Sonic 2D Blast?

    Since I am taking a high interest on this idea, I guess I could help out with the badnik sprite design, if it's not already taken. I would love to assist with this project.

    I've had a thought for a while about special stages. I know you need to talk to Tails or Knuckles, but...

    If you are running at X speed, hitting the card will cause a layer swap and you will run up the wall to the big ring. if not, you will continue off screen. Sound any good?

    ignore the "bad card" thing.

    Flare: That does look pretty cool. Also I can't help but think the Carnival Night boss is more like the one from Green Grove than Star Light.

    Uh, the special stage entrance would be easy. Make a new Starpost object, that uses Tails/Knux art.

    No need to do something so different from the origional game.

    I would suggest that once you give Kuckles or Tails some rings, that a counter either appears or is already present detailing the ammount of rings you have given them. Also, some stabs I have taken at some of the badniks:

  10. The mine looks rather nice! I don't see anything that could be improved upon!

    The purple spike thing, on the other hand, could use more work. The original looks kind of like a purple spring, while yours looks much more like a drill than anything.

    For the crocodile bot I think you're still deriving too much of it from the prototype Sonic 2 enemy; the Sonic 3D [Blast|Flickies Island] crocbot doesn't open its jaw nearly as wide as the open in the sprite that you've made.

    Nah, just have a variable in memory that remembers how many rings you've given the character. It's a bit more complex than a starpost with new art, though.

    When it comes to the mine, I think it's great except that the central portion should probably bulge more. SoNick has the right idea for the purple spike thing. The crocodile's eyes are not realistically placed in Sonic 3D, but are sticking out on top of the head This should be done in the 2D sprite. Perhaps something like this?

    Plus, it's just an idea. Tails/Knux would be fine, but hey, staying faithful to the original is what we're about right? It's okay, maybe the Sonic retro team would want it... :)

    Okay, I made some changes to the crocbot and purple spike.

    Purple spike: I took off the corner spikes of the ball to resemble the actual thing more, more indentions
    [​IMG]
    Crocbot: I gave him only 2 spikes on his back, like the real thing, used Synchonizer's right eye, added another, similar eye in the back, and made his mouth less open.

    ...so, uh, what's the big deal about not using are from the original game? Talking about how bad Sonic Blast was makes no difference, unless we're going to be using its engine. We won't have those bugs (well, not all) in a hack, will we? :)

    The point is that the game was fundamentally flawed as a whole. I don't even know why we're discussing this. Just get those thoughts out of your head—it's not going to happen.
