Bump huh? I've been planning to update this soon. I've added some new stuff so expect something soon!

As of now yes this is a Sonic 2 remake. Originally, it was just to show case act transitions. It'll probably go beyond just a remake, but for now that's what it is. :argh:

    Hey, that worked! Thanks!
@ Megaphilip: Don't know why it was doing that for you, but it has been fixed in the updated version That will get released sometime in the near future.

Your welcome. ;) I understand I have a early test version of it. But can I ask why have you disable the level select? :)

If you are referring to the version posted somewhere on page 2, he changed the level select code to 1, 9, 8, 2.

    Hands off, he's mine.

Back on topic, this hack is very nicely put together and has a lot of potential, I look forward to seeing more of this.

Apparently he must have changed more than just that. While that code works and it gives you the paused-game options like reset/frame advance, holding A and pressing start doesn't send you to the level select menu.

Oh wait... He did the Sonic 3 thing. Press down from the options menu on the title.

    EDIT:

I'm noticing that the insta-shield is completely useless against the big mech in DEZ. That deliberate?

I thought I'd try it this way. I like it better!

No, it's a bit buggy around that boss. It may be fixed now, but I'm not sure.

Just curious, but why did you cut the 2P Vs. Mode? Sonic 3 has a 2P Vs. Mode. Did you perhaps find it too tricky edit the layout for the 2P stages so that they would be short and loop? Or what?

Well Sonic 1 only is so big. While it is a little possible to add 2 Player mode, the rom itself doesn't have the special split screen algorithm.

  13. Ok I noticed a bug on Emerald Hill act 2, After you've defeated Robotnik and opened the eggpod. When you fall off the bridge you die and get sent back to the checkpoint before you fight Robotnik.

I say this in advance: my post is off-topic.
The main game code runs on the 68000, the sound driver runs on the Z80. When one of the two processors freezes, the other one will keep on working. So you can have music in a frozen game, or a working game with frozen music, accordingly.

    ...O.o But it's Sonic 2... O.o

I'm sorry, I'm confused by what you mean exactly. Please clarify if you can.

I am at a loss for words of how dumb I sounded. I looked back and noticed it was in fact Sonic 2, making my previous comment outright stupid. Happens to the best of us, I guess. :P

    Fair enough.

But to repeat the question (since our thoughts have somewhat strayed from it): Alriightyman, did you find it too difficult to remake the Sonic 2 2P stages as Sonic 3 style 2P stages? Or perhaps you just didn't want to bother with it? I don't know, you tell me (that is, if you so wish, of course.)

  19. Sonic 3's 2P stages are drawn small. Sonic 2's 2P stages use 16x8 tiles to scale down to the size of the screen.

No, it's not that it would be too hard or anything, it's just that I never liked the 2 player modes and felt I should get rid of it. Plus it helped free up a lot of RAM. Just so everyone understands, I have no desire to put or add a two player mode into this hack. :psyduck:
