    Well, researching scroll in N.A. beta I noticed, that places where are would been clouds at sky and water uses the same deformation speeds and literary doesn't moves:

    Ofcource, maybe it's because it's empty spaces, but anyway looks interesting.
    Also, here is the one bg chunk:
    3453.PNG
    As you can see- he end above that little hills, which wasn't presented at mockup.
    So, it wasn't hard to recreate this:

    Btw;

    Interesting theory, but I'm not sure, cuz multiplayer was on REALLY early state of development.
    But as fact, in final- his monitor slot was occupied by teleport monitor

    Technically, it's just interlaced mode, which is normally how CRT TVs work in general. So it's still only showing 240 lines per refresh, but it alternates between odd and even line fields. The oddity is more in how 240p game consoles worked, they tricked the TV into using the same field at all times in order to have full 60fps motion albeit at only half the perceived resolution. It's therefore not truly progressive scan, but it's close enough in practice.

    I believe only 4 games total used the interlaced mode, Sonic 2 being the more popular example. I wish more games used it for detail...

    I wish the 32X supported the mode. It's pixel writing speed sucks, but the frame buffers aren't the only thing it's good for.

    A game on the Sega CD with 480i title screens, streamed levels, and non-FMV cutscenes. Imagine the fucking dream :eng99:

  9. Huge theory i have is the P2 Results Track may have been composed for the Wood Zone. It has a Jungle/Forest feel, Moreso in the Demo Version.

    I feel like since Wing Fortress Zone wasn't included originally. Maybe it's track was gonna be for a cutscene sequence

    What's the most confusing to me is what track was Cyber City going to have? There isn't many songs in the game that could fit the mood of the stage.

  11. Death Egg Zone possibly is my guess, If somehow the Death Egg wasn't originally planned for when Sonic 2 had it's time travel plotline, It has a similar vibe to Scrap Brain Zone in Sonic 1. Which is how i picture the zone to look like. I still don't think CNZ's P2 Track fit Oil Ocean, I wanna say it also could been used for Genocide City Zone. Has a City vibe to it with a menacing feel.

    I also think the "Sound Test 10" track was originally meant for the ending. The Demo Version has a more triumphiant feel to it. & The way the Demo track has a proper grand finish sounds like something for the end of the game.

    I theorize the P2 Results Track was actually composed for a save file selection screen similar to Sonic 3. There's no way the game would've shipped 17 levels without some kind of password or save system.

    I agree, but you would think there would be some remnant in a document. A save system seems pretty complex, and I doubt it wouldn't be written down or leftover code if that was the case.

    I wondered about it playing after breaking open the capsule after the act 2 boss before. Nothing to back that up except that would be a great place for that track to play. :oldbie:

  15. Actually i strongly believe the final boss theme was gonna originally be for Genocide City Zone originally.

    The Sonic 3 prototype didn't have any remnant of a save system anywhere in its data either. I imagine that's a feature that wouldn't be implemented until late in development. So late that, by the time it would've been time to make it, the Sonic 2 devs probably didn't deem it necessary as so many levels had been cut.

    Sega was not as quick to pay for additional hardware to provide saving capabilities to games as Nintendo was. That's why Kid Chameleon is how it is (although the developers could have implemented a password system).

    I always felt of all the Sonic games to get one, Sonic 2 more than any should have had saving functionality.

    Edit: I don't like when you type something, decide to disregard it, go to reply to something else, and your old text is still in the text box.

    It is in game already in Simon Wai proto, and not used by any level

    Password system seems interesting idea, and I thought about it earlier, but we doesn't know it as fact. Anyway, good theory

  19. I do actually want to see a Sonic 2 Hack with a Password system now… sounds interesting and fun!

    This has no factual basis and is purely what first comes into my head when I hear the music. So I don’t expect anyone to agree.
    My personal feelings on what music went where would be this;
    Cyber City- CNZ 2P music
    Sand Shower - ARZ music
    Winter - Sky Chase music
    Aquatic Ruin - Mystic Cave 2P music
    Wood - EHZ 2P music
    Hidden Palace - Track 10 looped version
    Death Egg would’ve stayed as it is in final as a prelude to the last fight.
    Wing fortress would’ve either been used for a cutscene or an act 1. Honestly have no idea as I could see it being either for a giant ship or a space station over the earth.
