  1. Ok, I was in a rush and accidentally saved it as a JPG.

It isn't a final version, needs rendered, and made un-gay-JPGified. just an idea. More later.

Hey there, guess this is the first of my trial posts.
This is a pretty cool idea for a project, and I actually made a series of hoaxes based on this idea, that some of you may possibly have seen over at Sonic Vegemite. Anyway I just thought I'd post them here to see if I could be of any use art-wise for the project.

A lot of the scenery is taken from other Sonic games, but some of it I did by scratch myself.

    Well here goes;

    Green Grove
    [IMG]
Admittedly, this does not exactly recreate how GGZ looks (yes I know the AIZ palmtree is the wrong choice), but with the background I was trying to show Rusty Ruin Zone in the distance. Well, I hope you like the Caterkiller-thing anyway :P

    Rusty Ruin
    [IMG]
This one's a bit messy, but I think I did a decent job of recreating the eery atmosphere. If you can't tell, Sonic is on those spinny platform things that let him break pillars, and here you can see he's doing this to get to the Crocbot.

    Spring Stadium
    [IMG]
I did try doing this with an indoor background, but it proved kind of frustrating. Let's just say this is a brief outdoor section :P

    Diamond Dust
    [IMG]
Was pretty pleased with this one ^^

    Volcano Valley
    [IMG]
Yeeeahh...this was a bitch to do but I think it came out pretty damn well. Does it recreate the look of VVZ well enough, do you think?

    Gene Gadget
    [IMG]
    Background's a bit of a mish-mash I know...

And I never got round to doing Panic Puppet, but this topic might give me motivation now :P

Well, let me know what you think anyway, just thought I'd show them.

Do you know if a version exists for powerpc macs (10.4.11 specifically)? Please link me to it. I would be extremely grateful if I could try out Knuckles Chaotix, and Sonic 2D blast if it ends up on the 32X. Thanks.

Sonic Blast was one of the most horrible games I've ever played. I did enjoy Sonic 3D Blast, even though it was SO not what I had expected it to be. Of course at the time, I was expecting Sonic X-Treme for Chistmas when it was advertised in a 1996 Christmas Wish Book, I think it was from Sears or something.

I like Titan and synchronizer's concepts. They've captured what I had in mind perfectly. That is what I meant, haha. If I had those skills I probably would've done so myself. :(

For the Caterkiller, I was thinking of the CPZ Slime thing that acts in a similar way. Maybe we can look at that code?

I was thinking the same thing too, but aren't those Chemical Plant enemies indestructible? The head would have to be made the weak spot somehow.

Beggar Prince doesn't, you're thinking of Pier Solar.

As far as I'm aware, there's bits of it still written in x86 assembly so it can't be compiled for PPC - Gerbil can confirm this either way but afaik the answer is no. If you're using a Mac that has PPC, Steve Jobs probably would have expected you to buy a new one by now =P

Yeah, it's got a ton of x86 asm right now, so it won't work on PPC. I'm working on converting the asm to C/C++. (Some portions will remain as x86 asm, I.e. renderers, but will have C++ fallbacks for other systems.)

In other words, sometime in the future, I will be able to run the emulator? If so, I will be looking forward to it. :(

Ah, I thought I got it wrong but couldn't figure out what I WAS thinking of.

Anyway if this shit isn't prerendered then I really do think it's kinda' pointless overall -- the other art is not very interesting overall.

I know this is somewhat off-topic, but I never really liked the cheesy end theme song for the Saturn S3DB soundtrack... for some reason, I always thought Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden's ending theme fit it better.

I've provided a Rapidshare link if anyone wants to give it a listen... I'd suggest giving a listen to some of the Saturn tracks to see how it fits in.

POWER - Jam Project (Super Robot Wars ? Gaiden Ending Theme)

Here's some YouTube links for some S3DB Saturn tracks:

    Volcano Valley - Act 2

    Rusty Ruins - Act 1

    Diamond Dust - Act 1

    Boss Theme

    Title Screen

Opening Video (sound is a little off-synch)

It's a pretty good song, but I would prefer to use the Title screen music for the Saturn soundtrack credits. It's the same song, but faster and without the "chessiness." If it is too short, perhaps we just add a verse with the octave a little higher.

Glad you like 'em Soselocke :)
I'll get to work on Panic Puppet soon. And I guess I could try my hand at Final Fight too...

Here's a collection of enemies and obstacles from 3D Blast for reference with descriptions (all stolen from TheGHZ):

    - These mines explode into a shower of damage-inflicting projectiles when approached.

    - Bee bots that hover slowly along the ground in erratic patterns, but pick up speed and give chase if approached. They hold pink Flickies.

    - Purple turd-looking bots that stand in place and rotate stupidly. Each one is guarded by a single spinning mace, making them difficult to hit. They hold blue Flickies.

    - Caterpillar bots that leap between holes in the ground. Only their spikeless noggins are vulnerable to attack. They hold red Flickies.

    - Gator bots that trod slowly along the ground in a straight line. They hold green Flickies.

    - Bee bots that fly in jerky, erratic patterns along the ground. They hold blue Flickies.

    - Spider bots that crawl slowly along the ground in a straight line. They hold green Flickies.

    - Dragonfly bots that fly in jerky, erratic patterns along the ground. They hold blue Flickies.

    - Blowfish bots that fly through the air in a straight line. They can't be damaged when inflated. They hold pink Flickies.

    - Crab bots that roll slowly along the ground in erratic patterns, but pick up speed and give chase if approached. They hold red Flickies.

    - Snowman bots that slide in square patterns along the ground and fire damage-inflicting snowballs from their hats. They hold frozen blue Flickies: spin the ice cube to free the bird.

    - Penguin bots that waddle slowly along the ground in a straight line. They hold green Flickies.

    - Rabbit bots that pogo along the ground in erratic patterns. They hold pink Flickies.

    - Ladybug bots that roll slowly along the ground in erratic patterns, but pick up speed and give chase if approached. They hold green Flickies.

    - Wasp bots that fly in jerky, erratic patterns along the ground. They hold blue Flickies.

    - Bat bots that fly through the air in a straight line. They hold pink Flickies.

    - Scorpion bots that crawl slowly along the ground in a straight line. They hold red Flickies.

    - Immobile octopus bots that turn their heads to follow Sonic, firing blobs of damage-inflicting blue ink. They hold red Flickies.

    - Mouse bots that roll slowly along the ground in erratic patterns, but pick up speed and give chase if approached. They hold green Flickies.

    - Spider-like walker bots that crawl along the ground in a straight line, firing projectiles in the 4 cardinal directions. They do not contain Flickies.

    - Chopper bots that hover around in jerky, erratic patterns. They do not contain Flickies.

    Also, here's the different bosses:

    Green Grove Zone Boss
    [IMG]

    Rusty Ruins Zone Boss
    [IMG]

    Spring Stadium Zone Boss
    [IMG]

    Diamond Dust Zone Boss
    [IMG]

    Volcano Valley Zone Boss
    [IMG]

    Gene Gadget Zone Boss
    [IMG]

    Panic Puppet Zone Boss
    [IMG]

The Final Fight - Final Boss
    [IMG] [IMG]
The final boss attacks in five stages which after defeating him, all are repeated again:
Stage 1: Fires laser rays from its fingers.
Stage 2: Fires puffs of flame from its nose. The flame chases Sonic around the arena for a few seconds before dissipating.
Stage 3: Attempts to smash you to death with 2 detached hands on a narrow arena. Get out of the shadows before the hands slam down. After 3 attempts, the hands will fly to either edge of the arena and sweep the floor with a dash attack.
Stage 4: Fires off a series of aerial missiles which rain back down onto the arena wherever Sonic is standing.
Stage 5: Fires a gun that sweeps the arena with ricocheting projectiles.

When it comes to that blow-fish enemy, use the AI of the Sonic 3 badnick in Marble Garden that pretty much does the same thing. Looks to me that Eggman's Egg-o-matic looks like it can be converted using an edited Sonic 1 sprite.

In fact, the Green Grove boss is pretty much the one from Starlight Zone, but without the see-saws, and instead, Eggman comes down to pick up his spike. Here is a link to that boss's sprite sheet:
