Sonic 1 and 2 getting the Sonic CD treatment by Taxman and Stealth

We also added the ability to go back to previous levels on a completed save, so look forward to that when iOS updates (Android already has it, lucky ducks!).

These special stages sure are smooth and silky now, but I'm not lying when I say that these ones in particular have always been my most hated thing in these core classic games.

At least the gems save prior to level completion, so thanks for that.

So I'm seeing some odd debug objects throughout the game (green grounder (AoStH?), odd CPZ stuff) that I don't remember ever seeing before. Is this new beta stuff? Or just made for the remake?

Also same level select code as S1, and same old S2 codes work.

Edit: Ha, you can use debug mode during the end, but can't move.

 

A note. It doesn't seem to work with a controller on BlueStacks, so that option is out the window for a while.

Green Grounder is sort of just for fun; some people will understand, some might not :P
The other strange objects come from more deeply-buried prototype content that isn't as commonly-known, but you can still see bits and pieces on Retro's wiki

 

So, I'm already seeing a strange issue relating to score: Complete a Special Stage and the score bonus counts up in increments of single digits, not in amounts of 100 like it's supposed to. So if I finish a Special Stage with 137 rings, I'll have 137 points added to my score, which looks weird. I've never seen single digit points in a Sonic game. Android version, by the way.

EDIT: You also can't run through the gap in the bombs at the end of Special Stage 3, costing me the emerald. I wasn't expecting that.

I FUCKING KNEW IT.

I've been avoiding these spoiler tags since I really wanted to come across Hidden Palace on my own. When I got to Mystic Cave I thought to myself, ya know, I bet they put the entrance where that infamous spike pit was.

Imagine the smile on my face when I found out. Bravo, folks.

With Sonic and Tails, Up and jump makes Tails fly on command and then you can grab on and control Tails carrying Sonic ala Sonic 3, but with custom sprites. :D

The special stages are quite slow on my phone, with a little bit of pop up even, but that because I'm on a Galaxy Ace II.

It's available in the UK iTunes Store now if anyone wants to know. Just bought it and downloaded it. Can't play it now as I'm in work, had a quick look and I like it though! Shame the EU boxart is so terrible.

Are you running the Android version? You need to sign in to the Google Play services (press the red G+ button if it still says "Unable to Connect").

 

I think I am signed in-- I see my name, and I've been choosing the option for Google Play to find me an opponent. Nothing happens on that screen but I see my user name. And then quickmatch just hangs to black screen. Maybe it's because no one is playing online yet :v:/>/>

And this isn't intended to tell you this directly, but I didn't want to doublepost-- ran into an interesting bug (or maybe this happened in the original, I don't know) I was Super Sonic in Casino Night Zone and went into the slot machine. Got all Robotnik's (darn!) and drained my rings to zero. I remained Super Sonic and then there's a blank spot (not even a 0) where my ring count should be. Collecting rings doesn't add anything to the blank spot.

EDIT: Just keeps getting weirder. I stayed as Super Sonic for a while, and right after I won rings after all Tails, I transitioned back to normal Sonic, 0 ring count, and Super Sonic music is still playing
