^Probably because I designed that game years ago. Just a hunch, though *shrugs*. Also because the better levels from Turbo have been rearranged for this hack. The Intro level is a makeover of New Adventure, and the front half of each act of Chemical Plant uses the layout from acts of Construction, only with the paths crossing in different places so that no single path leads you directly to the end like it did in the old game.
I like what I see! It's a solid improvement over the last release in terms of content, and I like the new musical choices you've made—for example, the edit you did to the Hot Crater I gave you was very inventive, and I very much enjoyed your improvements on that one NiGHTS tune you used in the second act of Cascade Valley as well. The layout changes were pretty drastic, but they make the level feel much more vast. Very cool stuff. I'm a bit iffy about the intro level, though—I think it's too similar to Cascade Valley. Maybe this is the point, but I think some slower, more repetitive music could cover the intro theme a bit better. Mikel used a few tracks from Crayon Shin-Chan in his hack Sonic Zeta Overdrive, which fit rather well—maybe you could do the same? A nice, laid back tune with a calm, surrealistic tone is just the touch you need, I think. All in all, though, this only make me more excited for the eventual completion of this hack. Keep up the fantastic work, and I hope to see more soon!
This hack is great! It's obvious from Sonic Turbo that your layouts are fantastic and your music isn't bad. The jump dash is perfect for a few areas in the game, although this feature is becoming a bit of a favourite in hacks nowadays, if you know how to code it. Keep it up!
Ah, this is perfect, but I can't beat the Casino Night boss. I'll keep at it though. Great hack, good job!
Ah! Yes! I enjoyed this hack very much and it's fun. Sure the Casino Night was quite hard, but I did it after a few tries. I forgot to collect all the emeralds. Whatever, I'll try it later again. Keep up the good work!
I liked it, although I think this is a bug. I got hit by those spikes, and I was then able to get pushed up into the wall without dieing. I fell out when the floor went back down though. Also, to people having trouble with the Casino Night boss just bounce up to the right bumper and bounce on it onto the boss. You can stay on there without falling if you time your jumps right.
^ Damnit, I forgot about that bug. :P And yes, what Polygon Jim suggested is the intended way to attack that boss. For whatever reason, the boss gets a very long pity invincibility after the first hit (in the original Sonic 2 as well), but after that, you can bounce on him for several hits in a row without falling below him. Expect to have to know a few tricks come later levels... I know a few people never figured out the meaning of the left arrow in Wing Fortress in my old hack, and I've a right mind to keep that part of the level when I make a layout for this hack. X) Also all of these people claiming to have finished it, and nobody's said anything about the credits sequence; I'm surprised. Or is cheesy the new awesome?
This hack kicks so much ass I don't even know how to describe it. That Casino Night edit is just incredible.
I love it. Awesome layouts. One problem-Cascade Valley A2 has alot of lagging issues, for me. Btw, noobish question; for the intro level, what is the song? It sounds so familiar-yet I cant put my tongue on it.
Since he remade Leaf Forest, maybe he could use the beta version in that trailer, It's much slower. Also, why does this song in chemical plant sound so much different than the original? I know the song was used on 32x and this is megadrive/genesis...but can't you use the sonic crackers track? I think it sounds better than the Chaotix version too.
It's leaf forest from Sonic Advance 2. Took me longer to remember that Sonic World from Sonic Jam was the music for Cascade Valley 1.
Well, that is an excellent hack, the layers are awesome, the different remixes are good as well. Looking forward to news about this hack...
The hack is amazing. I only played the Intro and Cascade Valley zone. The music is great, the layers and palettes are magnificent and the levels are really fast. Great job!
I just recently played this on HackTube, and I must say that your level layouts are absolutely awesome. There are SO MANY alternate paths, it blows my mind. Every area is completely interactive in layout, if you think you know where your going, you may soon find that jumping changes that. I enjoy how absolutely non-linear it is.
well this hack is cool, all of the levels layouts are nice. I stopped playing afer casion night and thought this was great. Casino Night layouts was confusing at some points but, I finsh the llevel with ease. THe boss was to easy, maybe adding a pit in the middle would make it more challenging. THe rest was cool and the music was cool also. I wish tails was playable though but its cool.
No, not really. If you try to let it play itself, you get stuck. Just because it has intuitive layouts doesn't mean it plays itself. Seriously, I've played through the first world (After Intro Zone) about 15 times and I've never gone the exact same path. There are some places where the game gives you insane speed, but it's balanced well with places that require platforming.
Seconded. I attempted to play the game on fast forward earlier, and I found myself having a hell of a time getting through by just holding right. There are a lot of different places to go, and it's far from entirely linear as you claim. Hell, I challenge you to find all of those emerald monitors by just holding right to get through the level. Not only will you not be able to beat through the first level (and I mean the first level, not the intro stage), but you sure as hell won't be getting the Chaos Emerald for that act. It's just not that clear-cut. That's what I like about the layouts in this hack—they're very well thought-out, fun to play through, and have a good sense of variety. It's no Sonic CD, admittedly; then again, though, I wouldn't want it to be. I like it just the way it is.
