That box art might be a hoax, unless the second E in Hedgehog always looked like that =P

Sega has finally released a bit of new information on this port. Apparently it will have a different soundtrack too - the original one is now an unlockable. The screenshots aren't very promising. It looks like Sonic N all over again...

They only made the HUD smaller, and not all the graphics? What are they thinking?

Well, at least this means we will probably get the UFO at original size this time.

Depends, they might remove stuff for cartridge space, put it on a smaller cart and try to squeeze as much money as they can.

Yay. An even crappier port then I imagined.

It's not the first time Sonic 1 got Spin Dash. This one just post-dates the year 2000, so it CAN'T BE GOOD :P

I bet we could do a better job than Sega at porting Sonic 1 to gba.

Oh wait a minute, we already beat them. :P

So the "original mode" doesn't have the original music? How wierd. =\

By the way, don't those waterfalls look a bit more "basic" than usual?

Wait, you can unlock the original soundtrack? Then what the fuck are you listening too normally... Oh god they better not port the terrible sounds of the Shadow the Hedgehog soundtrack.

Everything looks wrong about this port... yet I'll be the first one in my town to buy it. WTF is wrong with me?

Also, what is up with Sega of America constantly reusing Sonic 2 sprites for there crappy effects? Sonic central, the background of there Sonic Genesis picture, that Green Hill Zone mini game, just stop it dammit.

No joke, you better go sell your game to Sega. Your doing a far better job then they ever will with this port.

Ok... what is up with this... I can think of far better ways they could port Sonic 1 to GBA... Since the GBA is 32 bits and the Genesis was only 16, Sega could do far more with the palettes and graphics... instead of just re-using the same old sonic 1 graphics, they could perhaps make better Sonic Advance style graphics for the game... and instead of having a new soundrack... which will just be awful... they could just beef up the original soundtrack... and as far as the spindash goes... thas nothing new a million hackers have ported it to Sonic 1... and SEGA already used it in Sonic Jam, why doesn't sega do something creative... and remix the game a little bit so you can play as Tails and Knuckles or perhaps even Shadow... and oh yeah... ADD SUPER SONIC... now that would be a kickass port... better graphics, better music, and new unlockable characters

Yes, but that's the genius of it. It is a cheesy little port and you know why people will buy it? Because it is Sonic, and more importantly, it is classic Sonic, which means oldies and new fans to Sonic will buy it. Even if the game ends up being terrible, who cares? By the time you beat it and wish to return it because you were saddly dissapointed, Sega has already made there profit and they are perfectly happy. It's sad though. Sonic 1 has been re-released so many times, you think that they do more for Sonic's 15th annaversary than add a save feature (for a game that takes only about an hour to beat to begin with) and spin dash (something that has already been implemented in Sonic 1 countless numbers of times). Although all which you said I wish was true.

You know I honestly think those screens Sega released are just mockups. They look so bad. The hud is scrunched up and crappy and none of the palletes are right. Plus Sonic is oddly located in a couple of those pics.

EDIT: Even more reason to believe that these pics are mock ups. In the SYZ pic, Sonic's time is like 1:32... at the beginning of the level, also, multiple pics have a score of something that ends in 4 (like say 45634 just to make something up) How can you get just 1 point from something in Sonic 1 (or 4, but ya it is basically impossible to get a point value of something less than 10)

You should be glad they're not changing much. They'd screw it up and classic fans would be pissed.

edit: Weelllll, remixes should probably be considered "changing much." I'm a little worried about that, but the remixes in Gems Collection were pretty good IMO. So I'm not sure how worried I should be.

edit2: Honestly, I think that this type of project would have been nicer on the playstation portable (SAME type of project, port+features rather than emulator.), and with the success we're seeing from 2.5d remakes we're seeing from Capcom, it could very well be possible other companies will immitate it in the near future.
