back in the day and haven't touched Sonic since. They see this and are like "OMG Old Sonic" and they go for it. Thus the shameless rehash isn't so bad if you didn't play Sonic 2 just 3 days before the game came out. It's "nostalgic." Sonic Generations was made for us. And of course with more sales = more money, so they can spend more if they want.
The phantom army of millions of faithful Sonic fans always shows up when quality is brought to question. These buyers are actually casual gamers who are attracted to short-lived fads. The Sonic series (1-3) is both well remembered and popular in the minds of older gamers. You can catch them off guard easily with Sonic the Hedgehog 4. What you cannot do is hope to achieve the same fad repeatedly. People get bored and move on quickly. Look at what happened to so many series with good past reputations, such as Megaman X, Metal Slug, Guitar Hero, and so on. Competition has also changed since Sonic 4 Episode I was released. 2D platformers are more abundant thanks to games like Donkey Kong, Kirby, Mario, Rayman, Sonic Generations (self competition) and many smaller titles on downloadable services (ie: Trine 2). The market is more bloated and higher in quality than it used to be. More expectations are expected now.
In any case, listening to the complaining classic fans and people with standards is the best thing to do. Sega needn't worry about the rest of the fans, they'll loyally buy anything to do with Sonic - even a game which involves Sonic banging out a shit on the toilet.
Oh well absolutely, because if the game is quality then even people who aren't traditionally fans might buy it. But they probably weigh out the costs. Either make an ok game on the cheap and get a good amount of sales, or make a great game and get more sales, but it would have cost them more to make said great game. Of course not all of it comes down to budget, but it's certainly easier. And if they're alright with middle of the line then they'll probably be alright with consistent sales. But they knew they couldn't pull an Ep 1 again, so they had to shape up. We won't have any idea about the physics though until thursday.
This. Sonic fans will buy ANYTHING that Sega slaps the Blue Blur's face on. Even I'm gullible for doing it.
NOT TRUE. I didn't buy Sonic Labyrinth. In any case though, I don't particularly feel that we all have the same idea of "standards". Especially in the Classic Sonic fan community. Heck, you can find entire theses on "what a Sonic game should be" and still call those people crazy. Some people want open-worlds, some people want multiple characters, some people want badniks back, some people want branching storyline, some people want ALL of that; some people want NONE of that. Proof that standards are subjective. Some more preferably-right than others.
Kids making inconsistant fan games and demands on the internet does not somehow stop standards from existing. Everyone who has played the Sonic series on Genesis knows exactly what it is supposed to be like. It is not confusing at all. SEGA PR is bad with this mentality, stating that some fans want one thing so not everyone can be pleased. They should spend more time sticking to the source material. It is not a terribly difficult task.
Wait...Sega is telling us the content of their trailer before EVEN SHOWING IT? And moreso its about something we have BEGGED to be fixed? THEY ARE ON THIS GUYS.
Hadn't the uncurling been announced some time ago? Or am I just thinking of the overall physics improvements they mentioned? Either way, super excited for Thursday!
It may have been. It was the first I've heard of it personally, at least. If it's not new, well, sorry guys, haha.
Regarding uncurling in Episode 1, has it ever been explained why it was implemented in the first place?
This. Nobody would gain anything from a remade Episode 1. It would effectively be a remake of a rehashed remake.
