Sonic 3 & Knuckles: The Challenges

Congratulations, I really love it!
It's extremely well done and fun to play! ^^

 

Reduce the unlock requirements, I think final battle is probably easier than ring grab and vandal, which are f-ing hard, I partly broke my dualshock controller due to this.

 

Bodyguard 2, Tails suffered an 'offscreen death' and Knuckles drowned within a short time frame of each other, took two lives off me. Not sure if that is the desired behaviour or not, but thought I would point this out all the same.

 

Gravitation 2 isn't nearly possible for me, because, yeah, not anything is solid on Lava Reef 2.

I don't know if this is a glitch, but in Double Team if you hit a checkpoint as one character, switch to the other, and die without hitting another checkpoint, you start on the opposite path.

 

This is awesome! However, it's kinda anoying that you have to complete other challenges before being able to play other ones (I'm kinda bad at time attack-based challenges =P).

 

Update on my progress, loved that 'thing' in Hidden Palace Zone of Final Battle 1

 

No, I mean, if you hit it as Sonic, then switch to Knuckles and die on his route, you start as Knuckles on Sonic's route.

 

In the Sidekick challenge, are you supposed to lose a point if Tails goes offscreen while flying back to Sonic? I lost 2 points every time I fell behind in Sidekick 2 because Sonic wouldn't wait for the CPU to catch up.

 

This is indeed quite an awesome hack, but there are a few hang ups for me in it. Also let me state that I understand this is supposed to be a challenge hack and I know some things are supposed to be hard. Firstly in Bodygaurd it seems to me that Tails' AI is even dumber than usual and moves slower. This can lead to getting hung up in loops, or being off screen and not hitting springs which will kill you on the spot. One such terrible instance was in the Hydrocity one where tails got stuck in ball mode from one of the pipes and couldn't get out of it. Second, in Sidekick (the Sandopolis one) there are parts which if you fall behind, Tails simply can't catch up, causing you to lose multiple lives. (that one in particular I find to be broken). The other games are all good for the most part, with only Vandal seeming like it needs a lower number of stuff to break.

Any chance you could release what scores are required to get a certain rank? It helps give an indication on how well one is doing in the levels, aside from just the grades and their currently unknown ranges.

 

Strange things are happening. I was playing the game earlier, enjoying myself very much I might say, and when I come back to play it now it just won't load in Gens+. I was under the impression it wasn't supposed to work in Gens+ at all, bringing up a corrupt version of Blue Sphere or something. I think that was a Mac issue, or I am guessing it was. Any help?
I like this game, but it's so goddamn hard. I struggled on Time Attack 2, both Vandals, and both Ring Grabs. I managed to get past 4 of these eventually, and find that the new ones are, dare I say it, even harder. I don't mind too much though, it is S3K: The Challenges, after all n_n
Good job. Do hope you decide to make even more missions in the future.

 

I think I just figured out the S-Rank for Final Battle 2. I believe you have to have at least 1:30 remaining on the clock. I had A-ranked with 1:28, then S-ranked with 1:32.

 

This has been some of the most fun I've had with a Sonic game in a long time. Well done!

This is my progress so far, but seriously... fuck! All S rankings to get to the last round? Really? At least give us some idea of what we'll be coming up against if we ever get that far.
