Congratulations on a blinding first release! I like a lot of what you've done with this hack, and I want to single out your graphical design for particular praise. When first viewing the Youtube video I actually asked #retro to confirm which hardware was being used, as the shading honestly made me think you might be doing a 32X-based hack. That's some really accomplished work.

Level design generally works and in a way reminds me of Sonic CD, and you've set up some pretty clever hazards. It could use some streamlining though. As Shad said, the floating platforms can have a messy look, and while I understand their function in promoting speed (due to the spikes beneath) there's some really odd-looking sections in this demo. The boss was a lot of fun, the addition of ball-dropping shenanigans makes it a good stylistic variant on the S1 8-bit GHZ boss.

While I've put forth some criticism, it's intended in a constructive manner and it shouldn't detract from your accomplishments - I ended up compiling Gens/GS from source (which was no smooth ride) just so I could play your hack. Once again, well done on a thoroughly stunning initial release.

Um, random question, how much trouble did you all have with the boss? Because I could get past it in the first try o_O (albeit collecting the spilling ring all the time, but hey, that isn't cheating =P).

actually to be honest, it was only the positioning of the boss (I.e. locking screen at correct position, loading correct resize functions etc) appart from that, it was pretty easy.

Edit: Unless you mean playing the damn thing, then yeah it was hard

I lost two lives to it, both times my rings falling beyond the screenlock so I couldn't grab them.

I can do it without any rings now though. :P

Hm. Best new hack I've seen so far in 2009. (Not that I've seen many new hacks in 2009.) This new character is pretty interesting (and pretty hard for someone used to hitting A in most Sonic game (Megamix uses B using its standard controls) and C in all other Genesis games to jump); I haven't found much use for the boomerang, though I had to do a quick play. Maybe when I have more time I'll get used to the controls.

This hack is the best hack I have ever played! So far :P.

Too bad that when you reset, you have to beat EIZ again to get the level select, are you planning to add a save feature?

Tweaker introduced me to this a couple of days ago. Actually, he drowned me in his drool. We each asked the other "four months? What the fuck has Megamix been doing?!"

Seriously, for four months' work you've done an amazing job. I've yet to play the entire thing because I've the attention span of a dizzy-on-lemonade two year-old, But I like what I've seen so far.

Two problems, though. First, the sounds used for spindash and peelout make me very sad indeed. Glad that you're not just using one of the official games' revving sounds, but yours doesn't sit right with me. Second, you seem to've overdosed the hack on robots. It's not going to be fun when you can't get up a decent pace because every few pixels you're attacking/being attacked.

    Keep it up!~

I really can't wait to check this thing out, just need to get my fresh version of Windows XP x64 before I can test it though. Looks truly awesome!

I decided to go out on a limb and test this in Genesis Plus for the Wii (newest one by eke-eke)...

It works fine, except for the sound test, which crashes upon choosing another song to play.

I don't know why your so surprised as to how it can be done in 4 months, I mean a team such as Sonic Team created all the drivers in 1 year, and taking in mind that the drivers are already there and work fine, I'm using them drivers and not really generating my own so it saves a lot of time, hence this work can be done in four months (provided you have no interruptions), "I don't have a life".
the SFX, I wanted something different and it did sound a bit odd to begin with, but it'll grow on you, I'll consider changing it in the future, and as for the objects place very frequently causing annoyance, yeah that does get on my nerves half the time, but I'm not an expert at object positioning.

When placing objects, you wanna be able to see it coming. Just play any of the genesis games and you'll see that you never really run blindly into something. Thats what trial and error is for, though. Considering the work rate around here, most people are notably impressed by your timetable and with more time put into it, I'm sure you'll start to see what clicks and what doesn't.

This is failry interesting, but it does not work on real HW at all... black screen from beginning just like S-Factor had, until I fixed it :psyduck:

I'm not fond of the cheap hits everywhere though :P

now that you mension it most games do and I guess I never paid attention to this when playing, thanks for the advice, I'll be sure to remember this for future use.

that would probably be the Sega screen that has caused it to blank, I must have made a mistake somewhere (quite possible moving code to or from odd locations) I'll have to look into it, thanks for trying it out on HW
