Oh stop saying that sonic fanbase are all whiny sissies. It's not true. Sonic fucking colors is a perfect example of that. Nearly everyone is amazed by this game because it does look good from the very beginning. But because of some obscure reason some people think that Sonic 4 have unacceptable aspects. Maybe that's because Sonic 4 actually DOES have aspects that certain people consider as results of quickie which original trilogy wasn't?
The only thing that frustrates me about the game is the auto spin on the boosters. Other than that, I was gugoobled by the absolute crisp graphics, which now make me think the 'Sonic Fan Project' is too cluttered and ugly. I am juiced up about the PS3 version, and will be for the next few months.
1. Some people were whining about Colours quite a bit too, especially initially. 2. I think you're targeting the wrong person. I know some people like this, and some people don't. I accept that. tokumaru, on the other hand, seems to think that everyone who says they like this game are trying to cover up a bad purchase, as opposed to actually enjoying it. I mean, God forbid a Sonic fan should enjoy a Sonic game.
Boy... I have to admit, well, I just finished Episode 1 entirely. Bought it, played it a couple of hours, and finished it. Even with some things here and there that I wasn't liking, I actually liked it. Also, glad that they brought Super Sonic back, that was also really nice. Special stages were okay in difficulty to me, but I did have some problems at the last one... :v:. And the final boss also caught me for quite a few times. I'm not saying that this was the best game I've ever played, but I'm going to be honest and say that I enjoyed it. And then there's one more thing to say... I gasp'd all over the place when + - I saw another character at the end of the credits , not sure if it's also shown without all the emeralds. Already excited for Episode 2.
Probably a big kick in the face to people who don't like the game is the apparent sense of perfection the game is getting among reviewers, who have been calling it 'true-to-original'. At the end of the day, professional reviewers are opinionated, and are known to make errors or hype things themselves. A lot of them last played Sonic years ago, and none of them are as intimate with Sonic knowledge as most of us here. I didn't play Sonic for 6-7 years, from age about 8 to 14, and I completely forgot how Sonic handled, and most of the details like physics, instead having an overall 'general sense' of how the games played, much as reviewers do. Then I got Sonic Advance 2, and my memory jogged. I've seen constructive criticism here though, which was very nice to see.
I had a scare this morning when my Xbox RROD'ed on me which I fixed by doing the towel trick ( Nothing was going to get between me and playing Sonic 4! ) I still plan on replacing it though, its on life support now as far as I'm concerned. Anyway, following that, I woke up earlier today when I knew it would be out and that was the first thing I did when I got out of bed; download the game. I've played though it and beaten it ( still need to get the emeralds, though. ) My general conclusion is that its nice, its not the greatest game I've ever played but I wasn't disappointed either. The physics are a bit iffy alright but they are not game breaking ( unless someone is intending to do that, I look forward to the videos. ) The final boss was completely unexpected and a bit OTT with the hit count, I most have died over 20 times trying to beat him! Took me a few goes to figure out the pattern in his pinch form and that + - I need to hit him when he does his final attack before the floor gives way. He was hard but once you have the pattern down, you'll rip it to pieces. I still need to let this sink in for a while so I'll be posting again with further impressions.
I just realized that if you click "retry" while in a Zone, you don't lose a life like you did from Adventure onward.
+ - Hit his arm as it's falling. Anyone fancy donating a save file with all emeralds (Wii)? =P SS4 on the XBOX is making me rage. For some reason, seemed a lot easier on the Wii.
+ - Stay at the opposite side of the screen to the boss. A. If the boss lifts into the air, prepare to spindash/run to the other side of the screen when he locks on as usual. B. If the boss charges towards you, charge a spindash and time it so you go under his feet. C. If the boss launches his arms, jump over it (if you're too close), and then perform a homing attack on it when it comes down. It will go flying towards him and hit him, at which point you can land a few more hits in.
"NEW Sonic the Hedgehog" :v: Just like what Mario did, While it is not a direct sequel to the classics, It takes a lot of aspects from the old and packages it in a new game. I wonder if it is too late to change the title of the game to that...
And if his arms + - hit the floor and become lodged, you can bounce on them still, and then get four hits in by normal jumping and home-attacking when he's 'disarmed' *giggles*. Also, I was in Lincs earlier, I'm not sure why that's relevent, but, yeah.
Got also All emeralds now. I like the way how Super Sonic controls. 7th didn't seem too bitch, only few places but I got it done on the 3rd try :3.
I played the game on the Iphone. I liked to play it, it was a good time. I didn't finish it yet, but a thing that annoys me though is the third act of Casino Street, it's like : "Oh, a canon, cool ! Okay, what's next... oh, another canon, why not. And then... ah, a canon ! So the next part of the level should be... why of course, a canon. Hmm. Okay, I'll try the other way than the canon, and it is... a pit that says : Lose a life and take the canon please. Oookay..." That and the third special stage is very frustrating. But the game is good, and easy to access as everything can be unlocked very quickly. I wonder if there're cheat codes with a sound test involved this time, that doesn't seem necessary.
I am not going to share my strategy for most stages but decided to show(off) my time on Lost Labyrinth and my route in a video, though bet I'll be topped once I show my strategy.
My God what a terrible game. I just played the Xbox demo for about 20 minutes, and I can't believe they really call this Sonic 4 and go with it. I wasn't even hoping for Genesis physics, I just wanted physics that WORK. I can't believe they delayed the game this long only to fix minor things. This shouldn't have been some half ass project by Dimps. This is exactly why I havent purchased a Sonic game in 4 years, its all bullshit. I really wanted to like Sonic 4 but the terrible physics, piss poor music that isn't even catchy, and big ugly porcupine man who cant emote to save his life just take away from what should have been an enjoyable game. I will be spending my $15 on another month of WoW. <div align='center'>Sorry Sega, </div>
I have got to say this is the most godawful piece of shit I have ever played, and I've played some shit in my time. The physics are so broken it's not even funny. I tried rolling down a hill to go around a loop, and ended up stood of the side of the loop without even trying. This has happened repeatedly, and even holding the direction doesn't even make it any better. The object placement is poor, particularly in regards to badniks, and the fact you can't hit Robotnik when he enters the screen is a let down. No air momentum and the forced use of the homing attack infuriated me so much that I could have actually kicked a kitten, and no game has ever pissed me off that much. Then we have the special stages, which are a fucking mess. It's hard enough to control due to the inability to make any fine rotational adjustments, but the fact you actually bounce off the walls just adds to the misery when you find yourself bouncing between walls just trying to get down a narrow opening. Also, the bumpers, overpowered, badly placed, and combined with bouncing walls just make them more of a chore than being fun. The time limit is also a lame addition, Sonic 1 didn't need them and was challenging, so why did they feel the need to add them to this when the special stages are infuriating enough already. I could actually cope with the game to a certain extent, up until Casino Street. Broken physics, forced homing attacks to start the card train, bottomless pits, Sonic actually sinking halfway into a flipper, all these things just made it a chore to play, and as of right now, I am on CSZ3 and don't think I will be playing much further, its just awful. To be honest, Sega's PR team were actually right, this is Sonic 4 as I imagined it. I imagined it'd be a godawful mess with broken physics and piss poor levels, and they delivered just that. Good going Sega, Episode 2 can go and fuck itself, this is the biggest waste of £10 I ever spent. I should have bought a bottle of vodka instead, at least then I would have got something worthwhile for my money.
