  1. yes, they are.

aren't they supposed to be smaller than Sonic?

Not a sprite, but more concept art for those floating Sonic heads you find that only flickies can reach sometimes.
basically an animation in a similar fashion to rings.

Abit flat, but you get the idea.

I believe so. The sonic heads look nice too.

    EDIT:

I checked the intro to compare badnick sizes with Sonic, and it seems that the enemy posted above is about 1/4 shorter than Sonic. The Catter-Killer enemy is also shown, but in a position not directly comparable to Sonic's size. Judge for yourselves:

Yes, they do. Which, somehow, reminds me, the flickies need to be programmed to give Sonic a continue whenever they collide with the Sonic head. Also, the flickies could be slowed down, making them easier to catch, although if we do it traditionally, where they pop upwards out of the explosion for a half second and then fall down, it will be even easier. Also, if someone could put together a good tilesheet, I would like to make a level map of act 1 based on synchronizer's drawing.

Can't wait to see how it turns out, GIHunter. Remember that if any more maps are needed, I would be happy to sketch some out.

So, is this officially a project now? I don't mean as a community project, but as a defined hacking project.

So far, I like what I see. MKAmeX, top quality work as usual. Synchronizer, good work too! I was wondering, would it be easier to convert the Saturn soundtrack into 16-bit or to use PCMs to leave the Saturn soundtrack relatively untouched? Again, I'm not an expert whatsoever on hacking, so if PCMs don't work in the way I've assumed then my mistake. I just thought it would be cool to play the hack with the high-quality Saturn soundtrack as is, if people preferred that. But if it's an unattainable goal or doesn't show enough support within the community then never mind, haha.

making cool music no one gives a shit about
If we're basing the hack off Sonic 2, a temporary solution would be to use that Sonic 2 MP3 Tool that was released a few years ago.

No. Direct SMPS ports would be the most time conserving answer. Sure, you guys could have a stab at converting S3D Saturns's soundtrack to SMPS, but good luck making it sound good. Anyway, the Megadrive version had a better soundtrack, which certain songs were used in later games.
Focus on gameplay, and port music directly from the megadrive version, rather than making it harder for yourselves.

Anyway, so far, I'm liking the ideas for this game. It'd be something nice to have on my PSP to carry around with me. =P

If we're coding from mostly scratch, it doesn't seem that porting to SCD would be a really bad idea, and then you could use the CD audio, but it would be fun to try to make genesis versions of those songs.

Would the Flickies be scattered around like Chao in Rivals 2 AND come out of badniks?

I swear I'm the only person on the planet who thinks Richard Jacques' soundtrack is MILES better than the Genesis one - which has several pretty poor choices of voices for the melodies and even has a few really unmemorable tunes, like the Special Stage or Spring Stadium.

Not to say it's completely terrible - I do rather like Diamond Dust and Volcano Valley - but Jacques' is better overall.

However, it's really way too early to argue about the music, innit? Let's get the game itself designed and argue over whether the Saturn or Genesis version has a better soundtrack later.
