    IIRC, all of those are remedied by jumping/Spin Attack, and I'd think that Jump Hammer would do the job for those.

    That's the intention. It's just that every object in the game that doesn't have $01-$3F in its collision field (byte $28 of the SST) has to be manually coded to react to the hammer. Which is what I'm in the process of doing.

    I fixed the LBZ triggers a little earlier, but there are still some breakable walls in that zone that can't be broken yet.
     
  4. One thing that has always kinda bugged me about S3&K is that Launch Base still had that "last zone" feeling to it. It just doesn't seem like it would be in the middle of a complete game. I've always thought that it should have just 1 boss if it's a part of S3&K

    Heh, funny you should mention that, I've actually started working on some Amy sprites by editing her CD ones, I haven't really got that far though, just a larger framed animation and her spring and look-up sprites, making it for S3+K (as well as custom moves) would probably take even longer. Hayate has already pointed out her preference for the SA style one anyway.

    Anyway this is looking pretty hopeful. I liked Amy's Advance gameplay too (especially since she was one of few alt characters that wasn't just 'Sonic with more abilities).

    On-topic: This is shaping up to be a really unique hack. Customisable hacks are practically non-existent, and I know only of one hack with more than three characters (Megamix). Keep it up!

    Well, firstly, I'll try and separate Tiddles' final boss integration into a patch sometime.

    Secondly, there are two/three things I can think of doing to make the zone make more sense:

    1a. Sonic actually boards the Death Egg after Launch Base - instead of the dock exploding and falling down to Mushroom Hill, it retracts into the ship and the ship launches. Then, you can play DEZ1, crash the Death Egg, and continue with MHZ, playing DEZ2 when you get back to it in Sky Sanctuary you play act 2 and continue with the endgame.
    1b. Same as above, but you play all of Death Egg between Launch Base and Mushroom Hill, and the ending gets completely changed somehow. The final bosses could either be left where they are or moved to Sky Sanctuary.
    2. Remove all references to the Death Egg from LBZ: Sonic fights only the ball-shooting boss, then proceeds to MHZ with a different transition, the background would no longer have the Death Egg in it, and maybe even rename the zone since it wouldn't be a "launch" base any more.

    If you can supply every required sprite, I'll make a patch to put it in the game. I still personally prefer the SA style Amy, but that won't stop me making patches so other people can be happy.

    spinning is cheap, nuff said.

    Fraid it's going to be a bit slow, uni is starting up again this week, not to mention I'm currently stumped as to why anyone but character 03 dies in Knuckles' AIZ boss arenas (I've been staring at the AIZ level scripting code, and while I now completely understand how the flying battery bomber cutscene works, it certainly didn't help my original task >_<). The data select screen is also being a bitch to edit, and then I've got the Hydrocity transition to worry about.

    But meh, who says Amy has to be able to clear the game in the next release? :v:

    So did the original game, so it doesn't count. ;P

    I vote for 1a because it would be cool to have more interaction between levels. that is also why I want flying battery zone (or at least an act of it) moved to before ice cap zone, and having the ice cap snow board actually the door from flying battery, like how it was planned.

    This would be epic. But what would you do with the LBZ bosses, and how would you crash the death egg?

    Also, does this mean that Knuckles gets to play Death Egg (act 1, at least)?

    A solution might be adding a platform like it happens in MGZ, to help Knuckles reach higher places.

    Also, now that I had the chance to post something on topic, I can answer to this without feeling bad for derailing this thread:
    Don't worry, my joke avatars never last for more than a couple of days, I'll never get rid of the cat ;)

    That still doesn't work. The Death Egg is destroyed by the time Knuckles' story is over. Knuckles should just stay out of Death Egg.

    If you're planning on putting FBZ after CNZ for Sonic and Tails, you'll need a new transition for going from MHZ to SOZ.

    Maybe Knuckles punches them off the edge at the end of Act 2? Maybe, after beating the Act 2 boss, they run through the tree, only to discover it's hollow?

    Also, if Amy has the option of visiting at either point, you'll have some difficulties. Presumably, it depends on which path you take at the end of CNZ2. If Amy goes to FBZ after CNZ, you'll need a flag to make sure she doesn't go there again in MHZ - but you'll also need to SAVE that flag in the save slot, in case the player stops/dies in ICZ, LBZ, or MHZ. And where does that leave the zone order once you complete the game? It'd be much simpler and easier to force Amy to go to FBZ at one of the two arbitrarily, rather than leave the option open.

    Just a thought. Of course, it's all up to you.

    If you want to bring the Death Egg gameplay earlier, perhaps you could create an additional act solely for the Launch Base situation. It would be short and simple. Instead of fighting the grabber boss after the rocket laser one on the platform, it'll take place here. Robotnik will finally retreat, the level shakes and the player escapes into MHZ.

    No. His pair of bosses in LBZ2 and his transition into MHZ will remain unchanged for the most part. I might decide to do away with the Eggrobo bomb dropping custcene and simply have Knuckles jump off by himself, though - I've always thought that cutscene is silly.

    I've already thought of all these and I've already implemented in a way to allow such a flag. Character 04 is Knuckles + Tails. Characters 05 to 08 are Amy. If you subtract 5 from this number you get 0 to 3. Bit 1 of this number is whether Tails is present as the sidekick, and bit 0 is the route flag. This flag is set at the end of CNZ depending on the route taken, and is read at the end of FBZ and MHZ to decide where to go. Once you have a clear save, it's still not a problem, since the flag is still stored - if you start in FBZ, ICZ, LBZ or MHZ, the route will be the same as it was in the last game you played; if you start in CNZ or earlier, you can choose the same or the different route, which will then be newly stored in the same file.

    The transition from FBZ to ICZ, for Sonic, will be that he grabs onto the door and uses it as a snowboard (think Sonic Adventure 2, except with a snowy mountain instead of a city), and since the sky is solid blue at the end of FBZ and the start of ICZ, no fadeout is required for the transition.

    For Tails, he'll go into his flying animation and land on a flat piece of ground, where he can then go through a tunnel into the section just after the first of Sonic's ice slides.

    Amy will jump above the wall that is currently rolled through, and then jump off the top to land in the same area as Tails.

    The transition from MHZ to SOZ will simply be that a ramp (like the ones already present in the zone) will be placed at the end of MHZ which launches your character offscreen. After the fadeout you'll fall into Sandopolis from the left instead of from above.

    Knuckles will retain the original transitions. As will Amy if she decides to follow Knuckles' path.

    No, I want to avoid altering/creating level layouts wherever possible.

    This would be Sonic's (and Tails', and Amy's if she decides to follow Sonic's route) path through the concerned areas:

    - Fight the ball throwing boss (with the mid-boss theme; not the Robotnik boss theme - think FBZ2)
    - Use the eggpod to get to the dock area just as it is currently
    - Fight the laser boss (with the Robotnik boss theme)
    - Score tally
    - Dock is pulled into the Death Egg, screen fades out
    - Play act 1 of Death Egg, but you start standing still instead of running in
    - Fight the DEZ miniboss (with the mid-boss theme)
    - Fight the claw boss (with the Sonic 3 final boss theme)
    - The boss arena explodes, your player falls offscreen
    - You see the Death Egg fall onto the volcano (from the S&K title sequence)
    - You fall into MHZ and continue with the game
    - When you get to the end of SSZ, you immediately go to act 2 of Death Egg, but you start running in instead of standing still. From there the game continues as normal again.

    This does mean that Amy would be able to skip act 1 of Death Egg entirely and still play act 2, if she follows Knuckles' route in LBZ and Sonic's route in LRZ. I don't feel that an additional flag is necessary to remember this though - Knuckles skips both acts of Death Egg anyway.
