Not sure how taboo is this subject here now a days since our....history with the matter. but if the mods don't feel like its a topic worth continuing feel free to close it.

    From their official Facebook:

So hopefully this time around is more prosperous then the last time. but we'll see...

inb4 I get ninja'd out of having the first post.

There was quite the crapstorm in the past, but hey, no hard feelings here with me! :v:/> Nearly the whole team were great people, I've got nothing against them.

So I'm excited as a rabbit in a cabbage patch that this project is back on its rails! I'm also glad there are multiple programmers this time too. That's going to be ideal for redeveloping the technical side of things again.

  3. HOLY SHIT. I didn't think this was ever returning.

    I can't wait for this!!!

I'm really glad to hear this project is coming back. That events that led to it being cancelled were so unfortunate. Here's hoping all goes well.

Because this game is a port of an existing game, it probably would have been fine to have the art team just get 100% of the art done first then seek a programming team afterwards. Sure it makes a demo take longer to appear but it would have also gotten one of the major development stages completely knocked out. There wouldn't have had to have been a falling out with one team or another because the other team wouldn't have been formed yet.

In the wake of the Stealth/Tax ports, I feel the existence of a Sonic 2 HD is... unnecessary. But in my lack of investment, I leave myself open to be pleasantly surprised!

I think feature-wise, the HD port would have quite a few things to top, but the whole point of the remake is to beautify the game and bring it into the HD space. Other things like online play, Hidden Palace, and the infamous spike pit, might be secondary goals, but nobody inside the team has said what they're planning yet. Lord knows what they'll do with Casino Nights Zone alone, I can only imagine how incredible that will look.

That's an interesting idea, but it's also important the programmers and artists are on the same page with each other as well. For instance, depending on how they want to revisit the background art for each zone, some things may need amending or reworking in the assets to work with the engine, or the artists may suggest new features for the engine. I'm being horribly vague, but you probably get the idea.

Well, this wasn't anything I ever expected to happen. It's funny how it was announced on the same day as Sonic's birthday, too. Hopefully this won't completely fall apart again like it did last time.

About finishing off all the art assets first: You also have to understand that it kind of was an era where projects rarely ever get completed. You'd be hard pressed to find a bunch of people who want to put a shit ton of effort into something that might not ever see the light of day other than pretty mockups.

Or maybe this is an opportunity for Wood Zone to actually be something more than those few chunks.

I'd have to disagree on that first part, since said upgraded ports aren't yet available on PC (if they ever will be).

I like the way you guys think.

I'm definitely excited to see this make a return. Hopefully there won't be any major mishaps this time.

And please, please don't spend forever on artwork again. The amount of time it took to have assets made was ridiculous.

Even if the asset looks mediocre, at least use it as a placeholder or something before a new one is made. Just don't repeat last time.

    haha what the hell

I was totally convinced that the project was dead for good and thought this was a joke at first. I'm wondering how different things are going to be development-wise, since I remember creating/finalizing art being a slooooooow and contentious process.

Not really holding my breath on this, but I guess we'll see.

    Games programming :)
Awesome! This project was the reason I signed up to this site all those years ago! I would absolutely love to assist in programming but unfortunately game studios are a bit iffy with letting their staff work on outside projects :(/>

Sonic (?): Coming summer of 2055...?
Good for them. But I don't really care anymore. Maybe that will change.

Cautiously optimistic. Apparently a lot of the crap came from L0st and weird team organization. They apparently have three programmers now and a better sense of organization, so... might actually result in something getting done before 2016 :v:
