Sonic 1 and 2 getting the Sonic CD treatment by Taxman and Stealth

I understand this point, but I can also understand people's concern. If this gets console/PC releases that are as well supported as the console/PC releases of Sonic CD, then by the time problems are discovered it might be too late to do anything about them.

On the other hand, maybe preventing this scenario is why only mobile versions have been announced so far; iOS and Android are relatively cheap and easy to push new versions to, while other consoles are significantly less so. If they've decided to use mobile as a sort of semi-beta, I certainly can't blame them.

 

Device specific or not, I think we can all agree that the existing versions are cheap and lazy, and the upcoming versions by Stealth and Taxman will be way better.

 

Oh yeah, definitely, but cheap is good, I like cheap. For the difference of having a few sound effects be a tiny bit tinny, then having Sonic 1 on-the-go for like 69p is just fucking awesome.

Having an even better remake for a few extra quid is great too.

 

So... Sorry to bump like that, but is there any news? Any release date?

No, just iOS/android release dates are rarely concrete

 

Past experience shows that SEGA just say "oh hey this game exists, you can download it at midnight". IIRC, SEGA haven't even formally announced it like they usually do.

 

So I guess a May release is going to be what happens, then ? Ah well, I can wait.

Out of curiosity, did you (Taxman & Stealth) approach Sega with the idea of this port, or did they ask you after seeing what you did with Sonic CD?

+ - And is a Retro Engine Sonic 5 a possibility? :P

When has Sega ever announced a release date less than a week before it comes out?

Wasn't Sonic CD Android basically "hey it's out tonight k bye"? It's been a while, I forget how much forewarning we got.

 

Sonic Jump and Sonic Dash. Possibly CD. It's an IOS/Android thing.

 

But iOS games almost always are released late Wednesday nights, at least in EST. So, the last Wednesday in April has passed.

 

What you say is nothing more than a coincidence. After the review process is complete (it usually takes a week for review, but I've had a release approved in 2 days once) it will go out the next morning unless a specific release time has been set. As far as I know, the scheduled time can be whatever they want, but I've never used that feature before.

Based on the fact that they usually announce these games a day or two before they go live, I'm assuming they probably announce them right after they've been approved then release soon thereafter. They might even just stick to the default schedule and announce as soon as it's approved because it'll go out the next day anyway. If it's going to be released in April, they would have had to have submitted already.

 

Dash came out on a Thursday though. Who knows, it may pop up tonight or tomorrow.

 

I think it should be noted that it was Android Police (possibly misinterpreting/misquoting an overzealous rep at GDC making guesses) that said "April", not SEGA proper. The only proper statement from Sega other than putting a demo on display at the convention was the flier that was handed out, which just says "Spring 2013"

I can't give any new information, but that much is readily available. Any developing frustration toward SEGA, Taxman, and myself regarding impending and/or "missed" "release dates" is seriously misdirected, but the notion that anyone is that excited about it is pretty awesome :P
