This game is such a cut above other more extensive hacks because of the incredible amount of quality. They really thought this hack out the whole way, no corners cut. The sprites and animations are so well done they're indistinguishable from official assets. That's why it's getting such mainstream attention. It's not just some near experiment, it's a completely fleshed out product.
I noticed a sprite that looks like a donut on the spritesheet, why didn't you change the rings to donuts? That would have been funnier, but nonetheless I still love this hack. The farthest I made it to is ARZ2. Dx

Donuts are more fattening than onion rings (even the giant variety!) I assume that you made the rings look closer to normal to give new players a shock? Because it worked on me. :-p
Nah, we were deciding between Donuts and Onion Rings, but we stayed with the Onion Rings because they are still "rings", and I liked the wordplay.

I don't know if it's been said, but you gotta love how "Y SO SRS" the comments on the UK Resistance article are. Some people just wouldn't know a joke if it took a lightsaber to their nether-bits. Bah. Cool hack, by the way. Cracked me up. Haven't had time to play much, but I can imagine the lulz that will ensue when I do.

In fact I only know the Onion Rings because Burger King sells it here. But, Burguer King isn't common here either. They frequently mistake by "golden donuts". Anyway, very good hack sir
I found a hilarious bug: if you get morbidly obese and have just enough momentum to carry you to a ledge, you perform the skinny "almost falling anim" but you're stuck cuz you're fat so you just sit there looking all skinny like until you die of obesity. irony.

Another thing, do the bumpers (those that disappear after three hits) in Casino Night make Sonic fat? I remember. He got fat sometimes without touching any onion ring.

It was a HUGE ripoff of Sonic (springs, loops, spikes, fast paced level design) that when you eat unhealthy food you got slower and fatter. However, that game allowed you to stop and do pushups to get yourself back to a skinny state. It used to be here, but now seems to be currently 404'd, sadly.
Archive'd version
no wai I saw this listed on a flash Sonic games compilation website. thought nothing of it; it looked lame. I've noticed a bug in 2 PLAYER VS Mode. When you die, your sprite returns to normal, but your physics remain that of your current obese state. Your state changes normally based on your current physics and your sprite changes normally based on your current sprite, but they never sync up on their own. You still have access to the spin dash, even if your physics are max obese. If you collect enough onion rings for your physics to go to max obese, you lose the ability to move, and all you can do is turn around in place, jump (you have zero air control), and spin dash. If you jump while spin dashing, you don't suddenly stop, instead you just keep going forward like normal. And last but not least, if you collect enough onion rings to go past max obese, you start to gain speed, but if you jump in the air and hold a directional, you go in the opposite direction.
