Wow, great job! Happy to see you guys are going above and beyond while staying true to the original. Even if those flowers weren't in the original game it will certainly be better off for it, and help distinguish HTZ. I think these assets look amazing, and it's nice to see the quality hasn't diminished! If this project has ever proved anything it's that you can't please everybody at once. Some people just need to accept that Sonic 2 HD isn't catering to them personally. I for one could not be happier, this is GREAT, what an perfect balance of artistic liberty, it suits the original aesthetic!
Don't worry, it's a preview. Designed to show off the animation rather than use it practically - we didn't use the in-game frame delays or loop points for these gifs. Cheers for some positive + constructive comments already guys! Always good to hear.

I'm pretty damn impressed. Sonic 2 has always been my least favourite, visually, out of the original games. It would benefit the most from this sort of great makeover (not that the others wouldn't have course). Looking forward to seeing more.
Without looking through10 pages to see if this has been asked already (sorry), are you/will you be using any of the assets that have already been done [which fits the look] from the Archives? I'm hoping that my monitor animation that I did the first time around when this was being made will still be used
All the art you saw completed from the (discontinued) Alpha release will be in this new version of the game. So a lot of sprites we already have from that, the monitor being one of them. Hopefully when you lot see new screenshots it should clear any confusion.
By chance would the team behind this consider updating the Death Egg in this game to that of the design in Sonic Generations? I honestly prefer that design to the basic "slap Robotnik's face on the Death Star" look. Besides, the only time you really see it is in the Level Select, where it looks oddly incomplete.
I would really rather not S2HD take any cues or direction from the modern games, regardless whether or not they're "updated". Any new interpretations of the original art were handled by different people with their own subjective interpretations, and the modern games have their own aesthetics and stigma attached to them. Let S2HD be a pure extrapolation of what it was without any influence or interference from that.
The main (if not the only) references we take are from the OA of the Genesis / MegaDrive era. Anything else tends to be custom artistic license. Basically, we won't do a re-design of a redesign of the original.
Fair enough, then might I direct attention to my post in the Supreme Topic of 'Other' Knowledge, which notes that the Death Egg looks as if it's still under construction in the Stage Select and ask if that might be of interest to the project, since it's the only shot of the Death Egg in Sonic 2?
http://sonic2hd.blogspot.com/2014/11/inside-artwork-new-sonic-animations.html These animations are quite comical.
They have one hell of a talented animator. The new animations look gorgeous. Awesome we're also getting regular updates like this too.
I'm really glad this project was revived and I'm impressed with everything done so far, but could you guys go back to older blog entries and fix the broken images? It's really unfortunate that a lot of the images for older blog entries no longer work.
A lot of the images on the blog are still broken, which looks really bad. Also, the newest update looks nice. My only complaint with the art is something always looked a little off on how you guys portrayed metal, but I'm not sure what about it seems off to me.
Good work. The CPZ boss is beyond fantastic. Seriously good. The Grounder badnik is good but I think the gradient on the metal makes it look too shiny. The Catapult is also good and needs no changes. Excellent progress! Looking forward to the future (and hopefully regular) updates and really excited to try the next demo. So glad the project has resumed and is being heavily worked on. The above image is proof that there's some serious talent behind it. Hopefully you guys will continue to make positive progress and a new playable release is not too far into the distant future.
If I wanted to be a backseat driver, I'd suggest adding a bit more detail, like subtle scratches and oil or something. Looks alright as it is though, especially the Grounder.
