I don't intend on making any more changes to Super music, sorry. I think the options are groovy as they are, and more options for the same thing get relatively costly for development and testing.

The original Sonic 3 cart can't convert S3K saves, but the one in Sonic 3 Complete can, because I told it to. It'll only convert the first six slots and if it's a Knuckles save, it gets tossed away.

I have a lot of SRAM to play with if I want to, unless you're using Regen, in which case I'm already using too much and none of the options menu data gets saved. (This is not a matter of Regen being more accurate; it works on hardware.)

  2. Shouldn't disabling the super music should be pretty straight forward with Game Genie codes if you're not using the customized version of the game? Of course, new codes would have to be hacked due to the game's changes (same goes for codes like debug mode).

It depends how well you want it to work. The original GG codes for S3K are good, but aren't perfect (they also block invincibility music IIRC, and don't tidy up all the odd side effects that I do). I imagine anything developed for 3C would get into similar confusion, if not with invincibility music then with speed shoe effects.

Is just having the level music sped up such a problem? It's one of those options I can never really fathom why anyone would want to change, like the super controls (at least now that you don't need to press multiple buttons at once). Sometimes I regret putting so many options in, because I think sometimes people don't give the decisions I've made enough of a chance (not that I'm saying that's true of this case). But there you go: into every life a little rain must fall.

  4. The level music's just fun to listen to at the normal speed, honestly. Especially Ice Cap and Death Egg zones - epic music!

EDIT: Is it possible for the Death Egg act 2 boss to either disable Super Tails' flickies or stop them from going after the spiked roller enemies and the boss itself? They're either always trying to attack the boss itself (hitting its bouncer) or attacking the little roller enemies you need to hit the boss with thus making it more difficult.

Have you thought about putting these in the game? They're the unused 2P sprites of Knuckles
with his abilities from the normal 1-player mode.

I want to at some point. Might need some extra frames to avoid looking terrible though - there's no clamber-over-edge or slide-along-floor sprites in that set.
It'd be nice to tidy up the 2P physics to feel a bit less stupid, too, but I don't know if I'll ever get around to that, either.

You so sure about the Knux 2P sprites? Considering the lack of sprites all around in that mode, I think the ones left over will be enough to suffice if his gliding/climbing skills ever get brought back in to the game. But that's the optimist in me. :)

Here's a question anyone can feel free to answer, just because I'm curious myself: How important do you feel it is to do anything significant to Competition Mode?

You could possibly get away with using the regular gliding ones for sliding. I worry about the missing clamber most, because Knuckles is suddenly going to jump from high on the wall to on top of the ledge without it.

Competition mode never really been too important to me, personally. Nobody uses it anyway. I almost started doing the Knuckles work a couple of releases ago when I was working with the AI Knuckles sock colours. The hilarious Desert Palace loop glitch I posted in Other Knowledge about 37 years ago that nobody cared about could do with fixing too, if Competition gets any love.

Id love to see Competition Zones become full out zones, with a Sonic 2 feel to it... unfortunately, the current S3 multiplayer has left such a dissappointing impression on almost everyone, that I don't think many people wanna see it.

  10. The only thing good about the competition zones is the music.

I actually really like the emphasis on precision that the main game levels lack, to be honest.

I too would also love to see this. Especially Chrome Gadget.

Just curious, but here's something that's bugged me. It's just a minor nitpick, but it still bugs the hell out of me.

    It's this sprite: [IMG]
The thing that annoys me is that it's with a Sonic 2 head with a bit of extra shades on a Sonic 3 body. Or it looks like it. It just annoys me, and I just can't seem to get over it. Is it possible to replace the sprite, or no?

It's just something that's bugged me quite a bit. Sorry if someone has brought it up, but it's just something I hate.

That's a great idea for a separate hack. Sonic 2 would be a pretty good base for such a hack considering the enemies and obstacles. Aquatic Ruin would be Azure Lake, Casino Night would be Balloon Park, Chemical Plant would be Chrome Gadget, Oil Ocean would be Desert Palace, and Mystic Cave would be Endless Mine. You can figure out how each zone goes together.

Yeah, the fact that Sonic 3 has a bunch of carried-over sprites like this is fairly common knowledge. That One Jig already fixed them all for this very hack, IIRC. You can probably find the discussion about it if you're interested.

That's exactly my feelings about Competition mode, actually! The mode itself is nothing special, but the levels in it seem unique enough to be turned into full-blown zones. Of course, there'd be several problems in doing this. What will the gimmicks be? What will the enemies be like? How do the graphics need to look? What will Eggman do at the end of Act 2? And, of course, What will be the actual act design?

If they did turn into full-blown zones, they would be best in another hack. Not only would it take too much effort to make them just for Sonic 3 Complete, but it would go too far against the hack's goal. In fact, new zones is probably the worst thing possible for S3C.

Indeed I have fixed them in the current release, along with other S2 leftovers in the sprites. If you want them back you could always play with Sonic 2 sprites. Regardless, there are still several very minor, nagging issues in the sprites that I have fixed up for the next release.

For the Blue Sphere mode, have there been any thoughts about making it more like MainMemory's Blue Sphere Plus?

There was some discussion on it somewhere back in the pages. I wouldn't want to deliberately replicate things from BSP, but I did always intend to do Blue Sphere save files at some point, and for the sake of Jam parity, I really should stick in a mode where you play through the original games' special stages. Neither of these are particular priorities though.

I believe I already said that I don't mind if you do copy BSP directly, I'd even be willing to help if you needed it (you probably won't).

Sounds about right. I may yet take you up on that offer of help, but I still doubt I will end up folding in everything, gracious permission notwithstanding. :)
